Still can't get my head around, people wanting to make multiple changes this week

The 6 goal swing was more about a breakdown of structure and setup, not about 2, 3, 4 players being poor

Hawks will do well this year if their list stays healthy
Saad comes straight back in, and a horses for courses approach (my opinion would be 2nd ruck out for Jack) is a luxury but also necessary given we're probably a bit tall and it'll be a bit slippery up here on the Coast. The extra running player could be important.

Tactically….
Tactically they aren't extremely different to us in truth. They aim to win the clearance and contested ball and surge forward.

The key difference is we have 2, potentially 4, genuine marking targets inside 50 plus 2 or 3 buzzing small forwards around the ground so surging it in can be effective. The problem with the Suns is they only have Casboult and they've lose a small or 2, so they've had a hard time winning the ball in the air or on the ground inside 50. They've had 59 & 60 inside 50s the last 2 games so it's not as though they've been easy beats, they've been competitive in the middle and defensive thirds of the ground it's just the attacking third that isn't quite working for them. They've tried Lukosius back inside 50 but he's not a key target at this point in his career and we know what Casboult is, a solid target who will compete but is overall limited.

It's a shame King got injured, Casboult would've been the perfect foil for him and would've caused/eaten so many contests that would've freed up King, which was what he did for McKay. Hopefully Cas has another season in him and King can enjoy that freedom.

They're probably lacking depth overall in the middle but starting mids vs starting mids they're quite good. Witts, Rowell, Anderson & Miller are a very good starting combo with all players having a good mix of inside contested work & outside spread. After that though and that's where we should dominate, when the rotational mids come in our rotational mids should be overwhelming.

Their backline is quite sound but I don't think they'll be big enough for us. In truth with Curnow and McKay firing with Silvagni a more than capable 3rd tall there's not many in the league that will. Collins is a good solid defender but again the depth after him in terms of talls gets limited. After him it's mostly 3rd tall types playing big.

So in short their topline is quite good, but it falls away after that. The gap between the A class to the C graders is big, they're missing a solid level of B graders.

SUN.IN.EYES....!

Maybe....

Surely he's just got to find the opponent's body in that situation? If he didn't get 46 taps, I'd think be was afraid of being re-injured.

DeBoer did a number on Touk Miller.

Touk, say hello George!

Fiorini had 25 and he was their biggest disposal winner. He's an icing on the cake type, not a match turner.

Rowell only had it 18 times (he'd dreaming too much about wearing the navy blue).

GWS led by 30 before the end of Q1, and by 50 at the 12 minute mark of the last quarter.

They then went quiet and GC (Chol in particular with 3) kicked the last 4 goals to make it a 'respectable' 26 point margin.

It was a flogging.
Someone should swap jumpers with Rowell at the end of the game.

Lets be honest, he is a ruckman. Known for brain fades, fall over fresh air, lose concentration in half the time of all other players, could be discribed as a deer in headlights...

The ruckman, one of the worlds great mysteries!!

After watching both Doggies and Hawthorn games - more tempo football was required depriving opposition of possession instead of allowing the run and gun strategy to be used against the side. This required an ability to vary tempo not only in the last few minutes of a game but during a game as well. The second missing factor was the intercept role now with McGovern out- who does that? The intercept role is an important element of stopping the over the top and out direct entry strategy.

Vossy has to think this one through and maybe Parks is an option - especially if both TDK and Pittonet aren't 100%. I'm thinking McDonald is out. If McDonald is in - then maybe Young could play the third tall intercepting role.

Which bring me back to what was a 'controversial' statement I made last week - as soon as Honey/Cuningham and Marchbank are fit to play they will be in as starting players faster than you can say " we need leg speed and goal kicking HFF, and an intercepting defender "
If Omac comes back, let him and You g play lockdown and Weitering can intercept everything.

40mm in the proceeding 2 days isn't exactly going to be a quick track. Yes there might not be much more than a shower on Sunday but QLD loves a good old afternoon flash storm.

Desperately need Pitt to combat Witts.

Suspect we'll see even less from TDK on a soft track.
Depends what the drainage is like at Metricon. MCG (and Princes Park) for example drain like it never rained.

In: Saad, Martin
Out: Boyd, TDK or Pittonet

I say Saad is next man back

suggest we go with an addition runner in Martin and it’s either TDK or Pittnonet (if injured), Silvagni or Young can relief ruck - not likely but that’s what I prefer

Parks to be sub to provide some height down back if required

B: Plowman - Young - Newman
HB: Williams - Weitering - Docherty
C: Walsh - Cripps - Setterfield
HF: Silvagni - Curnow,C - Martin
F: Durdin- McKay - Owies

Foll: Pittonet, Cerra, Hewett

Int-b: Saad
Int-mid/f: Kennedy, LOB
Int-f: Fish

Sub: Parks

At a guess I think that 20 points of the your winning tipping score came from Carlton.

Those were the days. Would be nice to see another 20 win + finals season.
I've just penciled in beltings from saints & swans......

Could work if Saad/Williams/Docherty/Newnes can cover their smaller faster forwards. I think the intercept role will be of more importance against sides like Geelong and Melbourne who have talll marking options and who like going pretty direct through the middle as often as possible..

If anyone is a bit sore from the weekend could see Dow getting a guernsey. Not necessarily for the Fish. Speaking of which how many games now has he had the flick or hand pass leading to the game winning goal? At least 2.
He's been clutch. A rare quality that's been heavily overlooked. Whilst half the team shits itself with bad nerves and nonsense mistakes in the 4th quarter of these closer games fish has set up the winning goal twice.

most of Saturday's rain is forecast in the morning.

26 degrees both days of the weekend, bit of sun and wind and should be cherry ripe by Sunday!

Give the kid a break. He has played no more than 10 senior games of football. Have a look at his injury from last year, looked like a train wreck. Lucky to be every playing again. He has another 3 years (almost) on Carlton's list. He will develop strongly.

Just looked like he thought that he couldn't get there and thought that he would bluff their ruckman into tapping it straight to him. Didn't work but 46 hit outs suggest that he wasn't beaten too many times.

It sure was.

Smashed by the Swans & Saints.

Lost both games back to back - Rnds 8 & 9? :(
I swear that we left Waverley after the Saints game and there were some amongst us who couldn't see how we could win another game that year. We were abysmal. Might have not kicked a goal till pretty late in the game.

There were unconfirmed reports that the trip away fund had a massive influx of funds around this time;)
