I still think we need a KPP somewhere in the main and/or rookie draft, preferably a ruck or a KPF, but I'm not so sure it should come with a first or second rounder, particularly with guys like Lemmey, Scully, Broadbent etc falling down boards in a big way

I'd take Barnett if we traded our 2023 2nd into this year and took two second-round picks into the draft, but right now I'd probably be more willing to take a punt on a Will Verrall or a Phoenix Foster late/rookie
I think rather than using high end/mid draft picks for Talls I think there are some going to be available late/rookie that should be in our thinking if we move on the uncontracted Borlase, Frampton and possibly Himmelberg.

Aaron Cadman KPF, Matt Jefferson KPF, Jed Busslinger KPD all likely to go quite early in the 1st round, Isaac Keeler KPF/Ruck I think also every chance to go 1st round. Lewis Hayes KPD could even slip into 1st round consideration if not already there.

I think to consider any of Harry Lemmey KPF, Tom Scully KPF or even Harry Barnett Ruck/KPP and be comfortable for us my preference would be be mid/late/rookie draft at this point. Barnett outside of Keeler now shaping as the first talls taken from SA.

Some worthy of consideration late/rookie IMO where they would be low risk big reward.

Will Verrall - Athletic, mobile Ruck that plays like a mid when the ball hits the deck....has also shown potential up forward. Late starter to the season with groin issues during the preseason that is really starting to get up to full rat power now, 1st game at the Champs against WA and IMO was the best performing SA ruckman in the game and slotted 2 goals when resting forward.

Jed Rule - KPD - Mobile tall, excellent interceptor, dual sided, strong overhead and a definite improver this season. Currently on the Hawks VFL list while suiting up for the Oakleigh Chargers so obviously like a lot of their previous draftees they're looking at him via the VFL perhaps with a view to picking him up cheaply.

Phoenix Foster - KPF - Shown enough for Norwood U18's and at the Champs to suggest he's a chance at an AFL spot, mobile, strong overhead and a reliable set shot goal kicker, capable of chopping out in ruck once he beefs up.

Brodie Tick - KPP/Swingman - Flown under the radar a bit IMO, very solid tallish KPP that has played well at both ends in very poor performing Central Districts U18's and Reserves teams. Played forward with good results at U18's and performed equally as well in defence once upgraded to reserves in the 2nd half of the season. Particularly strong overhead and a contested marking beast at both levels. IMO not given the oportunity he deserved at the Nationals.

Toby Murray - Ruck/KPF - Brother of Nick, mobile Ruck/KPF with good mobility, strong overhead, another real improver in his overage year (November birthday) so still 18, bit of the Jordan Butts about Toby in that regard.

James Van Ess - KPD - Plays more like Daniel Talia than Jake Lever, a very solid defender that can really blanket Forwards, strong overhead and reliable by foot.

I’ll disagree on this

Michaelanney will be a v nice player , he’s prob the only defender that has been able to keep Sheezel quiet

I reckon clubs will bid end of 2nd round
So about the same draft range as Worrell then, who we’ve not been able to integrate into the AFL side despite being one of our most consistent SANFL performers? This really frustrates me, and I think Worrell’s current predicament is the main thing that reduces my excitement levels on a player like Michalanney. I do accept that Max is likely to be better defensively than Worrell though when it’s all said and done.

I genuinely hope Michalanney has a great career for us, but I feel like we need mids and genuine KPPs far more than another “3rd tall”.

Having said that, maybe once Smith is put out to pasture and if we finally move Dawson up the ground (and who knows if Hinge is part of the long term planning) we can start to bring the likes of Worrell and Max into the side.

I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised

He will end up being someone you can play on the hot hand in the oppo and they might be a 190cm tall or a nippy small

He’s got a good deal of speed , looking forward to him hitting the weights room

Will likely cost us some late picks that we wouldn’t use anyway

Can see us taking 2 then matching Michaelanney to make it 3

Spot on Jeff .....Michaelanney is going to pleasantly surprise a lot of Crows supporters

Apart from the attributes you've outlined, he has a very good footy brain .....

Would be happy to get him around pick 35 and beyond

FWIW - I can see us taking four players possibly, too

We should be taking a minimum of 5 players at the draft. We're in a rebuild and there's lots of deadwood to get rid of
Yeah I’m going to say maybe 3 and a trade then really load up next year , don’t love this draft

The funny thing is we’ve taken alot of smalls but we prob need more as the ones we have are no good

Hoping we delist Rowe given he’s OOC , then the other underperformed when their contracts end eg Murphy

Jones and McHenry shouldn’t be safe either when their contracts end if they don’t improve . exactly what blighty said re improving by 50 games

Scully and Lemmey will both be there at our 2nd pick

Risky taking either there IMO
Lemmy looks a bust .....hard to see him, even in the 2nd round

Touted as a top 10 at the beginning of the year .....hence why you ignore early season commentary on junior players .....once the Nationals start, is what counts

If we look to take four picks into this draft, right now I’d go something like this, if possible

1st round: Phillipou - tall mid with class and athleticism, potential game breaker
2nd round: Darcy Jones - small mid/forward with a ton of X Factor, agility, speed from congestion and skills are top notch (only 175cm though which mightn’t be pleasing to some)
Bid: Michalanney
Late pick: Phoenix Foster - tall forward that can pinch hit in ruck, good length, can pluck a mark and is relatively athletic

Seems like a good balance of players

There is, but we also need to be targeting a couple of good middle age players to fill gaps that are currently being filled by plonkers. Use a high first rounder and get your hands on a late first to trade for a player. What we did with Dawson last year needs to keep happening.

Small forward is first up. Midfield would be nice if we can actually attract anyone. If the right mid comes up use a high first rounder even.

What 1st round-worthy small forwards would be available for us, assuming Rankine re-signs?

Pickett next year, maybe?

Sorry to all this a bit off the track.

I’ve seen before you have a good read on St Peters. I was told they have a lad there, a boarder, who made Under 15 schools state team, but is yet to be picked up by any SANFL side? Not zoned because from Victoria.

Any info you know of and can share?

Thank you

Jack Hayter I think

Was at Brighton Grammar

Whatever happened to that Fejo Jr bloke that appeared in a lot of phantoms last year?
Trained with the Bombers in the preseason hoping to get a rookie spot after informing West he wouldn't be suiting up for them on 2022. Obviously didn't get a spot at the Bombers. Not sure if he headed back to Darwin or not.

We could be trading Doedee. Who knows..

For those who might be interested I've created a thread over at the Draft hub which allows BF draft fans to participate in creating a 'crowdsourced player power ranking'. You can read about it on that thread or go straight to the survey site here to cast your own votes towards a crowdsourced ranking.
Hope plenty of Crows fans can join in.

More likely to choose cricket I think.

Still at school and already terrifying District bats with thunder bolts
So was Harry Lemmey but he chose Footy.

The way this season has gone for him maybe the wrong option.
