This Clark situation is concerning. So we shopped him obviously for some reason most likely we don't see him having the drive to succeed. Next minute he wants to go to the bottom team probably on good coin. They low-ball us and we decide not to give him away for peanuts (right decision).

But now we've got a player who appears unhappy and wants to walk to the bottom team at the first sign of adversity. This is the real concern for me, we need kids that are going to work their asses off to drag us up by their coat-tails.

Obviously the hope now is he sits down with Lenny and really assesses what he wants his career to be and it somehow clicks for him. But there's a good chance we have a genuine trade request on our hands in 12 months time, and also the underlying concern are we pushing s**t uphill with this bloke?
This situation can be a wake up call for a lot of players. Things haven't gone his way and now he needs to move on, work hard to change the perception the coaches have of him. If this doesn't make him focus on his professionalism, nothing will.

And if he still plans on leaving, he needs to pull his finger out and have a great year because it's his chance at a good sized contract.

Better than being full of anger and bewilderment

I think it's worse.
We needed an injection of some draft picks. Eg Richmond last year.

We've delisted/retired Hanners, Paddy, Kent, Geary and Joyce.

We lost Long.

We don't know if Bytel stays.

We're banking on Clark finally getting the message after 2 years. If not he'll be Luke Ball version 2 can see it now with that smug **** Connors.

And the only guy we got in was Cordy.

Not a lot to be impressed with.

Clark + 9 for 3 and NY 2nd and 3rd is a decent deal for us but understandable that North wouldn't have liked it. Makes me wonder why you guys jump at shadows on here, no way we would have entertained clark and 9 for just pick 3.
Rawlings just confirmed the deal we offered.was Clark and 9 for 3...

Perhaps some tough feedback from St Kilda and a paltry offer for him from North may resonate with him? Perhaps both clubs aren't getting it wrong?

That’s hilarious. All this talk for what was essentially a lowball pitch.

Honestly it was probably overs for what he's achieved. We had to save face and they had to save face so both wasted each other's time and energy. Probably both happy to play grown ups while the big boys were playing.

Hopefully we can repair the relationship because he's worth more to us playing than what he'll get us next year.

It’s disappointing because we set out to bring in some support in the front half, and back half, improve our draft hand and go after some top end talent.
We did one of those things. Cordy
Not bringing in someone to assist up forward is a big issue. But adding an extra 2nd round pick for Long is a win.

And we can still trade picks so we might still be able to improve our draft hand.

I really hope so. A year is a long time, hopefully this is a turning point for him.

Who would you have liked to see us trade in?
Would have liked to see Clark traded/packaged for a quality pick tbh.

Disappointed to learn we weren’t even in Bowes convo for pick 7.

Glad we had a crack at DeGoey without dropping our dacks.

Don’t know if we spoke to Dunkley at all.

Next year is the last year to capitalise on young talent imo with our demographic, so I’ll await Clark’s improvement, watch Nas with a keen eye to see if he’s keen on leaving.

I get what you're saying...but the footy landscape has changed. A lot of these kids seem bi-polar. If they're successful in their first few years, they're a good chance to stay, even through the lean times, but if they're not...they either seek that gratification (hence why everyone wants to go to Geelong & Tiges, and Collingwood) or they're happy to coast in a more desperate team for years.
It's just a job to them...except they have A LOT of power, and seemingly -more often than not- get to choose their own promotions and locations

It shows we are there to deal though, and that North not so much despite pick 3 being available to sell apparently.
If you're an outsider wanting to deal with either, you generally want to have a chat with the mob going 1st dp to first dp + player rather than bloke requesting 3x 1st dp.

Playing ze field.

Bit delusional for north to think they could get Clark without giving up a first rounder.

We’ll be fine next year, our list is good enough you can all relax. The issue remains our consistency of effort, prep and coaching.

Yes there were a lot of trades floating around but not many were ideal for us. Look forward to getting a top 10 pick in the draft and then jumping into the pre-season. Lots of new coaches and staff at the club, couple of new players, some returning from injury players, and importantly lots of room for improvement in our list.

No reason to be defeatist about next season already just because you got blue balled in a draft period when Gags told us all along we weren’t looking to be active players.

Every club above us has actively improved by bringing ready-made players in.
We do not stand a hope next year, my only wish is we plummet instead of stagnating as we’ve done ad nauseum for a decade.
Get some f*cking quality in.

The problem is if you drop no-one wants in and players want out to chase a premiership. The only reason we haven't had an exodus up until now is that most of our lists have been shit and our good players get paid like superstars.

We have to start doing everything better from on-field to recruiting, development and list management.

Doesn't matter how it is dressed up a 2nd and a 3rd for Clark would have blown up big time. Contracted and many still think he is a quality player.

Even 9 and Clark for 3 was way overs imo.

Don't care if we repair our relationship or not. The kent is a professional on probably 400k a year. Do what is required and don't be spoilt over privileged child.
Still want to leave next yrar, fine, off you go, we will easily get a second and a third for him plus another year of football.

Just like Dunkley and Hen… wait never mind.

Wont Happen.

Plus I think hawthorn finishes bottom so pick 2 or 3 for Clark on his own if he performs.
Brisbane weren't 18th otherwise Dunkley would have walked to them

Anyhow 12 months to see how this plays out

I would rather Gallagher out and Clark stay

Looks like we tried to trade Clark for a quality pick.

If we get Dunkley then you give up pick 9 and next years first. I just don't know if that's a smart move for us.

Bowes was obviously always going to Geelong I wouldn't lose sleep over that one.
