Can Dow play Fisher's spot?
I think he can, and I think we should try it
Got to reward performance at that level, and punish poor performance in the ones
Fisher for Dow this week please
On our list I would only replace fish with phelp honey Carroll or a Martin ( three of those are injured) motlop can keep building till mid season if we have that luxury

While everyone was up and about at the end of the Hawthorn game, singing the song and celebrating, I was sitting there annoyed and slightly relieved.
We missed an opportunity to pounce and even though we won, I wasn't happy. I think I'm getting my footy vibe back. I like it. :p

Anyway, point is - Gold Coast @ home are a different proposition. We should win, but we will need to play better then the last 3 quarters we put together against Hawthorn. We are a good team, that feels good to say again, but we need to play 4 quarters and bring the pressure for the entire game.

Saad and Martin 100% come in
Id drop Plowman before Boyd
Fisher to sub
We possibly drop TDK to give Dow a go
Play Pittonet with jsos to chop out in the ruck

Watch from 1:35:00

Game on the line - 1 soft effort, 1 tackle, a non-attempt to go up for a mark, outmarked by a mid, out bodied in centre clearance leading to goal, sure I picked a few bad minutes but that’s when I tuned into the game and then left feeling deflated

I recognise he did a lot of good things during the match as well

I like what Dow brings as an inside mid who can explode from the pack and he also has the ability in the twos to get a few kicks

But …..

If you are an inside mid in the AFL we need you to compete unconditional, I think he will struggle to force current players out, sure the current players need to work on their disposal efficiency but Dow wasn’t getting 25-30 touches at 80%DE either when he played consistently last year

Yikes, that had to be the least dominant dominant quarter of footy I've seen. Wouldn't be rushing to promote anyone from that viewing at least, although Motlop looked good.

Special mention to Mirkov, had never seen a specialist ruckman opt to spectate a centre bounce before 😁

Hasn’t he failed trying that role for the last few years
round peg - square hole

Dow will get games - play him in the role he is suited, when a position is available

I would have thought the last 10 years would have thought us to stop playing midfielders as forwards and half back flankers as mid fielders

we are 3-0 ffs

next man up is the strategy
not get rid of guys playing a role and replace with someone who hasn’t trained/played for that role and hope

Agree. Voss has made it clear players arent competing for 22spots but for set roles. We look so much better from it too.

Feel free to ask me a direct question, I must have missed it. I feel like you've only made statements so far.

I am assuming you want me to comment on Williams having 6 more score involvements? Maybe he is playing higher up the ground compare to Newman?
The question was do you think it's possible that a reason that Williams and Newman are being rated differently it that Williams' possessions are much more likely to result in scores than Newman?

No, I was replying to a poster who was comparing Williams and Newman.

Different players, playing different roles.

Saad, Williams, Doc play attacking roles, Weits, OMac/Young Newman, deeper/last line defenders

Gov a bit each way, given his speed

It's why their stats will be vastly different

I think it’s not down to those two players . We absorbed the Hawks pressure and in the last hung on . Apart from a few cameos , us desperately holding on ( fatigue or composure or both ) and a few desperate footy acts . Weiters and Jsos .

Check out Williams' and Newman's heatmaps from yesterday

We need to get paddy Dow into the side, he has been knocking the door down for the last three games. I would hate to lose him to another club because of lack of opportunity.

What mid are you dropping for Dow?

Yep, doing that is what our old coaches used to do...just play the players they wanted and shuffle other players around.

Our coaches now actually have a system and particular roles in place. They aren't going to replace a forward with a defender, even if the defender is a slightly better player or in better form. It just doesn't work.

So nice to see clear roles and it's very clear which players are fighting for which spots in the team.

The only structural change I'd be open to is dropping TDK for Martin. TDK not offering much right now except his ability to relief ruck to a good standard, but JSOS is decent at it. Martin would offer way more offensively and defensively in the forward line. May help us with the issue we had of Hawthorn running the ball out of D50 with ease.

right now I would do a mid season trade with Dow for any of the following:
1) a Ruck/Forward who can take a grab and kick a goal
2) a key back, or
3) a lock down small/mid defender

I would love him to prove me wrong but I think right now we are filling roles in our side in 2 & 3 and he ain’t either of them and he ain’t done anything special the last 2 years in the inside mid role and the guys currently doing that job are currently the toast of the town
