1. That’s exactly the point. There is a context.

Anyone who says things like “it’s the selectors fault” should give themselves an uppercut

But nonetheless it still illustrates the point

I would not EVER think that. Not all games are equal. Ever
I mean I gave context in my post, not my fault you’re refusing to acknowledge it ;)

Cannot express how strongly I disagree with the notion of games played as a measure of success

Games played is not a reasonable measure of a picks worth or the quality of a player
I wont bother pointing out the Brownlow Medalists, Best Player of the 20th century, dual premiership captains, dual Norm Smith Medalists and plethora of premiership players, AFL legends etc etc

I dont think we will go 3 smalls, esp considering next years draft for elite mids.

Surprised if we dont take one tall assuming 3 picks.

Ideally for me,

Pick 10 O'Sullivan (or Wilson/Windsor as outside runners if he is gone). Then use one of next 2 picks on a tall. If trade up he, Curtin (if slips) or maybe Sanders would be the likely choices as less need for Caddy, Wizard

Pick 14 De Mattia has been pumped up an does look good and to be my novice eyes another Pedlar type? Otherwise swap this pick to Freo for Poorts F1

Pick 20 For pre season watchers seeing Moir 'not look out of place' IF we are convinced then he could be the bargain pick of the draft if injuries were impacting. Perfect mid sized forward option. Otherwise George Stevens could make an immediate impact in 24 before the inevitable Cats attempted poaching in a few years time

The fact all 3 of our players are first round means 3 year contracts now doesnt it? Bonus if so

EDIT interesting a few players like Wilson and De Mattia slipping on latest phantom from recent days

Of course way more athletic than James Borlase and more versatile. We did bid on him in his draft year so clearly we rated him.
Jeremy Sharp delisted today too, some quite decent footballers being delisted the last few days as clubs position themselves for the draft.
Sharp will be heading to Fremantle you’d expect. Tried to get there in last years trade period

WCE got Judd in 2001 they made the finals in 2002.

WCE got Natanui in 2008 and made a grand final by 2011

This is a team that has shown it can turn around quickly

Be very careful paying overs for a future draft pick of theirs
I always thought 2008 was a bit of an anomaly. They actually had a pretty reasonable list and were hammered with injuries that season.

Similar in some ways to Melbourne finishing 17th in 2019 and Collingwood also finishing 17th in 2021.

I'm just not seeing with WC this time around

I wouldn't really describe it as an anomaly, though they were worse than they should've been (mainly due to injuries, as you mentioned). Injuries also ruined the end of their 2007 campaign I think.

2007: 3rd, 15-7 (straight sets)
2008: 15th, 4-18
2009: 11th, 8-14
2010: 16th, 4-18
2011: 4th, 17-5 (prelim defeat)

The interesting thing about 2009 is that they were 14th and on 4 wins with 5 weeks to go - not sure what sparked that late season charge.

This is an interesting one for me, I rate moir on talent and x factor. Do you think it's possible he slides to a rookie spot though? We have pick 89 which after the passes might come into a late 50s pick, if he was still on the draft board I wouldn't risk him getting a rookie slot elsewhere.
On that note… does anyone know how rookie draft order is determined?? Is it out?

I’m keen on either Will Green or Taylor Goad (in that order) with our 3rd pick. Both very coordinated for 204-206cm guys. I’m not seeing it with Mitch Edwards though.

surely this is the year to take a young ruck given the talent on offer, and particularly given we have three first round picks so can cover other areas with the first two picks.

Would love O’Sullivan , then bid on Graham and take Wilson if he is matched . Goad interests me at 20 as does the other ruck Mitch Edwards … also DeMattia around there

Also be happy with Leake with either of first 2 picks

At this stage my favourite scenario is trade up to 8 (14 + 20)

8: O'Sullivan
10: Leake

Second favorite scenario

10: Leake
14: Trade for Freo's Future First (Freo)
20: Demattia/Goad

Third favorite scenario

10: Leake
14: Wilson
20: Trade for Freo's Future First (Collingwood)

What about 10 and 20 into 8 (Osullivan)
Then Wilson/Demattia at 14?

With a few WA players in that mid 11-20 range, get the feeling our Pick 14 and 20 might be of some real value to the WA teams here.

Trading with them for future picks would be the way to go.
Hello, I am wondering if you think there is any chance you trade
10,14,2024r1 for
37,58, Eagles 2024r1?
Their board is talking about it.

Doedee will most likely play little or no AFL next year..
I wouldn't be taking Leake who you would best describe as a "utility" with our 1st, IMO he has played his best footy as an intercepting medium defender but has also looked pretty good as a medium marking forward...the $64 question is can he transition into an AFL midfielder in time. IMO we should be either taking a mid or a tall with our 1st Darcy Wilson (outside mid/wing/half forward) or Connor O'Sullivan (KPP if still available) then you could possibly look at James Leake (Utility) but my preference would be Harry DeMattia (inside/outside mid/forward) then best available of whoever is left at the top of our board if we retain our 3rd 1st round pick, personally at this point I'd take Joel Freijah (tall athletic goal kicking winger/outside mid).
I hope like the article the other day mentioned, that say GWS or Geelong take Leake as it takes him off the board and leaves another of the top liners there for us

Not formal, big footy world.
I assume 10 or 14 would be offered you guys, not both.
I'd love us to get on board with WCE if they were open to it on the night with either 10 or 14 to be used on a specific player they want and then we swap 2024 1sts - the Carlton trade scenario we did a few years back. I am not giving up 3 or 4 1sts for their 1st when its an unknown. If they could absolutely guarantee it would be pick 1 next year (and they can't), then I might consider trading out all of our 1sts this year and our F1 for 2024 pick 1 and say 23 and 58 this year
