They have Jefferson and Van Rooyen who both are progressing to be above average. Petty is now a KPF too and he seems to have lost interest in a trade. I think a KP defender would be more pressing but wings and rebound HBs are a bit thin.
Jefferson hasn't played a game and Petty is not the answer. JVR looks ok and is developing nicely, but I still feel as though no one would criticise the Dees too heavily if they took a KPF at whatever pick they trade for (9 or 11)

Looked lazy as **** in the Champs. I think the questions around his size compared to peers is also valid. I don't mind confidence as long as it's couple with work rate.
Don't know if this is an excuse, but someone mentioned his coach was saying he was sick over the champs.
If that was so would account for the fact that he looked pretty good in the Final then in the first half, then completely drifted out in the second half. May have been gassed.

One thing for sure, if he comes to the Saints he will get fit and will need to run all day. Lyon wont tolerate lazy on field.

On top of the alleged sickness/flu, who would we even take over Smillie? He's the one guy with attributes that are unique to the rest of our midfield.

Reid is the same as Clark/Windy and some recruiters don't even see him as a mid. Lindsay I'm assuming goes at pick 8. Travaglia is the other option but Smillie is clearly a level above him imo. Same for Bo Allan. Hotton is a massive reach at that point coming off an ACL, while Hynes would also be a reach. The rest of the top group are half backs or kpps

Agree with this. Smillie and Lindsay would be a great get with 7 and 8.

Might just be an anomaly, but I find it interesting that Jagga Smith is no longer mentioned with the top crop and has instead been replaced by Harvey Langford

We all know Cal has all the inside gossip on the draft rankings of list managers...maybe the Eagles are keen on Langford?

Then all we need is for Melbourne to take Murphy Reid/Harry Armstrong

Missing out on Travaglia or Lindsay in order to ensure we grab one of the best available 4 is such a goddam no brainer.

All good hoping for Smilie or maybe Langford to slide at 7 if that’s who we really want but we’re not getting 2 sliders.

There is no one in this group that would begrudge us walking away with one of FOS, Lalor, Draper or Smith by using 7,8 to move up. We would get an early second back anyway who is odds on to be just as good as the would be no 8.

Come the **** on people.. before the blues slip in before us..!

Except we could easily get 2 sliders if Tauru (highly likely) and Armstrong/Reid (maybe) get taken ahead of us

I don’t want a slider. I want one of the rolled golds.

Plenty of water to go under the bridge yet. Pick swaps continue right till the draft, where you can also pick swap.

Really like this post. It shows that he has a lot to work on mentally. This is where a good AFL program comes to the fore. You hear 'experts' all the time saying player X has been in the AFL system or environment for X number of years and is really maturing and knowing his own game etc.

I would imagine there would be quite a few FIGJAM's coming out of the top ten. They get a nasty wake up call first preseason. We are friends with Jack Newnes family and his mother told us his first preseason absolutely exhausted him and all he could do was come home and sleep.

Smillie has been able to cruise a bit because of his size in the u18's. That would be natural, it is a real challenge though once they come up against a hard bodied AFL man. Our last FIGJAM, Pou, was absolutely torched in the final against GWS by Tom Green. I would watch Green lean on Pou at the centre bounce and a slight push and he had three metres on him. Was a great lesson for Pou who ten had to swallow his ego, go back to the VFL for an extended period and come back looking like the player we wanted in the AFL.

Smillie was mouthing all the right words on TR yesterday, wants to work on his game, be more team oriented etc. It is up to our recruiters to take his physical and mental attributes into account and decide if they can work with this raw material.
You want a touch of FIGJAM in your elite types. Not too much, though. Pou is a good example.

Like Professor Weirdo and his creation, Milton the Monster, when it came to using a "tincture of tenderness, I must only use a touch, for without a tincture of tenderness, he might destroy me, whoops too much!" And we all know how that ended! All things in moderation.

Nas, Pou and Wilson were all sliders. Which one of them do you want to hand back?

We’ve been really fortunate, no doubt. However, that is not going to keep happening, especially since we’ve let the guy go who made those calls.

It’s now time to take the opportunity to actually play it safe and draft ourselves a superstar. As I’ve previously detailed in this group, they come from the top 5 in the national draft 70-80% of the time.

This is our chance.

The guy who made those calls also tried to trade up for Tsatas. Reality is it can go either way and the top 4 are only just a whisker ahead of the next 4. Given our position we could very probably grab a top 4 pick if we wanted it, so if we don't the talant assessment is that 7&8 are a better thing.

I didn't realise his father was Nigerian, if his nickname isn't the Prince then we clearly aren't trying hard enough.

Funnily enough, I knew a Nigerian lady who had royal blood and apparently it's very common. Many Nigerians can trace their history back to royalty... who would've thought hey

Surely it should be “King” (Old that is) ?

We might win the attitude premiership! Seriously though, Smillie is our best option of the ones likely to fall to our pick 7. Langford would be okay but Phillipou plays his role.

I'm looking for all possible issues because heaps of players fail in the first round and it's usually attitude over talent.

Depends who is available. A lot is going to come down to how the draft falls and picking the scraps.

Toce’s approach in this moment was spot on and the opposition club refusing was also the right call. This is exactly what I mean by fortunate. This is an exception, not the rule.

O’Sullivan, Smith, Lalor, Draper are four bankable, highly suitable (to our list needs) players and we are a whisker away from access. None of those four get to our natural pick.

The sliders like Smilie, maybe Langford, probably Reid at 7 are less suitable options and require some luck.

At no.8 we may have access to a 2nd slider sure but likely back to the flankers Travaglia, Lindsay etc.

I just can’t get excited about that no 8 pick, in fact I’m more excited about some of the players in the late first, early second round who could be just as good.

We can get one of the top 4 picks easily with our hand and absolutely should, making sure we pick up an extra mid 20s pick. Try for Ess pick 9 for F1 and 27

What makes the 4 you listed "bankable" and the others not?
