His Dad was my hero growing up, played for Swan Districts hard as hell.
Spewed when he ended up at the cheats
I remember his debut against us in the second half of 18 when we went toe to toe with them and came away thinking he was just another small kid who lacked pace so no chance long term! As early as halfway through the next year he was impacting off half back and I was eating my words. It was that little bit of mongrel that I’d missed on his debut.

sr36 will like this, but in that scenario investing significant draft assets in a 190cm+ inside mid or third tall defender offers more bang for buck, IMO. I’d then be loading up on a KPF via trade or FA if required.
I'm bullish about us this year. I don't think we'll end up with a high enough pick to be eyeing off the top kpfs anyway.

Begg will be a very good player with more time and development - maybe a couple of AFL games later in the season to assess how he's progressing.

I liked Cox's game today. He looked quite mobile and he stuck a few marks. A couple of times when he didn't mark what he would have been expected to, he still managed to bring the ball to ground and to our advantsge.
Has he improved the distance of his kicking? He slotted a set shot from 50 (into a slight breeze) today and that has previously been out of his range. Maybe McRae is getting more out of him coaching-wise.

It could become a redundant discussion if things continue to tick along as they currently are. Johnson becoming senior relevant with the type of footy we saw today would have me re-thinking our draft priorities in the short term.

I’m more impressed we have started to actually identify and draft or select natural forwards.
Finally someone said something and changed tact.

Draper low disposals, what role is he playing?

Half back. For context no-one is putting up huge numbers in our VFL team atm with the new game plan possessing the ball less + the drop off in skill making the game more contested. Reef got into the seniors with a 15d game.

Don't forget that Draper has started behind our other 2021 draftees because of his shoulder injury. He has some special traits, but will take some time.

Did Begg just go to the bench when Cox rotated through the ruck? Really intrigued to see what if any forward game he has, didn’t see him playing there at all though.

Overall, he’s still a few years off IMO but shows some fairly exciting glimpses. Think he may turn out to be a very handy player for us.

Do you know of the Kestel brothers ? Stu captained Swans and Wesley played over 100 games for them in the number 10
Can,t say I do, left Perth 40 years ago and only glance over the scores from time to time. The WAFL then was a strong system however the clubs were raided by the then VFL system around the time the Krakouer's were starring

Neat footballers can make it. For instance Baker at the Tiges is someone with a similar skill set (he’s got a harder edge than Bianco, IMO). Another issue is also environment because I see limited opportunity for him without a lot of injuries. The likes of Draper, Murley and HH are already looking like they’ve moved past him for mine. The thing is he had big games at that level before he was called up last year so I don’t want to jump the gun.
If he can get to Baker's ability to stand up in a contest, he's a chance. He's a fair way from that at the moment, but not without hope I suppose.

Me too. I view him as hopefully the last of a flawed criteria that recruited too many smalls who are nice footballers but lack an athletic edge.
Hopefully that has been successfully addressed with the drafting of Murley, H.H & Nick last year.
Time to go tall with both the mids and KPP

me too! Love watching Leon and the Narkles tear them up halcyon days the early 80s
Great memories of Beasley, big Ronnie Boucher and Phil and Keith Narkle tearing it up.
It was worth going to the footy just to see Boucher Vr's Stephen Michaels
What a star Michael's was, it was a shame Victorians didn't see how great a player this man was.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Leon's blind turn and goal to put Essendon in front for the first time in the last quarter of the 1984 grand final against Hawthorn was the stuff of September folklore. He was a big part of back-to-back premierships in 1984-85 with his 2 last quarter goals pivotal to the Bumbers winning the flag.

Athletically the Daicos brothers are much worse than the Brown brothers. But give me the Daicos brothers with their skills and footy nous any day.

Bianco is a smart footballer with good skills. Just played out of position at the moment as a small forward. Belongs in the midfield or half back where he played his junior career.

Think you're right 36, however a bad run with injuries to key personnel may see us back down the ladder again.
Our olds are still the nucleus of our best players for now.
