Had a quick look back, and trades not getting done after a request is actually a surprisingly rare scenario across the league. However, there does seem to be one club this happens regularly with. No surprises who ...
  • Essendon got Bobby Hill to commit to them. Couldnt do the deal. He goes to Collingwood the following year
  • Essendon got Josh Dunkley to commit to them. Couldnt do the deal. He goes to Brisbane the following year
  • Essendon refuse to trade Joe Daniher after he requests out. He stays one more year, then walks to Brisbane
  • Essendon refuse to trade Orazio Fantasia after he requests out. He gets traded to Port right on the deadline 12 months later
  • The Shiel trade got done, but only after Essendon was forced into mediation and Dodo was overruled internally in the last few hours of the trade period
  • Pretty sure the Ryder trade to Port in 2014, and the Crameri trade to the Dogs in 2013, also went to mediation too
  • Back in the day Essendon also got Josh Caddy to commit to them but couldnt do a deal with GC. He went to Geelong the following year
As soon as Jade nominated Essendon, the club had to know Dodoro would be an A grade F**KWIT and there was a decent chance this would all fall over. Will be interesting to see what contingencies we may have planned

Eye opening post mate.

So the out of contract players are:

Gresham
Coffield
McKenzie
Campbell
Highmore
McLennan

First two are most likely gone but it seems like we might be holding onto Campbell and possibly Highmore? McKenzie is a coin flip by the sounds of things. I would think McLennan gets another year too. That might be it unless Billings is traded.

Hearing my team has some ‘mild interest’ in Billings. Can I humbly request some intel?

I see he’s played very few seniors games over the last few years, is this due to injury or form?

If injury, is it something recurring or always something different?

What’s his best like these days, and when was the last time you saw it?

If you watch a bit of Collingwood, do you think he’d potentially add any value?

Sorry, a lot of questions to ask I know. All the best for the trade period and beyond.
Oh my god, a Pies fan! Remember the time we beat you in a grand final in 1966?! Hahaha, seeya mate. Best go take care of that burn!

The issue we were always going to run into with Gresh is he has been so poor this year and has also battled injuries for a few years. He just isn't worth that much if there isn't some kicker like the Shiel deal was going to provide.

He obviously isn't getting the big contract he was hoping for.

Shithouse club. Any other list boss would be sacked

Is his best pretty good? Or one of those who never quite reached potential?
His best position is as a half forward , but hardly ever played there - tried to make him a wingman and from there he performed but was average.
Best season was 2017 as a half forward kicked 23.36 and was in the running for a All Australian spot if the points and goals could of been reversed.
He has been a solid player just misfortune has caused the lack of games the last 2 yrs.
Hamstring , broken right fibula , fractured thumb.
When right and at his best he is a useful player - but another whipping boy who was a pick 3 and because he never lived up to the hype , never lived down being selected before Bont.
I would keep him because at worst he is depth.

Ooof yeah that goals to points ratio is troubling. Must be a mental thing right given his otherwise top notch foot-skills?

This is a guy celebrated profusely by the AFL's own media department. He should have been de-registered and moved on years ago, between him and Bell the entire comp are hostage every trade period holding up and sometimes denying a bunch of other players the chance to move. Freo & Ess should be made to finish their trades a day or two earlier than the other 16 clubs.

The proof is in the pudding, 7000 days for the dons under Dodoros elite list management and freo could cobble together a flag contender just with players who have been low-balled and walked out.

Reality check that the players we want to shop around or trade are not worth jack s**t on the open market. Other clubs are only coming if they can get them for a throw away pick.

Not to mention the overpaid contracts of Billings and Howard probably mean we keep them both.

I still live in hope we can improve our draft hand....
we’ll get saved from ourselves by staying out of this draft.
and cut some dead weight.

On the run is fine, his set shot routine is core issue where he pulls it narrow side usually so for me it was more Motlop and not wanting to be "that guy" taking those shots but is more than happy to be that guy in general play.

If a Gresh that the Bombers want is a crossbody kick 9/10 times and can't do a drop punt to save himself, then Billings set shot is akin to he tries to knee himself in the face, so gets too far under the ball far too often on a set shot so pushes/pulls it a lot depending on what foot he used. But he can kick a drop punt and is generally a nice enough disposer of the ball in general.

"Current" problem is that mentally, he sees himself as a forward, so unless he changes that mindset him in the backline will be poor.

Just have them work with each other, one can bleat about how no player wants to be there and how they should be able to jerk around whomever they want and the other can try his hand and hand over the multiple journo contacts he has on speed dial for those that seek relevance.

A bromance then blossoms and everyone else doesn't have to hear or see them for the rest of the trade period.

What does Dodo do all week? Hasn’t spoken with Port, says he hasn’t discussed Gresh with StK. Golfing?
Marvel did have that garbage Stadium Golf thing not too long ago. Probably told the staff to leave the holes alone, he'll bring his own clubs and balls (of course)
