The list isn’t good enough so we have go hit the draft but trading guys like Clark is just crazy Imo. Yes by all means trade out a few who are too old for our projected widow or those who have expressed a desire to move on. Unless I’m missing something our first along with another first for Clark takes us exactly nowhere in fact probably backwards.

Also maybe if we offered to eat whitfields salary we could get him cheap while seeing off hill for enough to cover the trade price. Gws free up say $750,000 and have the cash to hang on to hopper and get free agency compo next year.
St Kilda would not be looking at trading Clark , it is most probably Clark wanting out and if that is case get what we can for him or he stays.
Coaches must be putting on the heat and a few of the guys are wanting out.
Hill , Long , Bytel , Clark

Off Twitter saying Hill is a done deal to north … any ITKs have any knowledge of this?

I don't believe anything from twitter lol.

But running with it for a second, would we consider paying part of the salary? I'd imagine with north they are nowhere near the required cap without dishing dumb money out on contracts like we have done in the recent past. They'd be better off paying him for the remainder and dealing out the money to the young guys at the end once they have shown consistency

Hunter Clark going no where 🔒

The deal isn’t done.

Hill would like to go.

Ratten would actually like to keep him. I think he goes

A “salary dump” makes no sense as you would need to be bringing in a player with that salary. I believe we missed out on de Goey.

Multi year deal with triggers for more years apparently

To me we are in the frustration zone. The list is good enough to play finals but we aren't. You look at Brisbane, Collingwood and Freo who have adequate but not exceptional lists and it adds to the anxiety. Even Geelong and Sydney who are the best sides in it aren't incredible powerhouses. Melbourne probably the strongest list in the finals and it didn't help.

To me you hold and see what a few coaching changes can do next year. Chase some missing pieces on the cheap. Maybe a Lloyd as a FA from Sydney and. Phillips out of the VFL and have another crack while taking all our high picks to the draft. You are still in the window of finals but not mortgaging the future on it. If we pull up short again, prune some of the old guys and start drafting hard again with a new coach.
I think you’re overrating us gringo, on our day when things go our way we’re top 8 but i watch these sides every week and they have us covered well and truly. We should hold our youngsters along with a few key players and like most teams listen to offers on the others. Hit the draft, only trade where it makes sense, preferable for guys who can play 150 - 200 for us. Other than that it’s just cover amongst the unwanted and unloved, quality players cost quality picks, the free agency ship appears to have sailed without us this year.

If we’re desperate for a bump put next years first on the table and bundle up some later picks to see if we can grab another second rounder. Two 1st rounders and two 2nds along with last years is a massive injection of youth. If nas wants out next year your back into the first round and have a year of development on the clock of another young player. We really need to be thinking Tassie as well, access to quality could be cut off, I’d rather have a list with quality and a younger profile when that happens.

Stop touching our toes like subordinate monkeys and start saying fair deal or we’ll see you in court. Everything from the fixture to the draft is compromised, the dice are loaded and it’s time it was stopped.

It would be good to have a combative big voice representing the club. As much as people hate Eddie he was a voice that got things moving in favour of his club. Same with Kennett. Maybe we need to make GT our official club bully boy in the media.

So who does that leave us targeting?
I'd like to see us get a couple of fringe Richmond players if they are getting Taranto and Hopper in.
RCD, Sonsie, Dow all fairly handy who could go bigger with a decent run. Will now be further down the list at their clubs.
Even Biggy looked like there was something to work with in his one game.

Same could be said for Macrae and McInness at Collingwood if they have all the players they are linked to come in

Possibly but only Clark is the real deal in that lot. Hill out of favour, long not a best 22 lock, bytel whatever. Clark was talked up and primed last year then injuries hit, we have no one with his skill set to replace him.

This is why they stipulated they were going after free agents and DeGoey was the one they wanted.
Now with the trade talk around Hill , Long , Clark we could well pick up something in return as well.

Stay out of the bins

The reason they’re spending big is because those guys aren’t up to it, unless you think we can develop them and Richmond haven’t. Also Sonsie was a steal and will be part of there plans going forward.

I think we stack up against most sides. Game plan is a huge issue mostly around transition and forward entry. We were competitive against most of the top 8, beat Freo, Geelong, Tigers, unlucky not to win at least one of the Lions matches, pushed Sydney when they were smashing everyone etc. A lot of the list stepped up but the forward line stood out as completely dysfunctional and the midfield set up played a dated game style.

If we do drop off next year trading out our first pick would be a nightmare.

If that's the case who can blame Hill for wanting to go. He needs to secure his family's future.
Problem he has is
a) despite Twitter luminaries tell us, it is not a salary dump. We had four retirements a couple on decent money, we offered DeGoey 800k plus over 5, not the actions of a club salary stressed
b) contracted for another two years. They need to make the running.

At this stage, I think it’s better Hill goes, especially if that’s what he wants. We don’t need to keep a player who’s head is already out the door.
Sorry, but Ratts’ opinion shouldnt count for much on this.

Having said that, I’d rather keep him than give him away for peanuts.

Hang on…wasn’t he saying that was De Goey’s new deal, not Hills at North?
( the multiple years with triggers thing…) well that’s how I understood it. 🤔

How about Clark, Long and Hill for Pick 1?
How about we keep Clark, give them Long, Hill and or first rounder for pick 1
Then split it into 5 and 7 (or something like that) and get Clark and two of the most highly rated players in the country.

THis is not perfectly thought out of course, those numbers will have to be adjusted, but Hills cooked... Longs no great loss, were as Clark could still be something. And three could be somethings are a lot better than 1 should be something, but may not be.

IMO, Ratts has a love affair with Hill, probably due to Hawthorn days.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his telling the team to “keep feeding it to Hilly” or words to that affect and blaming them publicly in his pressers (as he did) for not doing it, drove a bit of a wedge between Hill and the rest of the team.

Smacks of having a favourite child to me, and not very good man management. And while I know every coach would have favourites, it wasn’t handled in a great way for me, and possibly it bred the discontent we heard about? ( if there was any truth in it.)

So, when stavro#4 says that Ratts doesn’t want Hill to leave, I think the list management team really need to be strong about what’s best for the team and overrule Ratts if they disagree. Coach should not have the final say in this type of scenario.

Just my thoughts.

Easier fixture very unlikely to fall more than a place or two, we should with decent run finish 7 -10.

This exactly. Have we learnt nothing from the poleaxing DMAC got for years.
Clark has much more upside. Will be disappointed as he'll if as stav posted we are after just a top 10 pick for him.

Listening to Cameron on SEN just makes me despair, crapping on about how great the GWS and Sydney academies are and how they deserve their legups, at the same time talking about how good it is the team that had won 3 of 5 flags can get Hopper and Taranto.
We are so far behind the eight ball, coupled with coming 10 in 2021 but getting one of the hardest draws for 2022, having to sell games to Cairns because other clubs get guaranteed blockbusters every season because of the FIXture.

Basically we can't compete because the AFL want it that way.
For every Dmac and Sincs there is a Billings, and Dunstan…

Players that have traits to suggest they’d be very good footballers but just don’t come on like you’d hope.

The difference between Dmac and Sincs is they’ve both got elite athletic traits and endurance. I don’t see that at all with Clark which shows why he doesn’t play midfield and is a liability on defensive transition. Much like JB and Dunstan. However, some of his skills with ball in hand can be elite. My concern is that he’ll end up being a GOP who has flashes of brilliance but never puts it together/finds a spot in the team.

It doesn't make sense that Hill is in Ratts plans though. I think he must have been a want of Richo. He doesn't really use run and carry off the wings. We are more a chip/lead style under Ratts which doesn't suit traditional one way attacking wings. The modern wing prototype is the Langdon, tall, athletic runner who runs to defend like an accountable zone defender but transitions into an attacking running wingman as soon as the ball is won back.

Acres is much more that type ironically. Wood and DMac pretty handy at it too
