Are they traded every year though? This year it was Jackson and he’s a gun going home.

I remember when we were going for Preust 2 years running and didn’t choose us. Unless it’s a returning SA boy, we are always going to face competition if they are decent and we still have to overcome Port
Collingwood traded their ruckman to Melbourne this year ...

Plus Meek?

This while downplaying of rucks I find really amusing. It’s the one position on the ground that’s solo usually and hence it gets highlighted.

Teams win a flag with an ok ruck, see not important.
Teams win a flag with a gun ruck, yeah but did you see the rest of the team, see not important.

Teams win flags with an average forward, defender or mid and yet no one ever says not to use draft capital on them.

I just don't see the importance of investing in Ruckman.

For me there is very little correlation between premiership success and elite ruckman - whereas key forwards and midfielders there is.

Also - there is very little correlation between top ruckmen in the league and their draft position. Majority of quality ruckmen come from rookie lists and poaching from other squads.

Keep the first 3 rounds of the draft to anything but ruckmen and just add prospects in the rookie draft. If that doesn't work out - do what Richmond did at the end of 2016 and trade pick 46 for an ok ruck.

Club continues to think it's standing up next to Sydney as a model of excellence and ruthless efficiency, when at every single opportunity it is plainly demonstrated that we are nowhere near them
I really dont get why people hold up Sydney as some example of excellence...I mean in 100 years the Swans have won three premierships right (and one of those was in 1933)? I would have thought if we want to model ourselves on "excellence" then really we should be looking at Hawthorn, Geelong...clubs that actually win things...not a team that claims this amazing culture, but when push comes to shove consistently falls short (1996, 2014, 2016, 2022...so basically 4 out of their last 6 GFs)?

I am not saying we have to use a high pick on a ruckman, I’m saying we should have a developing ruckman on our list. Our current ruckman was a rookie.

Now that Melbourne drafted Verrall, it’s only Collingwood and us without a ruckman under 25 and one of 4 clubs without an under 22 ruckman.

But hey, we are a highly successful club consistently making good decisions, maybe we will start a trend.
