I don't know the unease about Allan if the most likely scenario of us keeping 7 and 8 occurs.
There will be a slider from the top 6 mids ( if Tauru is taken) so we get a Smillie or Draper.
Then we can take Allan as a bit of a risk.

Or if Tauru is there him and then pick 8 maybe Allan, Reid, Lindsay.

Or pick take someone pick 7 and then see who want Tauru.

Really anything above will be acceptable.

I would be happy to grab Tauru and 1 mid if North don't get him.

Looks bloody exciting.

I wonder how much scope for improvement the team are putting on Cole via the NGA? Is he a legitimate shot of being a Battle replacement sooner, rather than later?

If he's capable of coming in and playing the 3rd tall role straight away then it could really change what we plan on doing with 7+8.

On paper it's a longshot but I don't know that we expected Owens & Windy to walk into the team either...

It’s been suggested Cole is the next Dougal

Cole is not a third tall. He is a long-term Howard replacement. Fully lockdown as a full back

He does not have the kicking skills nor the overhead marking to play Battle's role at the moment. Unless there is significant improvement here, we will still need to find a replacement - hence why people like Trainor and Tauru here

We won't be replacing like for like but we need another tall defender and at some point in the season he might be the best option asking a lot and I doubt he gets first crack but may fall that way over the course of the season. He probably has more chance of holding an AFL level key forward than Trainor or Tauru might in year 1 given his athleticism and strength.

Going to be interesting vs the Dogs with Darcy Naughton and Jamarra how we cover them. Did not go well last time.

I'll give this a go if I may?

I am a Hunter Clark fan and think he has a point of difference in the midfield.

However the collision injuries he has sustained for the past three season has really affected his match fitness, no real preseason for the past two or three and as well all know a good pre season sets you up for the whole year.

He got back on the park and had an unbroken block of 11 straight games. Once relatively match fit he really started to become valuable. He is the best dual sided player I have seen since Leon Cameron although when he got back on the field he was playing inside mid so concentrated on his right. His combo with Steele and Dow and Jones (when they both got match fit) was a big part of our very good last two months of the season.

If you go back and watch the highlights you will see he did a lot of the in and under inside work and got the ball moving our way from the stoppage quite a lot. It was a real improvement and hope for the future.

So I disagree with your premis he hasn't panned out.

So for my second however though....

You can be a fan but can also recognise that he has some glaring deficiencies to work on.

No.1 is his fitness. Never the greatest athlete at the club (although before his injuries, preseason, he was about mid table in the time trials) his TOG is below what it should be for a mid. He needs a big preseason without injuries to get his fitness base up.
No.2 he got a good block of games at the end of the season but he can't rest on his laurels. He was playing inside mid, we just drafted a multiple AA inside mid in Jack Macrae, we have Phillipou developing, Wilson looking for a mid spot, same with Garcia and Windhager. We are likely to get two top ten mids this draft with at least one being an inside mids.

So pressure is on to finally perform as a no.7 dp or he will go the way of Seb Ross.

Oh and Reid reminds me more of Dal Santo than Hunter Clark.
I like Hunter too but his lazy kicking is really annoying…far too often has his kicks smothered
Having said that, I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet!

I appreciate the insight, fellas! Drafting Reid is sounding really positive now, but I still hope we get a big-bodied mid to pair up with him.

If we don't get Lalor, Smilie or Langford. As an alternative route I'm sort of hoping Owens can be that bull inside mid we need

I very much doubt that will ever happen. Owens just doesn't have it as a midfielder either in positioning or covering an opponent. He trains and plays forward for a reason.

Windhager, Phillipou, are the potential bull inside mids, and probably one or both of the top ten mids will be an inside bull like a Smillie or Allan. Then there is the current inside mids Macrae, Steele and Clark.

Allan returned for WA's match against South Australia in a 67-point victory over the Croweaters, recording 19 disposals, six tackles and five clearances in a role through midfield.

He would hold his place in the centre for the rest of the carnival to average 20.0 disposals, 3.7 clearances, 6.3 score involvements and 6.0 tackles from his trio of appearances, proving to be a viable midfield option for scouts to consider.

Flexing his power, speed and defensive traits in the engine room, Allan would soon return to Peel Thunder's side in the club's journey to the WAFL premiership, with the teenager playing 11 games at the state league level to cap off a stellar year with a flag.

Rotating through the middle, defence and on the wing, Allan was able to prove himself against experienced opposition while bringing the traits of a leader that saw him earn the respect of his teammates.

Local clubs West Coast and Fremantle will both have their eyes on Allan with draft selections in the teens, while Richmond's array of selections and Port Adelaide's place in the queue at 13th overall could see Allan land at either club.

He earns comparisons to the likes of AFL stars Hayden Young, Elliot Yeo and Josh Weddle, giving his ability to be a midfield-backline dual threat, offering run, power and aerial prowess.

Reminds me of Gilbert.. fast, physical, lanky, awkward, poor kick, not much smarts and not a midfielder.

Yeah agree with you on this .... think when given time & space his kicking is fine but currently under pressure he is a bit of a headless chook

That said I believe in time with more experience he can fix this flaw and improve his skill execution when the heat is on

His speed and athleticism is salivating and he is a one grab good mark and has a great tackle

If he can stack on muscle and grow another few cms he will be a beast

Plenty of great modern mids have had or still have flawed kicks .... Danger / Fyfe / Cripps / Oliver to name a few
The longer it goes with this Bo Allan talk I can see Powel Pepper in him ;physical ,strong at contest ,kicking questionable
Also is he related to the Freo/Haw Allan ?

A deficiency in Clark is his lack of awareness when attacking the contested ball. It's head first with no idea about self preservation. Not every player has a head made of granite like Joel Selwood.

I dont believe that for one second. Have not seen it and the two contact/ collision injuries while playing were plain accidents.

I have rewatched the last 5 or 6 of our games and your assertion just doesn't stand up to actual scrutiny.
