Hey my 7yo genius child who invented that time machine came up with a joke the other day. What did the sheep wear to the beach?

A lamb-bikini... he couldn't stop laughing, thought it wasn't too bad at all.

The AFL really should do something to alleviate our boredom in between trade and draft. Even if it's a preview of the top prospects, on each day they interview and highlight a prospective draftee.
Crikey. Now it's up to the AFL to provide even more mush for our brains. I don't know where you guys get the juice from to endlessly discuss the possible draft permutations and attributes of each player. It makes my brain hurt trying to follow it all. Just bring the draft on already so we can watch the feel good videos about our new first round draftees having their first day at RSEA park.

Average clearance numbers
Should be an important stat to look at for us IMO

Smith 6.8
Langford 6.3
Smilie 5.8

One of those would be great but may not happen.

Lindsay 4.3
Draper 3.8
Allen 3.7
Reid 3.3

Lindsay stood out there as someone I hadn’t really considered, better clearances than Draper and Reid who are touted as top tier mids?

Allens numbers fairly good for a half back with jo midfield craft 😉

You really have go watch the games and see how they lined them up. Plenty don't get an even run at the midfield. Reid certainly wasn't lined up as a pure inside mid and his role looked more as a ball mover than an extractor in plenty of matches. Guys like Gross and other mids that weren't as blue chip got played outside of their best spot to accomodate the star kids.

My 6 year old is obsessed with Lambos. According to him they go infinity mph. He's going to love that joke.

How about the don't argue on the wing against Footscray for the AIS. If he can do it to a mature seasoned twenty something year old, he will learn to do it on a regular basis.

Hopefully but he's still a risk. His attitude looked ordinary in the champs.

He is more a midfielder than many are giving him credit for on here. Gets judged because he is too light and can kick. Must be an outside type only then🙄

With a bigger frame he is a definite top 10 in this draft.

So my absolute worst combo here would be
Harry Armstrong
Toby Travalgia

and as it stands would still be to very good players, just not the types I prefer.

Armstrong could be Jeremey Cameron like. He's not a need but could be an absolute star. As long as we nail the picks I don't care.

My prediction for the draft -
Pick 7 - either Langford/ Smith or Smilie (which one is left)
Pick 8 - Allan - just recon he is a Ross special with hard at the contest, tacking and speed

Those predictions are based on North taking Tauru.

I do think we will give our F1 up for another pick in the first round this year. We just pay overs to some fans.

Langford is mr consistent.

191cms midfielder who has a massive tank who runs all day and just had a season where he went:

25.9 average disposals
1.3 goals
4.7 tackles
5.1 marks

( Per game average. )
Would be absolutely magnificent to have him billeted next to, and mentored by, this bloke…

As an aside, if we end up with Allen, I reckon the same is true.

Macrae+Bont

Green+Callaghan

As long as both can run two ways and one has burst (Pou) then it’s fine
Been a while since Bont and McRae played in the same midfield. The increase speed in the game put a stop to that.

So one current example and I would question how often Fin is playing big minutes in the middle.

We can’t push either forward very often with Owens already stationed there permanently as a mid size forward. He gets in Kings way enough without adding more marking options up there instead of genuine smalls. They would need to be spending good minutes on the wing and off half back if they aren’t both playing bulk midfield time.

So, if Smith or Langford get to 6 along with Smillie, Richmond may have the first two on top. I’m not against Smillie at all, but as above, perhaps more likely than the others that we don’t have him next in the order.

What’s the pathway for Draper getting through? Adelaide move to 2, take FOS, Carlton takes Smith? Or Carlton take FOS or Smith, Adelaide take the other (or Langford, but then Melb go to Draper)? Melbourne then take Langford in either scenario?

The pathway for Smith or Draper would have to be a perfect alignment of the ordering. A bit like the stars aligning to get that beautiful man Philippou.

Academy & Draft summit:

I had a look at the projected top 25 players in next years (2025) crop and 8 of the 25 are NGA's or FS. Thats a third of the top 25 of the kids in the country tied mostly to the 4 x northern clubs (22% of the competition). Its obvious the AFL are keen to grow the game in NSW & QLD but its got to a point now where the scales are tipped too far their way. Its no different to the salary cap allowance these clubs enjoyed for far too long.

I know our President went to bat in the summit, but the above is evidence the AFL didnt go far enough with their NGA and draft changes.

Its not earth shattering, but I think when the AFL introduced the pick trading periods they would have envisaged it actually being used. As far as I recall there has been possibly a couple of deals of late picks since its inception. Now clubs start talking a long way before the trade and any pick swapping is exclusively done over the trade period or on the draft night/s. Most clubs have negotiated swaps prior to the drafts depending on where their targetted players fall.

Perhaps there is a need for the pick swaps to flow over into the rookie and MSD, was that actually discussed or signed off during the summit?
