One thing he didn't touch on is that those guys were pretty much all playing in the AFL side from day dot. None of this leaving them in the two's for three years until they are ready mentality that we've traditionally embraced.

Like Rachelle?

There's a bunch of players who have gotten plenty of games in their first year.

Melbourne missed a couple, don't forget
pick 2 Hogan
Pick 4 Toumpas
Pick 9 Weideman

Same as Brisbane
pick 8 Mayes
pick 7 Aish
Pick 1 Schache

The equivalent of
Pick 15 Gallucci
Pick 9 Jones
Pick 16 McHenry
pick 6 McAsey

I agree with the timing though, should be 2026 when we get a shot at the GF, which is not that far away.

Melbourne was in the Prelim final 6 years after drafting Hogan, Toumpas and Viney.

So we should be six years after 2018 or 2019.
Melbourne drafted Hogang and Toumpas in 2012, that's why I started the review in 2013. That's when they really started to nail the draft and set up their premiership side.

Weiderman is the only high draft pick that they took that didn't play in the flag side. Every other first round pick was a success after 2013. Especially the 3 high picks they had in Petracca, Oliver and Jackson.

Just shows how important it is to nail the high picks you get while you are down near the bottom of the ladder, before you start rising back up.

Well this analysis of yours actually gives me some comfort. Time will tell but I think we have nailed TT and Rachelle, and need to nail this year too. And we have picked the tall before the stalls which mean they should peak at similar times (Jackson’s peak is still to come but Oliver and Trac are there)z

I might be a bad judge but Phillipou is firming as our likely target....don't discount the late December birthday as a big factor. Mattaes will still be 17 when drafted.
Yep I reckon he might be most likely for our 1st pick now

I’m glad Essendon is in good form as I fear they would have taken him before us , he’s exactly what they need just as we do

Still keen to see Tsatas when he comes back from injury given his traits also suit us

Hewett’s best is good enough but just too many questions on his consistency and preparation . Jye Clarke is very consistent and v good but maybe not game breaking enough , still I wouldn’t be too disappointed with him at all

Wardlaw and Sheezel would also be difficult to pass up but think they will be gone by our pick as the next 2 after Ashcroft

It pissed down with rain prior to and during the 1st quarter in that game, the weather was absolutely putrid until it cleared up somewhat after the 1st quarter but still rained off and on after that.

Anyone that wants to watch the replay...

Here : 2022 NAB AFL National Championships - U18
Phillipou's first quarter was outrageously good there. Hard not to be excited based on that, seems like an excellent prospect, especially given that he's one of the younger players out there. I think about 4 players on the park younger than him.

Speaking of younger players, Nick Watson also looks extremely good for next year.

Give pedlar time. Has not been able to get his body right. Look at curnow at carlton. Injured for what seemed like forever but once finally fit..super player. Pedlar once AFL fit and with a sound body offers a point of difference to our midfield.

Hoping that this off season can be a big one for pedlar under burgess' guidance and the medical team

Not quite correct. We had Dangerfield until 2015. He was B&F at Geelong 2016. We used the pick we got from Geelong on Milera
Incorrect.
Patrick Dangerfield played for the Adelaide Crows in 2016.

Played his guts out to the very end including being our best player in a losing team. Can't remember which final it was but he displayed enough to me that day to send him home with my blessing.

Much respect. Has off field class. (Wasn't bad on field either)

Yep.

Phillipou's highlights against Vic Metro. Looks like he had a blinder of a 1st quarter

He looks great, left footer, tall, prolific ball winner, goal kicker, might have missed a couple of targets in the wet but was looking for targets rather than the big kick to packs.

Just what we need.

And as Mutineer points out, no go home ever factor, big deal for a top draft pick

Try Jhye Clark
Right, too many Clarks!

I'm not a real U18 follower until draft time. Big draft year for us, need to get it right and get more picks

Go Home is a factor, particularly when you're struggling on field. Locals don't play the homesick card as youngsters or the go home to start a family as mature players and you don't have to pay them over the odds for them to not go home. Go local

The age thing could only be a positive.

Hopefully he can be that genuine impact midfielder.

Ollie Holland's is the player I'd love to have another 1st round pick for, more outside than inside currently but has gone alright inside at NAB League level for the Murray Bushies. Great runner and link up player with good composure and skills.

Not talked up amongst the top end mids but can't see him getting through to our 2nd pick.

It will be a very interesting time at season's end with so many still uncontacted for 2023 with list spots getting tight.

I think Hinge gets another gig and Newchurch also but they're the only two I think are safe unless we trade out a couple of players?

Dream draft haul would be Phillipou Hollands and Michaelanney

Would address the class and height in midfield and running ability on outside with hollands being able to play inside / outside and Michaelanny is going to be a v versatile defender - has good closing speed , smarts and decision making

Highlights don't show his work ethic, belief and mindset. As good as anybody's.

Make no mistake, the Crows are all over him as they should be
Make no mistake, we wont tolerate that crap at the AFC, we will make to remove that our of his game if he is to have a future at our Club.

In all seriousness, sounds like an excellent potential player for our Club. Lets hope it pans out.

So Blighty has run the numbers and believes the AFC is equally entitled to a priority pick.

AFC should make plenty of noise and make it very difficult for the V/AFL to play favourites
If the Crows dumped Tex, like North got rid of Brown, we would probably be on par with them if not below them.

North reap what they sow. If however they get that PP, we definitely should be entitled to one as well.

The dream is we push for this, AFL decline it but throw us a crumb of being able to match NGA bids anywhere and we land Keeler.

You're dreaming again.

There is talk the NGA priority clubs have will be looked at but no way it will be changed just to suit us this close to the Draft.
