It's no different to last year... if the Giants (or anyone else) really want to get into the top 10 to get someone they covet then they pay up. That may well be 16 & 21 or it might be something juicier for us. They've shown that they're happy to pay overs to get their man.

Satan wasn't a recruiter. He was footy dept head then CEO.

I'm not that fussed about mids at 7 and 8 unless an early Xmas miracle sees two of the top rated mids fall to us.

We definitely need to take one at #7 though.

Yes go back over the 2019 draft and you will see what not to do.

Started with Pick 6 and a few other solid picks.

Walked out the door with only one recruit in the 2019 AFL draft - Ryan Byrnes at pick 52.

You wonder why I get nervous when we discuss pick dilution.

We also walked out with 4 players who were still in our best 22 five years later.

And none of the people who made those calls remain at the club.

Turned pick 6 (F. McCasey)
Into Brad hill, paddy ryder, dougal howard, zac jones and Dan Butler.
Not a bad outcome IMO

Aren’t 4 of the players still on the list from those trades + Byrnes?

Hardly one to get pissy over.

Do you think we are only a chance of getting him if Adelaide swaps picks with North? Or are there some rumblings that he has back problems?
The player who is really hard to place right now is Jagga.

Do Carlton rate Jagga over FOS+ Draper?

Does Adelaide rate FOS over Jagga + Draper?

If Jagga goes at either pick… I think we are in with a shot at Draper.

Wow if that's the bar you are setting, just to be still on our list.

I'd rather Acres back, plus the picks we gave away with him

I'd also take back pick 6 and get an 2 x All Australian in Serong.

This was not a good move to dilute such a high pick. This is not a road I'd like to take again.

You can’t hindsight say take serong,
We needed a fullback at the time and got Doog, if we didn’t get Doog as part of those trades we probably definitely take mcasey at 6 just as Adelaide did

We also broomed out starting 22 players in Bruce and Newness. Who went on to have decent careers at other clubs.

The 2019 was a decent cull of the list which bears similarities to this season and was the last time we diluted such a high pick.

Let's hope we nail this draft.

You really think other clubs will do a trade in our favour, they will only do it if it suits them.

it's hardly taking pot shots when you wish the club to keep its high picks and go for the best talent available.

We have done the dilute picks thing before and it just didn't work out.

The other issue I had was doing everything possible to keep Battle.

Because of the megaminds at the club at the time, we diluted picks in a draft where it dropped right off before our later picks.
This ain't that draft.

If other clubs wanted a tall forward and Armstrong was still there for example, they might be happy to drop picks that would net us the likes of Lindsay , Allan or Gross.
You'd be brave to say that Travaglia ( for example ) was more likely to be a gun than any two of that trio.

Why do all these mocks have us taking Travaglia st 8?

Give me Murphy Reid anyday over Travaglia

and none of those players are taking/took us to a serious finals side
Just wasted years of nothing

I'd rather us take Chris Judd over Luke Ball but my Delorean is out of gas.

St Kilda’s got a massive chance to shake things up in the 2024 AFL Draft with picks 7 and 8. Do they hold and select BEST available midfielders, do they split pick 8 to get two later picks and back in drafting some sliding gems?

It's going to be a huge first night on November 20.

i really love Langford and we aren't taking Travaglia if Reid is still there
this is why I'm keen on keeping 7&8
We could have a combo of Reid - Langford - Draper - Smillie to pick from any of those 2 and we are going places imo

Travaglia is a very promising looking player, but he’d be a bad selection at #8.

We do not need HBFs. Sincs and Nas will lead us in 2025 and beyond, so I don’t see how Travaglia is getting much game time (which would also be crucial if we want him to play midfield time at some point).

Recruiting TT in my view would basically be 1) injury cover at best / potentially adding an imbalance if we were to play TT Nas and Sincs and 2) also a pretty strong indication we’ve either given up on Hastie after only a year and/or that NWM is going to go back to SA after next year.

What is the obsession with picking someone like TT who could, maybe one day, hopefully, if we ask nicely, turn into a midfielder? Why not just pick a proven underage midfielder??
I think a little bit of out of site out of mind. TT is one of the mst competitive in the draft and played at his best in the most important games. His champs were amazing. You are looking at attributes not just if he's played mifield before.

It is about picking best available, best recent example is Naz. We picked Naz because he was best available, he wasn;t a traditional mid. What is the obsession with picking a mid at the expense of potentially missing a better player.
