Watching the replay on Fox.

Cannot for the life of me workout why Charlie would go for a left foot around the corner set shot, from a slight angle 15 metres out.

Very odd.
Brain fade.
Speaking of weird moments, how was that odd kick by Jack Silvagni after he intercepted handball by Bumbers in the middle of ground. Instead of handballing to man running past him, he decides some weird arse little dribble kick I never seen before and it worked..lol.. As BT said, he could of handballed it.

Realised last night more so of just how important Bam Bam is to our overall structure, just go look at how often he’s in the upper brackets of marks taken for the game.

Been brilliant this season.

Only games we have lost have been when he was well below his best/not right v GC and when he didn’t play v Freo and pies.

Man, feels good on a Saturday lunch to see that lot locked into the cellar doomed to cellar dwelling on ladder at 2-10 now and us well entrenched up opposite end of ladder on 9-3 with aiming to finish top four.

Time to check out the reserve match I guess. Hopefully we fixing them there too.

Sam Docherty gives me massive Peter Dean vibes. Tough, uncompromising and skilful. What do you guys, gals and others think of that comparison?
Similar in those traits perhaps, but very different players. Dean played taller than he was, often playing KPD, though better suited as a 3rd tall. Better comparison for him would be someone like Grimes. Super reliable player, rarely beaten. Would love a Peter Dean around now.

Doc's 2022 has been nothing short of astounding. To come back from what he's been through over the past few years, and not just perform, but book himself an AA slot is just remarkable.

I am labelled a pessimist on here, but a Carlton Premiership is possible maybe not probable. That is a remarkable state given where we have come from. A fit Pittonet, Weitering and no more injuries is the minimum. We will not win a flag without Weiters and Pitto. Voss needs to be brave like Parkin in 82 and put Cerra or Walsh on a wing against a brayshaw type. I suspect Melbourne will pull it together with an MCG premiership a motivating cause. Don't put too much emphasis on 2 midseason losses and a media beat up concerning a resteraunt scuffle. Someone has to play the Dees on the last day in September, and Carlton are as likely as anyone. From there a premiership is possible.

The unlikely event of a Melbourne implosion on field would help our (and others) cause.

I ******* love it.

When one of the toughest to ever play the game looks you right in the eye and tells you the standards we live by aren't being met you lift and play harder more aggressive football.

We have needed this higher standard driven into this group type coaching for too long and if you don't perform you get it both barrel's .

About bloody time.

Yes legendary player who stepped into coaching too early. Now has the extra experience and knowledge and knows he has the playing group to go a long way.

Essendon should follow this example, and appoint Hird!

Just calling it as I saw it.

Shiel aside Essendon were a hot mess last night. Parish hampered, Merrett lacked impact, Ridley MIA.

We had leading lanes open in our forward lane that I've never seen before...the Essendon set up was as bad as anything I'd seen in our bad old days/decades.

But we ceded the centre, we weren't our slick selves from stoppages, and allowed the ball to bog down in Essendon territory for long periods. Granted, the weather played a small role.

I just think we should have been steaming to clobber any team...especially an old enemy...especially on their big night. We kind of settled.

Thrilled with the W, but I get why Vossy was less than impressed.

I do think the Carlton of rounds 1-5 would of let them back in to make it close last night, whereas we just shut the game down totally last night.

I do agree we need to start showing more of a killer instinct and burying sides. Still haven’t had a 10 goal win since 2014!

Bombers board oscillating between blind rage around the review and how shit they are and that we are no good and should have beaten them by 10 goals (e.g “they only kicked 2 pts in a quarter and a half against a side badly out of form”).

That’s the way I see it - All fit, I see Marchbank in for Young, McGovern in for Plowman - Talls are Weitering, Marchbank, McGovern. Smalls - Docherty, Saad - Mix of Newman, Williams, Stocker - Depth, Young, Plowman, Kemp.
Pittonet as first ruck, TDK as the resting weapon ruck. One of LOB or Newnes goes out for Cunners on the wing. Forward line of McKay, Curnow, JSOS, Martin, Durdin, Owies. Would like Honey to come in for one of the smalls - Provides that medium sized lead up forward (Owies probably goes out)
Depth soldiers across each line are the usual suspects

All good problems to have, but unlikely everyone will be available at once, same for all sides, doesn’t happen often.

The essentials we need for a flag tilt in September are:

Weiters
Pitt (be hard beating Melbourne with TDK v Gawn, and St K v Marshall/Ryder)
Cripps
Walsh
Harry
Charlie
At least 2 of Owies/Durdin/Motlop
At least 2 of Williams/Doch/Saad
At least 2 of Marchy/gov/young (unless Durdin shows he can play at a similar level)

I think Newnes is experienced and serviceable. I wouldn't mind him in finals at all. He is capable of some surprising glory goals too.

Same Newnes gets off the chain with better players around him. Puts pressure on, body on the line etc. Solid player, at worst he’s good depth we know can contribute.

how amusing when a team gets only half pumped and their sad supporters rally around insulting the victors as being utterly shit? please acknowledge the irony, you hallucinating imbeciles...........

More love for Jack Martin.
He is the Phantom
You think he is not there

AND THEN

1) The tackle that lead to Fisher's goal
2) The tap over the top and Another score.
3) Hits Owies in the chest for his 2nd goal

Jack Martin is dynamic in score involvements

And his opening goal just to deflate them and their crowd a bit after all the pre game stuff.

Baffling that he wasn't picked for Collingwood as I think he was fit. Needed a guy like him in that game.

I reckon Owies deserves some credit for last nights game. One of his better games for the club, played with more confidence and zip I reckon

Has now added kicking goals from set shots 50m out to his arsenal, making him a much more dangerous player.

His goal from the boundary was top shelf too.

Might be hard with Weiters injury, but it’s conceivable we could have 3 AA defenders in Weiters, Saad and Doc

Do they also claim Dees and Lions also shit for only beating them by similar margins?

Shhhh…..If you wish it hard enough anything can happen.
We’ll be injury free coming into August.
I can feel it.

Vossy knew we should have beaten them by 10+ goals.

They were leaving huge patches of grass for us to kick to all game. Intensity was up and down, a lot of brainless footy resulting in over handballing and stuff like Cripps' ridiculous attempted left foot pass in the 3rd.

That bake was completely warranted.

He was almost our worst in the first half - fumbly, turned it over a couple of times. Had a really nice end to the game, and I guess that's all you can ask for, but I hope he's one we can replace eventually.
