Ahh my bad. They must have changed the rules. Been a few years. I know originally it was only f1 and f2. maybe it was changed to allow clubs to accrue draft points easier. Who knows. Happy to accept I am wrong.
I think where you maybe getting confused is I believe you can’t trade f3/4’s if you have already traded f1/2’s in the same trade unless you bring in other F1/2’s

So eg we trade F1 to secure 4 and a F2 as a part of some random deal that we can just make up here. We aren’t then able to offer a F3/F4 as a tack on or buy back into the draft without getting a F1/2 back

I think a lot on here were laughing when PA signed Finlayson and Alliir.
Finlayson might be fine in the regular season in meaningless games against mid to bottom teams, but has gone to complete water since they lost Dixon and their form has tapered off. He’s not helping them win a flag.

Aliir has been a great pickup, but again isn’t a KPD and is a reason why they are struggling defensively. He gets exposed one on one, so without the right players around him, they struggle.

Esava is not a KPD and has played as many good games as an intercept defender as Frampton did for us. BZT would be pure depth at the Crows as we are stocked in these type of players.

Sweet is a cheap ruck option, but is he actually an upgrade on their current players? Time will tell, but it’s unlikely and clearly their only option after missing Grundy.

The Crows have been linked with a cheap KP option in Krueger, that’s exactly the type of player you should be targeting for cheap, not paying them 700k a season like Port with Esava.

Don’t disagree re Krueger.
Maybe we do have player(s) lined up but it is frustrating to see us not linked to any best 22 players to improve us.
Natural progression could leave us going backwards.

The same report indicated, however, that the Power could look to split its future first-rounder and turn it into two picks in this year’s draft, which might not only help it get a Ratugolea deal done with Geelong, but also a trade with Essendon with Brandon Zerk-Thatcher.
I wonder if we would be interested in trading for Ports future first. If don't end up getting a deal with GC for pick 4, we might be keen to trade a couple of our 2nd rounders to Port for their F1 (assuming we end up with mutliple 2nds after Mcadam and Doedee trade/compo).

Their F1 would be around the 12-16 range if they have another good year. We are likely to only take 2 live picks this year anyway which would be our first plus the North 2nd.

We seemingly had dollars set aside for Redman too

Hopefully there's a Plan B up the sleeve

It certainly looks like we've gone for another big fish and failed (this time).

Mind you the only position we're in desperate need of is inside midfield and with resigning Crouch, I don't know if loading up on lesser lights does much. May as well back Soglio, Rachele and Pedlar in.

From a trade perspective, I’d argue we could improve in:
Inside mid
Outside mid
Small/medium forward (with Shane leaving and Rash/Peds hopefully becoming mids)
Backup KPD (from a pure depth perspective)

Maybe not ‘desperate need’, but we’re still lacking in a few areas IMO

So far we've been linked to

Chris Burgess (Gold Coast)
Nathan Krueger (Collingwood)

Is there any other names because those are the only two I've heard reportedly that we are interested in.

Where have we been linked to Nathan ?

Had not heard that one

Our plan B is to front load current players contracts,
And then use the war chest for next year.
Rinse and repeat next year
Gonna need it to lure Brennan Cox home.

2 depth players for the sanfl, kind of sad.
I'd be preferring to giving Burgess or Kreuger a 1-2 year deal than tying up BZT for 3 to 4 years. We have 2 needs currently, best 22 and short term depth to cover some injuries. You don't want to give up too much draft capital to achieve the 1st and the 2nd if you can't do through trade then you hit the draft to do it.

Wha??? - why would we throw the big contract at Cox when we could be going after Phillipou? who serves a greater need for us

Phillipou isn't a free agent. Cox, Murray, Worrell and Hinge would be a hell of group to have down back as well.
I understand that, but he will be OOC end of next year and so what if we had to pay draft collateral as well as a pay day..If he is that projected A grade mid we hanker for to round out our midfield then I am selling the farm pickwise if needs be

Might even be able to afford both, but Cox will take a big deal as he will be in demand across the league. I'm not 100% convinced Phillipou turns into a star midfielder, but plenty of time to be proven wrong there.

Yes, but is he? He didn't get a kick in a final: not a good sign.

I have no issues with Murphy. I rate him in the 23-28 player on our list. With injuries he will get a first 22 posi most weeks.
I agree. Absolutely 23-28.
You cannot question his endeavour and, from my seat, very close to the fence at AO, I've seen lots of tough inside work from him, especially holding up opposition plays with clever tricks.
I will never, however, accept his posing for free kicks, even when they lead to showdown wins after the siren.
He is the perfect example of the player that makes up the "best worst six" in your team that takes you to a flag - the worst six that Port wish they had, that continually let them down in big games.

You would think if Doedee was going to sign our contract, that he would have by now.
Looks like he will take the Brisbane offer.
So with him and McAdam going, we end up with 4 x 2nd round picks
I just hope we are gunning for GCS pick 4
The other pick that is likely to be put up for sale is pick 10 - currently the dogs pick but they are keen to get pick 4 so GC may then auction off pick 10 which they get as part of that trade with the dogs

So GC might look at pick 20, another 2nd and maybe a F2 with an F3 coming back for that pick 10 - gives us 9 & 10 and the GC pick (if we take 3 picks to the draft) and we could then look at trading any surplus picks into next year
