That's what St K thought they could set up in Seaford.

Thinking players would be attracted to living life on the peninsula... unfortunately for us, the lifestyle on each side of the bay is very different.

The Mornington Peninsula ranges from mega pricey but desirable (Portsea/Sorrento/Mount Martha) to full of retirees (Safety Beach/Dromana) to full of single mums (Rosebud) to nothing but holiday houses & Air BNBs (Rye/Blairgowrie). Ignoring inland & the Western port side, its not really comparable to the lifestyle of the Surf Coast.

Having said that, I prefer the MP to the BP thanks to the quality of the golf courses & fewer Geelong supporters.

From memory I think McEvoy was one of the few who lived on the peninsula with the vast majority of our list preferring to stay bayside closer to Moorabbin (and the bright lights of the city).

We're currently in a mess no doubt... a really upsetting & frustrating place to be yet a %^&* gain...

But we're nowhere near needing to start again. Hugely important, key pieces are there but they're let down by blokes who sadly just aren't up to it.

We have the makings of a very good team but have some glaring weaknesses that can be fixed by astute drafting and recruiting.

Don't @ me about mistakes made in the past... the current list management team have done pretty well considering the draft hand we've had & who we've been able to get to Moorabbin from other clubs.

It's boring but IMO we don't have any alternative but to keep hitting the draft. Trading out for a bloke like Taranto would have made sense if we'd continued our trajectory at the BYE... but we haven't. I don't think he's the type to help make us more resilient when sh!t hits the fan.

Maybe make a gutsy call to move on mid age players for mid range picks. Who has value though?

That's why I want an external review. If we are better to step backwards in the short term it might be better than topping up if we aren't really close.

I'd get Noble into the role as director of footy or what ever he was at Brisbane. You'd probably never get access to a guy of his caliber if not for his coaching disaster. Perhaps he could do the list review even.

We don't seem to have the ability to identify where we are in the cycle ourselves and when you look at Carlton it took the Brian Cook appointment to stop the mess in the backroom and they instantly made huge strides.

This is an opportunity to really take a hard look at ourselves and make serious changes that will help set a course to a premiership.

Exactly, if you don't get a good trade back, you're simply making room.
Bringing in a heap of late draft picks probably won't help us much.
Even when we did that .... Parker, Hind etc, it didn't help us over the medium term.

Also takes about 5 years before draftees really hit top form unless you arse a 1 in 200ish quick developer. You want to make sure that you have really worked out a plan to make sure that that next tilt in 5 years is well set up or you keep on the cycle that we're in.

Also on guys like Parker who was let go because we had plenty of small forwards, only to delist a lot of them later so that he'd now be handy and moves like that show that list management is more than about keeping the contracts fiscally conservative.

I hope to god the saints look at a way to trade into the first round again for a later pick. Melbourne have done it two year in a row. Why not us ( no pun intended)
Take best mod available with our first and there are some really talented talls later in the draft that will help king in the long run

You have to have a plan for them rather than get them for the sake of getting them. You usually have to offer overs to move up so it may not be the right direction. Selling and trading picks hasn't really been out friend.

Lol contracts.

It really depends on what the convo is. If Jack wants a fresh start then the money wont be the issue, if the club sees the list space and a second rounder as fair compo then that wont be the issue either.

Im a bit non plussed about it, keep him or trade him but having a contract means nothing and i think it might be the best thing for both parties.

I'd hold, he either does a Seb Ross or he gets pushed out to depth at Sandringham on a very low wage.

If he went to Geelong it would be to better his footy and have the chance of playing in a champion team.

If he came to St Kilda It would be to continue to turn up when he chooses to without expectation of excellence and to get well paid.

So before you tell me I'm wrong, what contract do you think his manager is asking Geelong for, and what kind of contract do you think he's asking St Kilda for?

I apologise for promoting predatory behaviour and sexism but some men in nightclubs try to pick up the best looking girls and they will accept whatever they have to do to get them. Others prey on their slightly less thin/less attractive friend who will be grateful enough to do whatever they are asked.

I think we all know which of the girls in this example is St Kilda, and which girl types like DeGoey would select if he wasn't a star and didn't have an AFL player's body.

None of our players wants to leave St Kilda because they are all great buddies, it's cushier than most AFL teams and who knows you might even win some games?

We're a good time team.

Unfortunately they turned up the lights at the Bye. We were looking hot in a dark corner before that. He would have groped our boobies before then now he'd probably just punch us in his bathrobe.

Don't bitch me out, I know I'm a horrible person.

I would think around 500K at a guess

They were making out that we'd lowballed the **** out of him. Vanilla wage for vanilla performer seems fair. I still have a fantasy that one day it's all going to click for him. He seems like the type who needs clear instruction and a good side around him.

Not going to get that at St Kilda
Billings could easily be put on the market if he feels he wants out , If he is confronted competing for a spot against Milera , Hill or even Amon he might be better exploring other options.
Billings best position where he has shown his best football was as a half forward and even that spot he will have a battle on his hands with so many players competing for spots.

It would be nice to trade in a midfielder that can tackle & defend like Lenny. I’m over Jones and his weak as piss tackling. We are too easy to play through , and it does have a bit to do with the coaching , but when Windhager and Steele are the only mids that can stick one , you have problems.
Crouch has been doing his bit being ● Ranked 7th in Tackles Per Game
Crouch and Steele have done there best to counter midfields , we just don't have the mid who can break away and distribute the ball.
Gresham and Jones go missing for large portions of games and this is where they need that game changing mid.
Windhager , Owens need a couple years before they will show there best , Bytel is still a unknown.

We know...but we can still dream. It just makes some of us feel better.

I would say Billings is on around 500k a big reduction to what he was on and saying he will not leave for something better is not out of the question - a contract means nothing in today's world in the AFL , it just gives the player security if he gets a injury or just under performs.
Would North Melbourne want him , I would say they would if they are paying guys like Stephenson 700k and Polac 600k.
Even GWS and Gold Coast would like him at 500k so if Billings is struggling to keep in the 22 he could well head out the door to a team with not us much competition for spots.

A lot of teams would take his contract knowing they are getting a solid performer.

Bruce was a fine example of a guy breaking his contract to go after bigger coin and contract - and Bruce was no game changer.

Anyway if he is the worst on our list we are doing ok.

People wanting the coach gone , recruiters etc need to get real - The Melbourne coach was given years to get his s/it together and that was with way more top draft picks than most teams , Cameron at GWS was the same.
Our guy came in to the club with a list that was very average at best and he and the brains trust have gone about improving it.

Just our last draft gave us more talented youngsters than we have had for 10 years , add on King , Higgins , Coffield , Clark and the luckless Bytel.
With our core of our list not 27 yet - which gives them the time to be involved in the development of our youth and hopefully success.

Having Gubby as our deal maker he could be about to deliver his biggest haul during this trade period.
The team is ruthless in how it has culled the list and with players like Geary , Ryder , Hannerbery , Kent , Joyce , Campbell , Wood , Lienert next to go at the club with players getting reduced salaries - only Hill is on way overs and even he took a cut due to the Covid salary squeeze.

It is not out of the question that we pick up Brayshaw and DeGoey as free agents - what makes us a likely club is we don't have a overbearing coach and the potential in the list.

The future is bright but some on here jump on the bus when it's rolling and jump off quick when a problem occurs.
I wont mention names.

Problems can be fixed and with the management we have it will.

Didn't have any last trade period so opted for 4 at the Saints on lower money.

If anything less attractive now with a contract and form not significantly improved.
No takes when OOC, would cost more now so just as much interest as last year.

If you want to trade they have to have value, Gresham, Clark, DMAC, Marshall, Steele, Membrey, Wilkie, King, would be the best bets.
Not saying trade them but they have value.
Also Battle.
193 defender, which we have plenty of, and should get a 2nd rnd pick for him.

Pretty sure Billings signed a contract 4 year contract last year is at $350 PA after he was floated as a trade last year and no one took a bite.

The best part of our list demographic is that our 24-27yos have enough experience now that we can jettison the older players off without huge impacts.

Go back 10 years, we barely had a 24-27yo age bracket!

In my opinion, time to go:
Hannebery
Kent
Geary (gone)
Ryder
Kyle (gone)

Borderline, or keep some as depth:
Joyce
Wood
Campbell (I'd keep Campbell).

Should be freeing up about 6 players with no significant impact (apologies Ryder, great player but it's time). Our middle core can bear the load now
