Plowman played 15 games last year to Kemp's 4 and I don't think he was better equipped, nor do I think their roles were potentially much different. Plowman suffered as much in the air as Kemp may have on the ground balls. I am not sure Kemp could not play on a medium forward. Point is, it is speculation until Kemps gets an opportunity, while all the while he is trending positively

Last year means little this year, as both Plow and Kemp aren't currently playing AFL. Kemp is developing, that doesn't mean he should be selected ahead of others in the team

Hope we're smart enough to play through a Cowan or [insert Doc replacement] off half back, can see us being too predictable feeding the ball to a heavily marked Saad.
I'm with ya. Last year the Cows did a great job in marking Saad, knowing he's our major playmaker off half back with his run and distribution. Take him out, and you've nullified one of our key weapons - the other being Zilliams unfortunately on the sidelines. Gov can give us that run and carry, but may have his hands full with a Tex or Thilthorp or Fogarty.

Which is why I'd consider bringing Cincotta in - potentially gives us more run off half back - which is why we brought him in to cover for Zach. It's a big ask to bring him in for his first game in front of a hostile crowd, and an opposition with a loaded forward half - but in his own words when drafted "I'm ready to go into battle alongside you guys".

We may very well bring in Plowman to okay on one of their smalls. We like go use him on the last line when teams clear out their forward line to give their smalls one on ones in the square. We have been using Newman in this role, but Plowman is quicker.
I’d be stunned. Despite playing well in the vfl team he got found out for his lack of agility even at that level.

Agree. Still some doubt on Fog at the moment. If he's not in Gov goes to Gollant.

I didn't realise how quick Young is until the North game. Did anyone else see him chase down Stephenson as he was running into goal?

His chase caused him to get pinged for running too far...far out the speed was impressive as he had a lot of ground to make up. He absolutely flew past Hollands who was also chasing.
Good observation. Well clocked. He is coming along well. Still seems oddly capable of the bizarre. Like dropping chest marks with no pressure. I feel he is still building self belief.

This is where Kemp can come in, either through replacing Newman there, or allowing Saad to drop deep without us losing much on the rebound.

While I have my thoughts on the best positions for Kemp, that's what he's trained and embedded for presently.

Rather than force a spot for Kemp I back the MC in to make the right call for our side. If they see a spot for Kemp, I back them in, if they don't - I'm not going to be up in arms about it. He looks a real talent, there is plenty of time for him to secure his spot in the side.

Liking Young more and more. He still has the odd poor moment and games where he drops his confidence a bit and starts punching everything rather than marking. But his good is miles in front of his bad and took a key mark towards the end of the Geelong and GWS games to really seal it. Hopefully that self confidence just grows from there.

I can see us dropping Cerra into the back line a bit more this week to allow Fisher to play more midfield minutes and accommodate Walsh. Obviously Fish was a big key to the win last week and he got the 2 coaches votes off Vossy as a result.

If Adelaide wins (which I expect) it will be because their small zippy midfielders get those free runs into their forward line. We have to deny them the ball as much as possible around the clearances to win.

Aside from Docherty, we have our best 22 available this weekend.

Now some will argue:
-Cowan is behind Williams and Boyd - this may be true, but I think the difference is marginal;
-Owies is best 22 - I don't agree, but even so it's arguable between him, Martin and perhaps Honey; and
-Cuningham is best 22 - this may be the case, but this is very much speculation given the time he's spent injured.

Other than that, we have players who don't seem 100% (Hewett) or will probably be a bit rusty (Walsh).

We really should be seeing our running game explode this week with all 4 of Walsh, Acres, Hollands and Ed in the team.

Probaby is staying put...like I said, I'm not going to rely on his 2nd half performance and rejoice Aside from that, he's been very average.

I don’t think Fisher has been that bad since the round 1 game where he went missing after quarter time. He was terrible that night but not on his own there.

Made one or two big blunders against North which turned a very good day into a decent one. The coaches still rewarded him for his game. Stood up and played a massive last quarter against GWS.

Think he is slowly but surely finding the form that saw him have a mini-breakout last year. Still our best hff (which does say a bit about our list) so Voss will stick with him through the rough patches.

Williams provides more run but can't defend as well as Cowan, and is prone to bad turnovers.

Owies is behind all of Durdin, Motlop and Fisher in terms of smalls...whether you play a 7th forward in the 22 is questionable if we have all our mids avaialble.

I'd suggest that Cowan is better defensively than Williams - in the sense that he'll come off his man and drop back in the hole for an intercept mark, and he'll commit whole-heartedly to a chase and tackle. His kicking is very good too. However he hasn't yet offered the same kind of run and drive off HB that Williams has done. If both were fit, I think you'd always pick Williams if forced to choose one, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're not as or more balanced with Cowan.

Owies is fringe, and there's nothing wrong with admitting that. By fringe, I mean he's in the 18-26 range on the list. He's been selected pretty much any week he's been available for selection over the last two years, so you could make the case that he's therefore "Best 22". However our injury list in the last couple of years has been diabolical, and it would also be fair to argue that had we had even 80% of our list to choose from most weeks that he might have found himself on the emergency list instead of the starting team sheet. As a Cat B rookie and late to return to the game, he certainly still has scope for improvement and may continue to feature in the future, but if we recruit for the front half then I think he's also one of the first blokes that would be in line to make way for a shiny new first round x-factor goal machine.
