I’ve never seen the board so fearful of another average team.
They lost to GWS and Richmond to whom we did not suffer loss. Then won a showdown and beat an ordinary freo at home.
Whilst I do rate their speed, I think our weapons are more of a concern to them.
Our team defence has been on point and probably our strength this season.
Play our way from the start and win it at the coal face, supply OUR forwards with quality looks and their speed will be quelled.
Potentially our best lineup for the year with Walsh,Kennedy and Acres back.
I’m backing us in by 5 goals.
I don’t think anyone is fearing crows. It’s more about us being prepared to work hard on the road. reckon we didn’t show up mentally last time we played them in Adelaide. This is my biggest fear.

On paper we have a much better skilled/balanced side. Bring effort and we should win.

Fisher given coaches votes for his performance last week. Think he’s staying put.
Fishers first half netted 5 clearances, I don't think he was actually effective with those 5 but that's still a HUGE number for a half of footy. His second half was better. He adds a point of difference. If Fish can close the gap between his best and his worst then he's a top 10 player at Carlton.

He is miles ahead of other players in his role, barring the unknown in Cuningham.

To me, Fisher should be sub. I'm not going to cut him too much slack because he had a good 2nd half last week. I think he has been poor this year.
Therefore, the sub role means he's on notice
Ed definitely not sub. Need him clamping down
LOB goes back to VFL
Fisher also provides (faster) fresh legs and can play, if needed, CS mid, wing or HF
He got Coaches' Votes against North

Last year's B & F....

Young to Thilthorpe, Weiters to Tex & McGov to Fog.

Thilthorpe isn't the greatest contested mark so Young should handle him in the aerial battle but Riley moves well and gets ground balls extremely well for a man his size. He's a crumbing threat inside 50 which is ironic for a 200cm forward so Young will have to stay awake after the marking contest.

Agree. Still some doubt on Fog at the moment. If he's not in Gov goes to Gollant.

I didn't realise how quick Young is until the North game. Did anyone else see him chase down Stephenson as he was running into goal?

His chase caused him to get pinged for running too far...far out the speed was impressive as he had a lot of ground to make up. He absolutely flew past Hollands who was also chasing.

Stephenson wasn't at full speed though. He's usually at his quickest when running into a TAB outlet.

Revised Team for Round 5 post Doc withdraw (Ins/Possibles if forced out)

FB: Newman - Weitering - McGovern (Kemp)
HB: Cincotta - Young - Saad
C: Acres - Cripps - Hollands
OB: Pittonett - Kennedy - Cerra
HF: Fisher - C Curnow - Silvagni
FF: Motlop - H McKay - Durdin

Interchange: De Koning (F/R), Walsh (OB/F/W), E Curnow (OB/F) Cowan (B)

Sub: Carroll

In: Walsh, Acres, Cincotta, Kennedy
Out: Honey (omit), LOB (omit), Docherty (Inj), Hewett (managed)

Fisher, Ed or Walsh when playing forward I would play as an extra wingman providing the hard run back into defense and an extra out for our defense to have as mobile get-out targets

I would manage Hewett and give him a week off to get the hand right, don’t believe we need all three of Him, Cripps and Kennedy in middle, we need to retain more run against Adelaide and therefore. My alternative is Kennedy as 3rd forward instead of JSOS, but I think he is doing well in that role at present, H&C played well on weekend and JSOS is part of the reason

Carroll as a sub gives us flexibility and is added run if we are getting beaten with Adelaide speed

if McGovern is not right then I would give Kemp a go
Owies unlucky but I say get him 100% right and then it will be tough call re: who of Fish, Mots Or Durdin is not firing, now we have runners like Walsh back (and even Cotta in a couple of weeks)

Carn the Blues!!!

End of the day pretty much any side can win on their day so expected that we'd be a little worried. Most are confident but Adelaide over there is not easy the way they're going and now without Doc.

The only games I probably have absolutely zero worries is our WC game in a few weeks given their injuries.

Perfect

Plowman never seems to convert reserves form into senior form unfortunately.
He will be way too slow for Adelaide's spread from defence. They run in big numbers back there and the ball will be coming in too quick for him in my opinion.

It's between his ears. Out of the limelight in the VFL he just plays footy (although taking a lot of kickouts pads his stats) so looks too good for VFL.

But he gets into the AFL and immediately implodes mentally. Nothing against the bloke but I hate how he unsettles the entire backline with his shakey moments. Our backline has been immense this season as a unit and one of the main reasons is the absence of Plow. They can all trust each other - as long as he is not there.

For anyone looking for tickets to the game tomorrow. I have an adult and junior ticket available. Just DM me.

Was planning to go with my son on a Dad and son’s trip but he decided he didn’t want to go so instead we’ll be watching on TV.

With Doc out I think the time is now for Kemp.
Almost 22 with just a handful of games, highly rated but injured junior and put together his best block of 2's games (prior to this season he only had one game over 20 disposals in the VFL).

I wouldn't have a problem with us going down the Plowman route but I think Kemp has the attributes to be a long term player for us and now would be a good time to find out.

In - Walsh, Kennedy, Acres, Kemp
Out - Docherty, O'Brien, Honey, Carroll (sub)

B - Saad Young McGovern
HB - Newman Weitering Cowan
C - Acres Cripps Hollands
HF - Silvagni C Curnow Fisher
F - Durdin McKay Motlop
R - DeKoning Walsh Cerra
I - Pittonet Kennedy Hewett Kemp
Sub - E. Curnow

On the positive side of things, it means neither of our teams have to play one of our "home games" at a neutral venue. It's not as big an issue for us, as we split our home games between Marvel and the G.
I would think it could hurt the Dogs a little more as they you guys are a much more formidable force at Marvel.
Either way, I see the positives in it, we'd both have to play a game or two in SA anyway against these teams, may as well do it in the round we don't have to lose a home game.

Excuse my ignorance but dont all clubs have 11 home and 11 away games regardless of what happens with the coin tosses at gather round?

We still have our usual 5 interstate games apart from gather round anyway, so im struggling to see what the positive is?

Adelaide Oval isn't exactly a fortress for the Crows.

2022 - went 6-7 at home.
2021 - went 4-7 at home.
2020 - went 2-8 at home.
2019 - went 6-6 at home.
2018 - went 8-4 at home.

Gotta go back half a decade to find a season in which they went at better than 50% in their home state.

They've also had some big losses there in the last 12 months. GWS pumped them by 10 goals in R7, Lions by 6 goals in R9, Melbourne by 5 goals in R16, Port by 9 goals in R23.

They're not a pushover, and our record there isn't great....but GWS aren't a pushover and our record up there was shizen too. No taking it lightly of course, but we should be confident that we get the win as long as we play with intent.

Just 2 VFL games?

Please. A match sim, without any knowledge of workloads

I do rate him highly, but has nothing to do with Fog or Dow as they play different roles

Gov yes, Weitering would be covered by S Durdin

Not a hope in hell, the MC would crucify him, they wouldn't do it

They can offer what ever they like, but that doesn't change the pecking order, nor Kemp's current deficiencies

Again nothing to do with other types

Kemp hasn't had the extended opportunity, due to others being better equipped to handle the role he plays

Let's start moving away from the "rebuild" mentality and strategy, we don't need to blood, or play any player based on potential. We are in win/make finals/contend mode
Plowman played 15 games last year to Kemp's 4 and I don't think he was better equipped, nor do I think their roles were potentially much different. Plowman suffered as much in the air as Kemp may have on the ground balls. I am not sure Kemp could not play on a medium forward. Point is, it is speculation until Kemps gets an opportunity, while all the while he is trending positively

We play 6 games this year against interstate teams at away and only 4 at home. Given last year in the 2 double up games against interstate sides we lost by 5 goals away and won by 5 goals at home (making us 10goals better home than interstate. Normally I would think it would average at around 5 goals) that is an undesirable scenario.

I would back Cincotta in especially if Weitering, Gov, Young and Newman are there.
LOB and honey easy outs
Wouldn’t surprise me to see Ed drop to the sub to make room assuming George is right
Other than Doc that’s a decent team out there
