I’m pretty happy/unhappy.
Then again, I was unhappy as I watched Roo toil away in the twos for most of his first year, what a major **** up I thought at the time 🤦‍♂️

His first year comprised of 6 underwhelming games, where he averaged 7.2 kicks, 2.3 handballs, and 4.3 marks per game.

By the way, nice tatt on the Viking!

Well, we allowed Melbourne to trade for Essendonxs pick 9 and then Carlton to trade for WCE's pick 3 - two trades we should have been pro active in early.

My optimistic view is that our list bosses didn’t see the top 6 mids as different enough from the lower tiers, and certainly the fact that the tp 10 was far from a lock with Phantom Drafts being wildly different seems to support that.

However, I suspect SOS & Co were just not sharp enough or too rigid in their game.

Last sentence is spot on, anyway whats done is done. Wishing all the best for Trav and then Viking now.

Very much appreciate a reasoned and valid counter point. Wasn't aware of Berry playing mid towards the back end of the year. Stats would be interesting to have a look at.

I agree that one of the big points regarding mids in the first round was just how far Reid slid back.
Not sure how to find individual game stats for CTL games best I can offer is the Rookie-me write up on his midfield traits

Barring his goalkicking exploits, perhaps the most impressive part of Berry's season was his ability to pinch-hit in midfield. He did so with more frequency as the year wore on, enjoying some high production games in the back-end of the season, but seems best served to rolling on-ball in spurts to inject a bit of life into the contest. He did so most notoriously during the National Championships decider.

Berry's smarts and clean hands saw him navigate out of stoppages with great efficiency, leaning on a sharp turn of speed to come away untouched - much like he would to craft a snap on goal. He also has the work rate to play as a high forward or rotating midfielder, covering good ground and utilising his skills on the way back to goal. Add good defensive pressure, and Berry presents a well-rounded game.

He still has a way to go in perfecting his midfield craft, particularly as a smaller type. Once he can add some size to tackle harder and shake opposition attention, then he may be able to consistently rack up over 20 disposals - he only did so twice for Murray this year. Four-quarter consistency is another factor that will boost Berry's production, as he will often impact games in damaging bursts, and mostly with his scores

I'm feeling very strongly to use all of our futures on this draft.

..that way I dont have to sit through this again next year

Go for it SOS

Cue the Sex Pistols NO FUTURE!
It's all NGAs and fathersons anyway and we will win the premiership so our first pick would be pick 45 anyway.

Let's trade our future first pick (45) for 28 this year.

I'm not upset...I'm just bemused. I know we went for best available, it makes sense, I get it. However I think all of us would've liked to have nabbed at least one of the first round mids.
It just seems a bit meh, considering the hype of the draft and what we so clearly and desperately need.
At least we're not North...so there's that.
Yes I work with a North supporter so be thankful we’re not at that level of suffering

So I mentioned on the draft rumours thread on the D&T board that we offered up our F1 to get Berry, and someone replied with this:

“Heard today from a source I can't name who was in the Saints room ...you were doing the deal, literally on the phone, with GWS(?) to pick up Berry and Port jumped in and took him.

You also had Tauru at 3 on your board, for what it's worth........thought that was interesting”
