Just a genuine query every non Saints person media or otherwise seems to presume SOS is making the calls at St Kilda I am assuming that is not the case and it is Dalrymple on draft night. Gubby is focused on trades and AFL listed players Mission is their ultimate boss so what exactly is SOS doing in that team. Anyone know? Is he managing the contracts?

Alright I’ve had 24 hours to ponder and get on board.

Initially when Twomey’s phantom came out I wasn’t too thrilled and was hoping that Draper would slide, however I’m all on board now and can really see that Tauru in particular could be anything. Flies for all marks, reads the play well, and perhaps still growing aswell.

Travalgia has that competitiveness that you see in Garcia. You can’t teach that.

Anyways I’m feeling more pumped and excited about tonight than I was leading up to last night.

I’m hoping that we pluck another one out of nowhere like Garcia where everybody says who the heck is that. Or like Schoey where he slipped so far down the order.

I love when we draft the least expected types.

Go saints ! 🔴⚪️⚫️

Honestly, for me the only thing that is open for discussion if whether we should have intentionally dropped the Carlton game. (I'm not talking the stupidity of blaming Higgins for his kick). It's fair enough to have an opinion either way on that, but with the way things fell, once all the top mids were taken, it would have been insane to pass up talent for position.
Might be my copium speaking, but I genuinely do not believe the AFL secret herbs and spices would've allowed us band 1 for Battle if our ladder position had us at pick 4 or 5 (if we lost that game). Maybe just maybe, that Higgins goal might have got us an extra first round pick??!

Great post and interesting stat. Tauru just a baby and what a huge improvement year on year.
Did you see Tauru's mum?

Not quite at the level of Goober's Mum but she had a fair bit of size about her .... pretty chunky .... which might bode well for Alix to really bulk up in a good way

Kid could be an absolute beast once he puts on some proper muscle

I’d also argue that given last nights outcome we went early on delisting Hotton

If the rumors about his family getting their backs up over his development are to be believed, then we probably didnt... Tigers might grab him as a stablemate for his brother, but he wasn't going to be a difference maker for us.

I read on here he's training with West Coast

That is understood, however there were 6 recognised top mids that you could throw a blanket over.
They were all gone by our first pick.
It has been reported that we offered pick 7 and F1 for 2 to North but they obviously wanted to burn their F1 for pick 27 instead .
How do you deal with abject morons like that?
Seems as though there were no other takers below us, and as it turns out nobody wanted 8 for two mid teen picks.
Nobody was trading picks and has been reported that North offered every team from us at pick 8 onwards until Richmond fell over laughing at the end of round 1.

So while it is understandable to lament, the frustration from others with this is that you might as well complain we didn't get Harley Reid and Zac Butters in last night's draft.
You can't draft what isn't there.

Well, we allowed Melbourne to trade for Essendonxs pick 9 and then Carlton to trade for WCE's pick 3 - two trades we should have been pro active in early.

My optimistic view is that our list bosses didn’t see the top 6 mids as different enough from the lower tiers, and certainly the fact that the tp 10 was far from a lock with Phantom Drafts being wildly different seems to support that.

However, I suspect SOS & Co were just not sharp enough or too rigid in their game.

The more I watch of Travaglia, the more I see him as a project player. He's got the toughness, quick decision making, and hand skills to be an in and under mid. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him at all this year and let him do an apprenticeship honing in those midfield skills and craft.

Yeah, rekon they were keen on Taj before the Tigers pounced. Brothers don't often get to play together but if his family are that involved them maybe they might try to push for it.

Be interesting to see what happens with Whitlock #2 tonight. Been some talk that North might try to get back in (using Richmond's F2nd) to pair them up. Richmond didn't want to give up the 1st pick tonight knowing that offers will come from multiple clubs.

I could see the Dogs grabbing Moraes and then moving their other pick into next year for the Tiger's 2nd.

I wouldn't mind Hamish Davis with our next pick

190cm who played WAFL seniors this year and managed 30 disposals in the Colts GF for Claremont and was BOG

Can go forward as well and kick goals

So a hybrid mid / forward

Got a good 2km time 6.18 ...Travaglia was 2nd at the state combine with 6.13

It also comes down to draft capital.

Melbourne had 2 second round picks and 3 third round picks.

We had 1 of each...

At worst he replaces Jimmy down back .... can play on short & medium talls and has dash to break lines

I believe so. I found this, when trying to find something to confirm. I feel ill about the Essendon link, but it's actually a very very good resource.

It explains it all the way down under Single Use Picks for the trade period section.

Not sure how complicated/convoluted it gets when it comes to new picks generated due to accepting bids though.
The intent of the rule is so if a club gets bid on at pick 8 and they have pick 10, they can't trade out pick 10, match the player at pick 8.

And then trade pick 10 back in for a future first/future second, with that same club.

Melbourne had 2 second round picks and 3 third round picks.

We had 1 of each...
And in Carlton’s case they gave up 2x1sts and a 30 goal small forward.

Would people really be happy if we had gave up Travaglia, Tauru and Higgins for little smith?
or Draper who rang up crows coach and asked to be drafted by them because he’d rather stay in Adelaide then move to the big smoke?

Point is that because it is so secretive, this type of speculation can continue and be seen as realistic.
Free NGA for Northern booster clubs, the Premier gets the best player in the land because of some arcane romanticism about Father Son, to keep players in their booster clubs they give them six figure somes for Ambassador payments outside the cap, and elect the head of football from a club she immediately grants free draft picks for purposely blowing up their list.
The AFL.is corrupt yo the core.

You are very bullish in Hall.
We didn’t get much of a look at him last year due to injury and new team development. I really like the look of him, it of a tough campaigner with good foot skills.
Hope you’re right.
How about some special focus on him in the track reports.
I think he’s a sleeper.
I’ll be focusing on the new guys plus the ones drafted a couple of years ago that are yet to make their mark!

Afternoon folks. Happy Draftmas. Love the Tauru pick, given who was left on the board, and he looks like he’s just starting to scratch the surface of what he’s capable of, and can play back, forward, or wing.

Has a fantastic athletic profile for someone that size and seems a very self-assured, confident young rooster, who will aim high. And if you’re going to aim somewhere, it may as well be at what you actually want to hit.

I don’t think too many people accidentally become the best. So he’ll give himself a shot at it at the very least. Even wants to play R1 next season and said the clubs that overlooked him will regret it!

Will be interesting to see where we play him initially. He’s probably too similar to Sharman to play them both forward, so he probably starts back.

As for Travaglia, he’s one that I wasn’t keen on for us throughout the year, as I don’t like the idea of paying a top 10 pick for a running HB (given it’s the easiest role to play on the field, and you can get guys like Sincs and Houston from the rookie draft, or Daniel/Dale types in the mid-40’s), but I think it’s safe to say that we didn’t recruit him to play HB long term. So only time will tell if he’s one of the “gun mids” we’re after.

If he is- like his mentor Will Day- then we’ve got a 190cm (he was taller than the 188cm Dicko last night) two-way midfield running machine, who is highly competitive, tackles a heap (11 tackles in two games this year and 9 in another), who takes the game on, and kicks goals.

Personally hoping we don’t try to rush him in straight away, and instead have him playing mostly midfield at Sandy as much as possible.

If we want to bring a young guy in off half back then make it Arie.

For our next pick, I would love to land one of Whitlock, Shanahan or Dodson.

Our tall stocks are still paper-thin and they’ve proven extremely difficult for clubs to acquire through trades or FA in recent years, and you don’t normally get tall guys of this quality this late in a draft.

Other clubs may be clamouring for those 3 though, so maybe they don’t last 5 more picks.

Haven’t addressed?
We’ve added a triple All Australian midfielder and a promising young mid in Carroll with picks still to come.
And one of the players we've drafted may allow Sincs to play in the guts full time or Nas to move further forward.
We just have to wait. Like every year. In every situation.
If it's all ****ed at round seven next year let's all have a grizzle. We'll have earned it.

True that. Hey it could be worse, Essendon drafted McGrath as a #1 pick and he’s playing back pocket.

But I reckon with Travalgia’s competitiveness and quick hands, they see him as a Chad Warner type midfielder that can play inside and then when required can put the jets on and burn his opponent off, run 15 metres and then kick it long.

Personally, I never want to see Sincs in the midfield again
