I'd like to see a study of how many recently drafted "tall mids" actually work out.

I feel like there's the obvious exceptions like Cripps and Bont, but in general the success rate for 6'4" or above mids isn't all that high.
Erasmus and Goater the two I’m interested in, RCD always something missing imo.

Some don’t get it , some don’t want to get it and some are unable to.
Volbeat called this months ago and our draft haul confirms it.
They see him as a forward long term but to get him in the game until he’s ready for that full time, he will be playing more ruck. That has nothing to do with our draft haul. Unless you think this has been the strategy since 2014

I believe we drafted Riley as best talent available at time with maybe a little SA bias and now see him as best serving the team in the middle as a “modern ruck” being more mobile, skilled and clean below their knees and changing forward.
Our forward line is just fine imo with Welsh hopefully the next one to be developed .
Fair call on draft haul being indicative .

Why did we want Barnett if we see TT as a ruckman?

I hope TT ends up a dominant key fwd but his strengths seem to more along the lines of ruck/midfielder at this point, and if he can be a good ruck and good midfielder at the same time then that’s rare and I’ll take it, even for a pick 2.

I’m telling you though that’s how the club sees him

Quality SA kid by all looks who apparently can play forward , ruck and kick goals , why not draft him .
Unless we create a spot via the LTI and draft a ready made ruckman we are running with Rob , Thilthorpe or Berg again , Tex muscling up forward with Strachan in the two’s and a possible Murray wild card. With that being the case I see Thilthorpe pushing his case over Berg and replace Rob with a more flexible player eventually.

Hi guys.
Respectful visitor.
Just wondering if you have any insight to why you didn’t take Isaac Keeler given he was in your NGA.
Apologies if other visiting and curious Sainters have already asked the question.

personally was surprised we didn't take him when we traded back into this draft and he was on the board still at 41

others have cited club was concerned by lack of competitiveness and physical aggression. perhaps just burned by mcasey in that regard?

1) Lack of physical aggression / competitiveness

2) We were only ever taking 2-3 players in the draft and we have far more pressing needs in the midfield and defence than up forward

3) He is not perceived by our club as having a future as an AFL ruckman - purely a forward who can chop out in the ruck

4) Ignoring all of the above, it’s possible that he just wasn’t in the top 50 odd on our overall talent order for the draft. The lack of nomination supports this.

Only time will tell if our recruiters got any of it right.

Yep, we seem to get Saint BFers asking this regularly ... can you quote huludicidal's post on your boards Keeler thread?

Many thanks for your feedback.

Port passed on him too when they could have taken him at #36 if they really rated him highly on their board.....They took a KPF/Ruck Tom Scully with their 2nd pick so they probably rated him higher.
