Anyone calling for Owies to be dropped don’t forget he’s #1 in the league for tackles inside forward 50. Everyone raves about Durdins forward pressure but Owies is just as good. Both locks for the foreseeable future.

Could look at that stat from a different angle.

I don't mind Owies - he gives his all - but everything is in slow-motion and not in the good "Pendlebury" way. He's alright for now, but we need better, so hopefully Motlop/Honey come on sooner rather than later. We need more speed in our team.

I thought it was 'almost' game for Owies. He holds two overhead marks in (I think) the 2nd, dead in front, and he kicks that set shot from 40, he'd have had 3 goals, and we'd be talking about a break-out game. His defensive work is good, adding some pain on the scoreboard would secure his position.

Out: Martin, Boyd, Cottrell
In: Hewett, Plowman, Motlop

Although I really liked Boyd's game, Plowman has to play with the current state of our defence
This is the game to play Motlop IMO. If we went with Fog, who is probably the other Martin replacement, we would have too many playing that high half forward role, with Fish, Fog and Carroll.

Totally agree. His issue is can barely kick 40, so almost every kick isn’t just about accuracy it’s about distance. He’s inconsistent with accuracy and he doesn’t scare any defenders with his speed or evasiveness. His pressure is elite, and he seems to pop up in the right spots far more often than can be considered luck. He’s in my team for now but I do hope some of our more dynamic, better kickers can consistently bring enough pressure to push him out.

While I’m posting. Super happy for young. He’s really looking great back there atm. Proving me very wrong.

I still don’t get Boyd despite a better game this week. Agree with another poster that he could/should tried at wing as speed and kicking a strength. Still seems to be full panic mode under any pressure which is the opposite of stoker and the opposite of anyone I prefer in a backline. Very happy for him last night though. Much much better. If Voss can see it, then I trust it.

Anyone heading along to the game? Worthy of a day trip??
Yep. Taking my new wife along for her first game.

She knows we go for Carlton, she also knows we hate 'Collingwood' and 'Essendon'. Which is delightful as her father is an * supporter :tearsofjoy:

This is the type of game that determines whether we make the 8 I reckon. You can cop losing to top side but you have to keep beating these middle of the pack teams, particularly after losing to goldie.
This 100% they let one slide against GC. They just must win this one

This game against GWS will be a good guide to where we are at, both in terms of skills/team development but also mental. A game we should definitely win if we are a finals side that is challenging, as opposed to just making up the numbers.

Going off last week, I think Voss will value those that performed and back them in.

So I can see it being as simple as Martin for Hewett, with Cotts retained as super medi-sub three weeks in a row.

If he wants to give Cotts a full game, give Dow or Fog some reward.

Boyd played really well and I'd back in our back seven to get the job done. Be pretty stiff to come straight out but understand if they flick the switch back to Plow, who was playing well himself.

People rambling about this is the type of game we need to win...I mean we want to win them all right?

I read it too often. If we are playing a top team then the same thing is said, this is a must win game to show how far we've come etc, play a middle of the road team and it's a must win game to show we are better than them and finally play a bottom team it's a must win game to show we are not mentally weak? No matter who we play, of course we all hope we win but sometimes you just don't and that life. It ain't going to define us if we loose to GWS. We know we've got the talent, just gotta get games in playing the new system and we will only get better.

Real test given it's our third interstate trip in 6 weeks...and our only losses this year were also outside Melbourne.

Also, huge challenge for TDK & JSOS against Preuss & Flynn. They've done a great job since Pitto went down, but Preuss is in good form and is a big, physical ruckman like Jarrod Witts who smashed TDK. If TDK can put in a good showing, it shows he's improved quickly.
