As a fellow track watcher, I may get more personal info from actually watching players but am still an absolute amateur like everyone here.
Everyone wants a genuine mid when the coach wants two way running transition. Macrae will help at the centre, and he, Steele and Clark are absolute ball pigs at stoppages.
Get it to the outside and we can outrin any team.

Clark is hardly a 'ball pig'

Don't agree with the 'draft based on the game plan' model. What happens post-Lyon ? We have a new coach who comes in and wants to play a different way (higher emphasis on contested ball) and has a team full of outside runners..
You haven’t watched the tape.
Neither of these boys are soft.
Love the contest.

The only gymnastics is you
throwing your toys out of the cot last night.
Always said there were plenty of mids but was settled weeks ago there we 6 top mids then the likes of Lindsay, Reid, Hotton, Travaglia etc.

Nice try champ. Go back crying into your beer sweet cheeks.

The only person throwing toys out the cot was you I’m afraid. Saw a lot of your histrionics and straw man arguments

Still waiting for you to point out all the posts shit canning TT you were stomping your feet about yesterday.

Accountability not big character trait for you I see.

Ough is the same size as Smilie, but a full seven month younger than him, younger than Tauru and Travaglia, and only 3 days older than Levi Ashcroft…

Pulled a handy 21 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles, and 5 clearances up against the stacked Sandy midfield in the CTL Grand Final, despite a head knock in the third quarter.

I’d be delighted with him.

Edit: Just FWIW, was in the Vic Country side with Trav and the Viking too…

I'm sold BUT only on the caveat that his nickname is Lantern.

Timer has started on SOS, Pick 3 was there for the taking we could have had Jagga Smith. They didn't want to up there offer to include a F2 like Carlton did. They played it safe, you have to have balls and go bold in this business. Played it safe and didn't want to 'overpay' well lets see then I think they were wrong to do that, time will tell.

Never said they were soft mate, again happy with them both but I think we played it safe. Trav is an outside runner right now, I've seen his contested work it's okay but let's not pretend he is up there with Jagga Smith in the contest.

It's hard to not be a little flat after last night, when the seven best mids in the draft were all gone by the time our picks came.

In the end, I think we've gone best available and both kids looks very promising.

But neither help fill the void in our midfield.

I'm pretty excited to see what Tauru brings to the table though, he could be an absolute star of the comp.

We may never know what actual offers and opportunities there were. SOS loves to pull the trigger, so I'm guessing the deals were rubbish for us otherwise we would've done them.

Wasn't trying to be patronising, however I have seen lists where everyone is a mid in the top 15 except the Saints like putting a label on a player makes them
1. An actual mid
2. Somehow better than the two players we selected.
So as I said I have seen Travaglia described as a mid on both the AFL app and Fox Footy. So is he a mid or not? And if not are any of the other on that list as a mid a mid or not?
Personally I don't think he is a pure mid yet, but to suggest as some have we should have taken a mid the recruiting team deemed to be a lesser talent than the two we selected is a very weird take.

Would have loved 2 of the top 6, I don't think anyone disagrees, but to somehow bash the club because they were unavailable and didn't take mids the club thought were lesser talents is a curious position to have in my view ( that is not pointed at you directly btw).

There are only so many midfield spots for the champs rep teams. A lot of mids get sent to flanks to fit in the side. Sometimes it means there is less exposed player or even an unexposed player like Garcia or Peckett that slips through.

Travaglia looks pretty good regardless. Worst case we have to play him in Sincs spot once he retires.

So which clubs hoarding 3rd and 4th rounders they don't need can we trade a future pick to?

Brisbane have 3 x 3rd rounders and 2 x 4th rounders, a future 3rd rounder for picks 45 and 56?

Have had a gander at some of the suggestions in here and some of the later draft options and seems like there are still some highly rated juniors who didn't excel this year or bolters. Moraes, Gross, Boxshall, Shanahan, Ivisic, Ough all look more than decent prospects from the randoms clips I've watched.

Next year when we still have FRDP I think people will be happy. All of this crop look good but all have question marks. Jagga is a bit low hurt factor, Smilie looks like he might be a big kid pushing smaller ones around, Langford is slow, Lalor might be more forward than mid etc. I think we have a bit of a mix of high potential and safe. Travaglia looks safe as houses with potentially a little lower ceiling, Tauru is raw but could genuinely be he best player in the comp type.

Would love to jump back in but I think the club will stick with what we have:

Grab BA with the next pick, wait for bids on Cole & Hoffman, grab Elwood as a rookie.

We might trade back in to snap up a ruck later on but if we are legitimately the only team looking at Boyd then we probably just wait and grab him in the rookie draft too.

If Crouch retires after being reselected then we might have a pre season training invite but gut feel is we probably hold until the MSD.

Even if our pick tonight is another tall (Shanahan) it doesn't mean panic stations on the midfield. Ough, Boxshall, Gross etc shouldn't be expected to be the difference in our team.

It's how we develop the likes of Dow, Carroll, Pou, Windy, Owens, Wilson, Henry etc

Perfectly acceptable view point right now.

Mission on Monday saying we want mids.

Steele pre draft last night saying he wants a mid next to him next year.

We didn’t do that.

Nothing to do with the players selected. Face value the club was clear this week alone what it wanted.
Yeah they did state we needed mids but not any cost. If one of the “elite” midfielders were available at our pick then we would’ve selected them. Unfortunately that didn’t transpire so we selected the best available which was the correct decision when you have top 10 selections

So what are you supposed to draft for? The game plan for the next coach that comes in?

F*** me dead there is some ridiculous chat on here :tearsofjoy: These overreactions are hilarious.

Three of the top four in our 2024 B+F weren't selected in the AFL National Draft. Sixth, seventh and 10th were traded in also.

Point is that the National Draft is not the be all or end all.

When a new coach takes over from Lyon, there will be a transition period as with every new coach but it's comical to be concerned about that. Couple of trades, couple of rookies and couple of draft picks and a list can be flicked on its head.

If Dodson falls to our pick.

Does that change the situation much?
