Neither of our boys were taken earlier than expected.

If we didn’t select them then they’re well & truly gone in the next few picks.

You seemed to have gotten confused somewhere along the way, the original point I made was that we were looking to trade back into the top 20 for a small forward not a midfielder which I thought said a lot given the messaging from the club all year.

He played in the backline more from memory. Even at the Stingrays played a heap of footy off the back flank.
Hunter’s form late in this season mirrored the team’s impressive late season performances…hopefully Zac Jones doesn’t polax him at training again & HC has a good run at it!

The fact Travaglia was getting targeted by clubs as far back as GWS probably says it wasn’t just Game plan focused
That’s why I didn’t say “just game plan related”. The club said it anyway, so I suppose you don’t have to care what I think.

Anyone up for trading F1 for Shanahan?
I was considering the possibility that if we were really keen on him, or Jacklock (or Dodson), that we could offer our F1 for 28, and if that was accepted, and we don’t have the list space for another outside of our NGA’s, we could then potentially auction off 32 for a team like Geelong’s F1.

So we move up 4 spots this year and probably back a number of spots next year.

We’d have to be pretty keen on someone though, given how much other clubs may be offering for these picks.

I really like him & think he’s the best key forward in the draft…can also play back!
I’ve got a sneaky feeling Essendon will trade up to nab him
I'd have no problem if we did it.
For all the carry on about North last night, I'd be just as happy to do it for Shannas...probably a top 15 pick in any year. Get him in!

Perfectly acceptable view point right now.

Mission on Monday saying we want mids.

Steele pre draft last night saying he wants a mid next to him next year.

We didn’t do that.

Nothing to do with the players selected. Face value the club was clear this week alone what it wanted.
Or we really wanted Tauru to slide, and bluffed everyone ahead of us into taking all the mids :D

Why can't you trade the same picks back? Is that actually a rule?
9.7(a) of the AFL Rules: A Club may exchange a Draft selection which it has received from another Club, provided that the selection is not traded directly back to that Club.

So it can go Club A -> Club B -> Club C -> back to Club A. But can't go directly from A -> B -> A

Or take both this year.
I'm sick of biding my time.
Shanahan and Moraes/ Boxcutter

Suspect we saw midfield potential in Berry as well as the forward skills, he like Travaglia played mid in the back half of the year as did Dattoli and Hannaford. More interesting is we saw more in Berry than Murphy Reid he really wasn’t on our wish list. I could see midfield potential in Berry but Port more likely see him as a forward. Ultimately that’s what the professionals are paid to see.

I’d begetting into Murphy Reid’s ear. He and his family did not look ecstatic that he has to move to Perth.

Freo have a few like Simpson and Erasmus that we should also sniff around.

Very much appreciate a reasoned and valid counter point. Wasn't aware of Berry playing mid towards the back end of the year. Stats would be interesting to have a look at.

I agree that one of the big points regarding mids in the first round was just how far Reid slid back.

Alright I’ve had 24 hours to ponder and get on board.

Initially when Twomey’s phantom came out I wasn’t too thrilled and was hoping that Draper would slide, however I’m all on board now and can really see that Tauru in particular could be anything. Flies for all marks, reads the play well, and perhaps still growing aswell.

Travalgia has that competitiveness that you see in Garcia. You can’t teach that.

Anyways I’m feeling more pumped and excited about tonight than I was leading up to last night.

I’m hoping that we pluck another one out of nowhere like Garcia where everybody says who the heck is that. Or like Schoey where he slipped so far down the order.

I love when we draft the least expected types.

Go saints ! 🔴⚪️⚫️
Great to see that Twomey was spot on, Makes all the other key board warrious look stupid. Looks like we were never going to spit a pick.

Gross was in top 10 calculations in pre-season. Then got played out of position all year and fell down the draft order. Not saying if he played midfield he'd be a top 10 pick, but there's a lot of talent to work with for a club that is willing to play him in his natural position

Moraes was also in top 10 contention pre-season but his kicking really let him down this season. I feel like we already have plenty of outside runners but if we see him as a future inside mid then I'm all for it. Reminds me of a forward half Tsatas

Boxshall is just an all round athlete and, as has been said multiple times in here already, is the perfect player for the RTB system. 188cm is a great size for a player as athletic as he is. Lacks a bit in the speed department but still plenty of upside to work with and would be a great successor to Steele

Whitlock/Shanahan/Dodson also fantastic options and probably best available - I wonder if we trade a F2 or something to get one of these sliders because it seems highly likely we might have another Archie Roberts situation this year
