Look mate I hope you're right I'd love to get a second rounder for Hill, I'm just reading the tea leaves and thinking we want him gone and I reckon it's a third rounder or worse and they cop the salary. Hopefully it's something better but if we switch him out for Amon on less money that's a gain for mine, the initial outlay is gone unfortunately.
I think you're right. Everything is pointing toward a junk pick.

Looks like we just want him gone.

Gee this is some real revisionist stuff.

Give me a bit of time and I'll show you some posts I wrote here when we were sitting 8-3 and I was shouting from the rooftops that we hadn't been tested by anyone decent yet.

Everyone at the time was banging on about how we had the '3rd best ranked defence in the comp' etc.
I was very vocal about how it was too early to judge whether we were any good or not- and our post-bye games would show where we are really at.

Nothing revisionist about having predictions being demonstrated as accurate in time.

The initial outlay is always gone, the money has to be spent.

Incidently it seems like the media have given Brad a pay rise, he was getting this

20 Highest Paid AFL Players for 2021

But $900 000 sounds better when they want to put the boots into StKilda.

I'm strangely confident on DeGoey, he would be stupid to pass on the sort of money we are going to offer him in comparison to Collingwood. He ain't a rocket scientist, he ain't making big money post his football career, this is his chance to set him self up for life. Collingwood are supposedly in cap hell. If he passes on us for a much smaller offer its a pretty big indictment on where we are at.

Oh well in that case I’m sure he will stay.

Its not up to him.

1:He can take the money and go on holiday for 3 years. No big deal, our overpaid useless spot on the list place has just opened up.
2:He can go elsewhere if StKilda receive a trade offer to their satisfaction.

I'm sick of the club being a charity case that everyone wipes their feet on.
Sign a 6 year contract , be prepared to see it out.

Sure things can be negotiated but you don't enter negotiations with a stack of cash and put your neck under Clarkson's foot.

What we paid in terms of draft picks to get Hill is now a sunk cost. No point worrying about it.

If we trade out Hill and don't have to pay any of his salary (regardless of what draft pick we get back), then it's a good deal if it enables us to get De Goey.

De Goey is three years younger, play a position of need and will match out playstyle a lot better than Hill ever has.

If it is simply Hill out and De Goey in then that is clearly a very big win for us. If we get a pick in the 20-40 range, then that is just gravy.

Obviously if we aren't getting De Goey or a player that uses that salary cap space then it makes sense to push for a better draft pick, even if that involves paying some of his salary.

It's like watching a slow motion car wreck happen, and being unable to do anything but see it unfold.

1. Commit to re-signing ratten after a dead cat bounce of a relatively easy fixture and no injuries has us looking way better than we really are at 8-3 mid 2022.

2. The rest of 2022 shows just how lucky we were to be 8-3, and the truth is we have gone nowhere but sideways or backwards since ratts took over.
This is despite the list now being largely in its prime years.

3. End 2022- We ditch hill because he's practically useless under ratten's style.

4. Mid 2023- we sack ratten because the evidence is now overwhelming... his style has been proven to be taking us nowhere and we are still fighting it out for 10th spot at best.

5. End 2023- new coach appointed who throws ratt's chaosball 'just go out and play' style in the bin.
New coach desperately needs a brad hill type to implement a run and carry, structured gameplan.

Yay.
This is closer to the truth than people will want to admit.
However, Hill seems to have lost the faith of some of his team mates, and in no way shape or form will he ever be worth what he's contracted on. It just seems his time at StKilda is up and they all need to cut their losses and move on.

So the likes of

Collingwood
Richmond
Geelong
Fremantle
Melbourne

Aren't in the 8?

I think we are fixated on him and he just has to name his terms and price. If he stays he stays for success, loyalty and fame. Most take the cash these days and JDG doesn't seem to rate any of those things particularly from the outside.

Throwing this out there if NWM says he wants a trade this year..

Three way trade

Adel get NWM and St Kilda second rounder, hand over first pick and Frampton
Collingwood get Frampton, give up Poulter
St Kilda get Poulter and Adelaides first

I'd rather have a spud on the list getting paid to be useless ( i'm used to it by now ) than give golden child Clarkson a free leg up.
I still remember the prick upping the contract for Carlisle during his trade.

Or trade him to any other team.

When you sign a contract , you don't just get to walk to the team of your choice half way through. you dont.

&*%$ being the doormat of the AFL .

Sounds like Hill 2.0.

We said we wanted him from so long out that it would’ve looked bad not to land him, so in the end we paid him whatever he wanted and gave Freo whatever they wanted

I doubt we need Hill's salary to get DeGoey.
Unless we are paying DeGoey even stupider money, in which case i'd rather we don't because we'll end up in the same place a few years on.

1000% I’d rather pay him $900k to run around at Sandy than trade him for a token pick AND pay some of his contract. Just an absurd thought
