Tim Silvers basically said we're looking at taking only 2 or maybe 3 at a pinch in the AA interview I posted in the Thebby thread so it's pretty clear we'll be looking to trade up or into 2024.
Yeah, more than three picks seems very unlikely.

We will have quite a bit of flexibility around list structure, though - whatever we do, it'll be a conscious choice, for better or worse.

I want to see two early picks and something in the 20s, then I think we're done.

Pick 20. North will get compensation Pick 2 for McKay.

No they won't. Clubs will burn down AFL House if that happens.

North Melbourne are competitive, that's all that matters. The AFL doesn't need them to be successful, like they did GCS.
Dont worry you were not the only one that disagreed with me.

yep

Holy guacamole!

Just shows he's gone the extra hard yards to give himself the best possible chance to get onto an AFL list. clubs will know if they draft him they'll get 100% buy in. Can play as well and tested very well at the Vic State Combine on Sunday
Where do you think he'll end up going? Top 10?

Can he actually play though?

Sam Kerridge had a build like that and we know how that turned out.

I've seen enough to know he's a very decent prospect as a very speedy and agile running back, a real metres gained type defender in that role and the Stingrays gave him midfield exposure partnering Harry DeMattia in there after representing VC at the Nationals in defence. In the few midfield games he played he definitely showed enough to suggest that he can play midfield with further development.

Inner Sanctum's draft bio :

Billy Wilson

Defender

182cm, 71kg

The 2023 riser for Vic Country, a halfback with excellent acceleration and accumulation, Wilson rebounds, gets high, and sets up forward thrusts.

He creates overlap, is generally clean, clears the backline well, his polish is reasonable, and his defensive skillset is developing. Is averaging a team-high 5.6 rebound 50s for the Rays as well as 20 disposals.

Has a good athletic base and well-built body, his form coming off the back of a strong preseason and 15 games of Talent League exposure in 2022.

Profile reads well. 10cm short.

Exactly, but then again Kerridge got his chance because of his athletic prowess, not exactly sure he would have in an earlier era based on his skills set.

Yeah, given the feedback from the league over their assistance package, I thought the AFL wouldn't give it. Until we got 19 for Doedee. No way they were going to give North the same compo as a non-vic team.

Still, while trying to trade up in the draft, would we rather 9 and 30 or 10 and 20, or is it a push?

Kane Mcauliffe with some consistent results - quick with a good leap

Still baffles me that this testing exists after watching them play all year.

My guess is it's a way to track if a lad is still physically developing as much as it is about traits - after all, most of the improvement being in the AFL would have is physical. On top of being a way to compensate if injuries are present and to judge how well a player is recovering.

The eyes can only tell you so much about a player.

Gold Coast don’t need too many more points to match bids on their 3 x academy players.

Let’s assume they are bid on at 2, 6, 12. Points required are 5,536, less 20% discount = 4,428.

They currently have 11, 18, 31, 37, 61, 65, 70, 73, total = 3,676 points.

Effectively, only now need to bring in an extra 752 points = pick 25.

Should be able to achieve that with a couple of trades (Chol, Burgess).

Unless we offer them 2024 picks, not sure we will have a shot at pick 11.

They have four as I understand it.

Recovering players don't test do they? Don't clubs also do their own doctors exams on players?

I feel like after years of looking at these results, they often don't translate to what you end up seeing on the football field (except for the obvious ones).

To use all of those picks, Gold Coast would need to bring 8 open main list spots into the draft. I can't see them taking more than 6 in, possibly 5.

Assuming it's 6 spots, their top 6 picks provide 3,628 points against a need of 4,941 (6,176 less 20% discount) based on bids at 2, 6 and 12.

If we trade them 20 and 23 for 11 (and they lose the use of 65), they get to 3,936 points. If we add 26 (and they lose 61) it gets them to 4,530. That's probably close enough if one of their picks slips a spot or 2. 20, 23 and 26 is a lot for 11 and Burgess, but if we aren't using a third pick, then it doesn't really matter. Maybe they give us a future 3rd back.

OR, they can wait until draft night and trade picks without losing their back end picks. Which would add another 225 points.

Doesn’t sound like they are waiting for draft night as their list manager said they are talking to us about pick swaps and Burgess was part of that
