Interesting? Bigfooty phantom draft doesn’t have us matching bids on Cole & Hoffman.
Have us taking Smillie, Armstrong, M.Whitlock & Gerryn.
Don't mind Matt Whitlock, only because he's the more versatile KP.
I want King twins and Whitlock twins playing at Saints together.

I hope no-one bids on Cole ahead of Whitlock.

There should’ve been a caveat on the Sandy rookie pick - ‘only if there is a player deemed worthy’

There should be a further caveat.

If a gun emerges at Sandy next year but gets taken before we have a chance to select him, then there’s no need for us to pick the next best (who may be no good at all).

As long as at least one Sandy bloke gets taken, by any club, then that should be the end of any obligation.

Do we reckon our draftees this year will be similar to Nas, Pou and Wilson in the sense that they played most or all 22/23 games in their debut season?

I get the feeling that this draft is more of a slow burner with not a lot of immediate 22. Maybe a Tauru if he slides?? Can't see us giving a full season in the ones to a key forward if we draft one. Im real flipping nervous about this draft if you can't tell.
As our team gets better there may be fewer opportunities for immediate debuts.

Over the last couple of seasons there didn’t seem to be so much of an issue slotting NAS, Cama, Windy, Owens, Mitch, Pou and Wilson in for quite a few games. Also in this instance, injuries were a mixed blessing which actually helped us blood these players early and get lots of games into them.

But we don’t want so many injuries next season, so it may be a little more difficult.

Looks increasingly like Langford will be the remaining big bodied mid available @ 7.

Guy clearly has good disposal by hand & foot, can take grab, will run all day and is a genuine inside mid. Looks a good competitor.

It's the lack of speed that worries me.

Is there enough of a point of difference at the top level to translate his juniors form?

Yes the game is speedier these days. Don't think speed is 'the thing' though. Class & reading the game aka Pendlebury still leads the importance of the player. Not everyone can be an all-rounded Dangerfield or Judd as example. And slowish Cripps & Tom Green are elite players.

100% speed on the ball beats speed every day of the week.

Pendles ran a 3 flat and Danger a 2.9, neither are slow. Cripps is bigger at 195.
Green is probably the closest comparison but probably stronger at same age.

Anyway still a question for mine but I'm just some numpty on a fan board so who knows.

Sounds like another Harvey we once had. 😍

It seems to have extraordinary depth rather than a superstar front end I reckon. It might be one that has those stars hidden a bit more than other years due to a spread of talent though.

To me this is similar to the 2017 draft where there were some absolute stars early like LDU, Andy Brayshaw, Cerra, Naughton types and then a few misses but a huge run of guns through 15 to 35 and then good talent all the way into the 70s.

In that 15 to 35 group. Ed Richards, Zac Bailey, Higgo, Starcevich, Oscar Allen, Tim Kelly, Noah Balta, Liam Ryan, Sam Taylor, Bailey Fritsch and Tom McCartin.

After them Cahrlie Ballard, Worpol, Jack Payne, Gryan Miers, Zerk-Thatcher, Dylan Moore, Lloyd Meek, Xerri, Switkowski, and Guelfi.

I think the front end looks a little better than that year and probably less misses but I'm thinking those picks in the late teens might end up getting players of a similar or better trajectory than some of the top end ones. I feel like nearly every player in the top 10 has at least one question mark over them.
I think the knockers will love this draft (in five years time of course).

Its looking possible that for every pick taken by every club, there will be a fair chance a later pick will turn out to be a better player.

Boxshall is my smokey this year. What do I know though. Bigfooty phantom has him at pick 33, so he's got some value.

I think the fact that he has consistently been in his team's best few players week in week out is much more important than combine time, and he can run all day. Good footballers win games, .2 of a second difference over 20 meters does not
Ability to get split from your opponent in the first 5 metres is an important attribute among others to be sure

Imagine a world where we have Luke Trainor, Arie Schoenmaker, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Jack Sinclair, and Callum Wilkie distributing the ball off half back
