I saw this format on the West Coast board and thought it might help understand our current list position

I think we have to trade one of Laird, Crouch or Keays at a minimum, either the end of this year or next.

Personally, I'd hope GCS take Keays for Rankine.

The team is just out of balance with those three. Can't play them all and expect to improve.
Laird could go back, but he'd be taking a spot of one of our better younger players. And we should remember he got moved from the backline partly because his kicking was hurting us.

Elijah Hollands signed an extension until 2024 too. Sort of slipped under the radar

I want someone to do a short 10-15 second clip of the opening centre bounce of the last quarter of that game against Brissy the other day.. just to show how much of a ”slam it on the boot”, “kick in hope to no one in particular as long as it goes forward” panic merchant Rory Laird is.. he does what he did at that centre bounce more often than he doesnt and even when he doesnt have any real pressure on him..

I‘d make a clip of it myself.. but I’m fu**n clueless on how you do it..

If the source is on youtube or similar, then you can just google "youtube to gif" or "youtube to video" or something.

Plenty of online sites you can do it with in a few clicks.

Crouch is only on a 2 year deal, if he could get a long-term deal elsewhere I'm sure we'd be fine to organize a trade to make it happen.

I think Crouch is a better player than Keays though.

Laird can go back to half back when he returns… swap him with Jones.. get jones back into the middle.

Keays can go to the sanfl and find some form.

Mcrouch was pretty good on the weekend if I’m honest… he was the pick of the bunch out of Sloane, laird, keays and schoey.. with schoey being a close second..

I think sloane and crouch with Schoey and a mix of dawson and our youth is what we need to look at for R1 for our CB’s/midfield..

If Clarkson goes to the Suns theres no chance the suns would trade rankine for keays.. but they may lose Rankine regardless if Rankine wants out..

Keays would never get anywhere near given a game in a side coached by Clarkson..

I think Crouch is a better player than Keays though.

Keays is slightly more adaptable though and could be a guy you have working across half-forward. Crouch is a 1 dimensional mid (he's really good at that dimension albeit), so you have to decide if you want a guy who literally has to spend his entire TOG in the midfield VS having a bit more flexability.

McHenry and Cook are better half forward prospects than Keays given they can actually kick.
I'd rather a one dimensional mid who can pass by foot, than one who can't.

Crouch will be restricted FA again end of next? Won't get much for Keays unless he improves decision making and execution. He turned into what we needed at the time but even now if not for Sloane's age, he'd be the first we'd move out of the midfield if we acquired an A grader.

And that he is so damn erratic.

Imagine being a team mate of Ben’s downfield.. you’d have absolutely no clue whatsoever what he’s about to do!.. he might run around in a circle then wildly handball it off, he might jam it straight on the boot to anywhere and, often, nowhere. He might go for goal, he might kick out of bounds!..

He’s a liability.

His best traits are he gives his all.. never stops trying.. is cleary a great team mate.. sets the standard for effort.

But if he’s still in the side in two years from now.. its not gonna be good.

Anyone that watches him without rose coloured “Benny” glasses on can clearly see it.

They need to rotate more. There should never be Crouch, Laird, Keays as the starting 3. two of them at most.

I can tell you what I wouldn’t do. Bloke has a great year in the middle last year and from what I saw he played half forward on Saturday.

That seemed pointless to me - put him back in the middle and move out someone like Sloane. Or now it will be Laird I suppose.

It's pre season. Lots of players are rusty, see the rest of our midfield and wingers.

His disposal by foot isn't fantastic at the best of times I understand that, but I back him to hit targets more often than not and perform a valuable role in our team.

If he is still playing like this in a month I'll be worried. I think he is just out of form.

That was the talk around Henley beach cafe a few weeks ago, but didn't believe it.
