If we develop a strong midfield I seriously see Windhager becoming a good lockdown backman who can release and spread.

I can't get the game Windy played against Collingwood in the middle out of my mind. He was awesome.
If he can do it once...

The further down the list you get the less opportunity you have of picking the player you actually want.

Yes, you may have another chance but talent does actually diminish the further down you go and also your choices diminish.

We have been down the road of diluting our picks before, so I suppose its a strategy we have used over the past 10 years,
I think if we could land Lindsay Trainor or both at 15+16 then we would think we have done very well.

There will be a lot of very good players akin to Darcy Wilson available at those picks.

Pick 8 will highly likely represent pick 1 of those tier 2 players that runs all the way down to the end of night 1.

Windy is 21 and has played 52 games. At 15 he did an ACL, then had covid lockdowns, back issues in U18 campaign, two separate broken hands just before round 1 halting preseason progress and a bad hamstring.

I agree his best games are run with roles but that just helps his progress and apprenticeship as a mid. You shouldn't give up on Windhager as a mid just yet

I'm going out on a limb, going full gringo2011 and will say over a career Murphy Reid will be the best player in the draft.

A few people on a forum saying he is slow, or projecting as a potential small forward shouldn't cloud your own judgement- which it did mine.

How many people have actually focussed on his footy IQ, fend offs, ability to find time in traffic. He is often in a canter because he has more time than most. His kicking is good, handballing is elite, movement in close is elite, he should be the pairing to whoever is at 7.

As for the speed concerns, absolutely unfounded, his preseason testing had him going under 3 seconds for 20m!
What Murphy Reid has in spades is footy smarts and class!!! Do not see that in FOS or Lalor even.

Trainor sliding, if true, will be music to our ears. I’d take him and Hotton at those picks, with a big ruckman or the complete opposite, Tommy Gross, at pick 21.
The amount of talent that would be top 10 in any other year is obscene, all the way out to pick 30 odd.

Its actually ridiculous and hopefully the way things are in 10 years with the majority of kids around the whole country choosing Aussie rules as their preferred winter sport. I know Andrew Varasdi will drive this as hard as possible through the whole of NSW/ACT.

Chatting with a close mate at the cricket last night (a Cup Eve one dayer is a winner if CA could be arsed promoting it properly… fk it was cold though!

Got talking about the draft… his eldest son has come through junior ranks with Jagga & Smilie… wont get drafted unfortunately due to his size & preference for cricket but has done all the pathways stuff with this cohort.

Anyway, he (the son) said that Trainor is the best of the lot. Exquisite skills, footy IQ off the charts & the athleticism to run & jump all day.

My mate, who has watched them all the way through junior rep footy since U12s, said Jagga will go #1. Was a bit concerned with Smilie’s pace & Lalor’s game being currently built around being bigger that other kids.

Big footy phantom has us taking Smillie@7, Armstrong@8, Matt Whitlock@32, Kayle Gerreyn@47 but not matching Hofmann @46

Bid for Cole yet to come

Apart from Armstrong, that’d be a great haul
Very doubtful in my opinion we will draft a forward at pick 8 when crying for midfielders.

Can this draft just be done already 🤣

Anyone that has us taking Armstrong in the top 10 doesn’t deserve to have a say
The guy who drafted for us is an Adelaide fan :tearsofjoy:. If it wasn't nuffy enough already, he explicitly says he thought about Murphy Reid but passed, and then has us picking Matt Whitlock as another KPP at #33 AND not matching a bid on Hoffman to take Kayle Gerreyn as Ruck/KPP at #44.

None of us were available? Seriously guys?

Why didn't you make yourself available if so invested?

I remember the game against the cats when Steele did his shoulder. Windhager came on as sub and had a massive impact.
I just had a quick look at the Pies game this year. There was one centre clearance where he took the ball, shrugged off a tackle and burst out of the centre. It was everything we are crying out for.

King, Camaniti, Sharman, Armstrong, Gerreyn, Keeler in the forward line. Not tall enough.
I saw one phantom draft that had Hofman bidded on at 48 and Cole at 56.
Will be an interesting couple of nights.

It’s a fantastic sunny day go out and enjoy what’s left of it, we’re not on the clock and you’re not making the call.
Lindsey giving me big Jack Billings vibes.

Watch the metro country game where he is at his best and he is hopeless in the contest. Will lay a tackle and clean when receiving but when ball is on the ground he was hopeless.

So we had 27 and exchanged for 32 and 45.

Now we are exchanging pick 8 & 32 for 15,16 & 21.

Can someone explain the reason behind this when we are being told its the strongest draft in years.

Just seems like a dilution of picks and we don't trust our ability to nail a top 10 pick.

You need to consider the picks between 27 and 32 when judging that trade.

Essendon will probably use picks 28 and 31 matching the bid for Kako. So those picks will disappear on draft night.

Brisbane will use pick 27 to match the bid on Ashcroft.

So in effect, picks 27, 28 & 31 will not exist beyond the top 10 and subsequent picks will be moved up after being pushed back by the original bid.

In sliding pick 27 back to pick 32 three of the five picks will disappear in matching bids. So in effect, we have only moved back two places to receive pick 45. A pick we used to trade-in Macrae.

Good business.

I’m not keen at all on trading back, at least in a genuine split rather than a small slide - but that’s highway robbery and I’d do that and go into witness protection. 4 picks inside 21 in a deep/even draft. Yep, there are tiers. But that’s now and the end of career order will be different.

Trainor would probably be the key thing that I’d move to 15/16, if we felt he’s likely to be there.

There’s some good prospects in the teens & twenties, plus it would give us an extra pick in a very even draft

Why are people thinking we will take Armstrong at 8?

Not matching a bid for Hoffmann?

Rather strange.

Not a Hope in hell Whitlock & Gerreyn fall that low…we’ll definitely pick up Hoffman
