I don't think this is a super draft. It's pretty under whelming if I'm honest.

What it is though is a very even pool. Which i think makes people think it runs deep with lots of quality.

I think it's low on quality there's no real sharp top end. More guys from 15-25 range but lots of them from 1-20.
Around about 18 clubs disagree with you. Either that or next years class is the worst ever.

If it's anything, he's not rated in the top 5 when asfaik he looks the goods, and one of his slights is that he doesn't make use of his size, i.e., his upside. My question on Reid is that he is a distributor rather than an extractor. We've got outside mids, but imho we need a line splitting bull.

That often happens when they recruit big guys though, players like Neale and Merrett get in and get the ball while some of the bigger recruits are left floundering. Recruiters dream about a big guy dominating, but it often doesn't happen.

There are drafts when its great to have a top 5 pick. This is a draft when its good to have a lot of picks in the top 40.
Richmond will do well out of this.

I think he’s more a distributor than an extractor. Gets ball, makes good decisions.

We need class more than anything IMO.

Fortunately we have more than 1 pick so we’ll hopefully be able to fill a few other gaps with whatever else we end up with.

Not too mention what the young guys already on the list can develop into.

Yes I agree with this, that was my point

Someone was saying we need Reid to extract the ball from clearance which is currently just not the player he is

I love this categorisation of mids but am too lazy to think about our current mids in these three terms, does someone want to have a go?

Watch the video and sort the following players into one or more of the categories: STRIKE, ENGINE, DISRUPTOR.

(comments about not being as good as the best aren't necessary for this instance)

Windy
Jones
Garcia
Steele
Clark
Byrnes
Stocker
Dow
Wilson
Henry
Phillipou
Macrae
Sincs
Hall

Dont get me wrong, I generally agree re big mids, but if Smillie starts to use his body, he may well dominate

It’s literally one of the best draft fields since the draft started in 1986, there will be Brownlow medalists from this draft.

You took a skill and made it a game plan.

Do you know what these 10 have in common besides a bucket load of individual achievements?

They all average more handballs than kicks.

If that is Reid’s elite talent. It has a place in the modern game.

We are a side with an elite outside set up. Ideally we want players that get the ball to the outside to let us run free. Guys that can handball through traffic are super valuable. Treloar is extremely good at that, his ability to cut through heavy traffic by hand lets the Dogs burst on the outside.

It's super deep. It seems like one that players taken late could be guns. I tend to agree that the absolute cream isn't as obvious. Could just be a bit more hidden in the depth.

Yep... that's why a Smilie/Reid or Langford/Reid combo would be enticing.

Although a Jagga/Reid combo would give us two pure footballers who could slice & dice the oppo with the ball.

Cal Twomey was on SEN this morning.

  • Roos & Adelaide discussing p2 for p4
  • Tauru likely gone before our pick 7
  • Tigers won’t be trading their first few picks. Clubs will need to overpay to land 18/20/23
  • Saints in a good position. Clubs will come hard for pick 8. At this stage he isn’t sure we will trade.

The one everyone seems flat about is Travaglia, he could turn out to be similar to NWM.

Have a read of the below from pages 250 up until we pick NWN, hindsight is wonderful but majority were desperate for Hobbs or Gibcus.

Very interesting how most of us wanted Hobbs, recruiters showed in that case that they were spot on.
It was understandable considering we were crying g out for mids since about 2013.

Not sure we should if we can get 2 top end picks.

The ‘attempt’ to buy back in with a F1

🙏

Some reason I just feel Allan is a Ross special.

Draft night is going to be intense I feel.

We have such an opportunity with 7 & 8 to set ourselves up with good picks.

However reading back that 2021 Draft thread where we were all so keen on Hobbs over NWM where these were the only two real choices for us.

At 7 & 8 in this deep and wide draft we have also the opportunity to right royally screw ourselves. We can look at the top 7 or 8 mids and the best of all of them could be Taj Hotton in the 20's. We may get a slider like Draper and he becomes the best of the top mids.

This is one of the most important drafts to get right, but could easily go so wrong (with the best of intentions, not even supposed bad picks).

All very good news IMO... We are In a nice spot for at least one high end mid and teams will need to pay a lot to tempt us to trade pick 8

I think once North slide down and they still remain infront of us.

Everyone will be relaxed - as it means we get one of those top 6 mids.

Then it will be some fun waiting to see which one it is.

Draper/Langford 🙏

Langford and Reid would be a great pair. Langford is 191 and has a massive left peg. If he's the one that gets through I'd be stoked.

I don't know as much about Draper. I saw someone saying North really like him but sounds like they're set on Tauru

I wonder the price for Adelaide to pive up to P2..... I guess Adelaide´s F2? They dont have any other trade capital
