Doesn't change the fact he has a bit of FIGJAM about him. He has been overpaid for years.

Trying to squeeze an extra $100k a year after tax wouldn't move the needle for him that much.

Fancy wanting to go to the Bombers of all places.
Billings is too soft, Steele is too quiet, Gresham is too cocky… tough crowd.

Agree. Without wanting to defend Dumbfo, there is clearly more going on here in the background. I don’t understand the criticism that they should just pay $800k guaranteed. Would we want to do that?

But they have worked on Gresham. Convinced him to go there. Convinced him to publicly nominate Essendon as his club of choice.

At some point there is corporate responsibility to get the deal done for the player, rather than leaving him high and dry because they haven’t planned for other contingencies.

The failed Dunkley trade is exhibit-A. A shocking look for that club and humiliated Dunkley, who stuck his neck on the block by nominating Essendon as a contracted player.

Essendon knew the Bulldogs would demand 2 x 1st RDPs. Bulldogs were transparent from day one what they wanted. But Essendon refused to pay-up. Dunkley was abandoned and had to awkwardly return back to the Bulldogs.

It almost happened to Dylan Shiel in 2018. GWS wanted 2 x 1st RDPs but Dodoro refused to do it, even though Shiel nominated Essendon as his club of choice.

In the dying hours of that trade period Dan Richardson (Dodoro’s boss) pulled the trigger and sidelined Dodoro. Richardson got it done (trading 2 x 1st RDPs) because a club commitment was made to the player.

Sometimes clubs have a moral obligation to get deals done for players that publicly nominate them for trade. They take a personal risk in doing so.

For his own sake, he needs a fresh start.
If we rated him I’d think any problems could be easily fixed, clearly we don’t so that’s probably true. Trade period is already following a fairly predictable course for us. Without trading required players we were never going to be big players imo.

Shiel and Dunkley were clearly worth two first round picks in that instance. Gresham's worth in a trade is a bit harder to parcel out.

That and Duursma nominating them you'd think... 4 established players coming in, with 2 combining for close to $1.5m between them in Gresham and McKay. Doesn't leave much war chest
You would think adding Duursma means they will also need to ship out Shiel even more, maybe just working out the maths as we speak..

I wonder what the offer was 🤣🤣 essendon and if it was that lousy why does Gresham still want out ?
It wouldn't have been less than he was on but it was probably a LOT less than what his agent told him he'd get. Goes to show the quality of the player really. Wanted to be overpaid and we said no, went to Essendon and couldn't get the deal he wanted, now we will give him what we think he's worth.

He's just not a very good player.

Just heard from the Trainee Receptionist.

Apparently Sos is really busy and doesn't want to be interrupted.
She's been told that when Dodoro calls.
1: Ask for details of the latest proposed deal.
2: Put him on hold for 25 minutes.
3: Tell him that Sos said we'll match that.

Personally I think you only need to satisfy the player, the other club in this case st Kilda has the right to match. I’m certainly not paying overs for Gresham if I’m essendon. I have no doubt this had more moving parts originally and we’re just as likely to have changed our position as them.
I think your missing the point, Gresh manager talks to Ess they agree to a wage which Gresh wants and agrees to go there that should be end of negotiating so what happened either Gresh wants more then he asked for or Ess down graded his $$$ it should be black & white no more talk.

So now Gresh is in limbo cause Ess have changed the deal.

The good news here is history suggests that the players essendon aggressively recruit before completely cocking up the actual acquisition process in a very public and embarrassing matter tend to kick up a level or two and become genuine superstars after the bombers farcical display is over

Dunkley
Daniher
Hill etc

Wonder if half of Gresham's problem is his agent.
