Hey I’m not a track watcher and don’t see much under age football. But the last two
years I have been interested as two guys that have gone to school with my daughter have popped up.
Mitch Edward’s got picked last year by Geelong and Bo Allan is up this year. Before anyone asks my daughter says he is a douche.🤣 I don’t particularly care, if he is a good footy player then I want him playing footy for us.
My question is how many kids that get picked up are not going to school that year. Both Bo and my daughter graduated last year. So he has had a full year where he can solely concentrate on Footy, no exams no school, he has just been able to fully immerse himself into being a better footballer.

Surely this is an advantage and makes him stand out as a footballer this year, does anyone think this would lessen his future growth as opposed to other draftees who have been juggling their final year of school and playing footy??

Imagine a world where we have Luke Trainor, Arie Schoenmaker, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Jack Sinclair, and Callum Wilkie distributing the ball off half back

#flagsaints
Sending it into one of the bottom 3 midfields in the league? Turnover city

I have an idea about who I want St Kilda to draft with our first two picks, but I accept that I am no expert and the recruiters are so I will abide with their decisions.

I have found that getting too fixated on who I want them to draft only leads to unnecessary frustration.

Having said all that...

I have assumed that pick #32 would be used on best available as there will plenty of good choices left, but now I wonder if we don't invest in a good ruck prospect

I have had a good look and think Aiden Riddle 27/12/05 (Claremont WA) who is a 200 cm ruckman who represented WA in the Championships. Pick #32 might be overs for him but I can't think of a more important recruit after our first two picks.

Think one of Logan Smith or Kayle Gerreyn might still be on the board then, prefer them.

Edit: just saw that Smith is tied to the Giants academy so forget him. Gerreyn is a bit shorter (199cm) than both but ranked higher so I don't know.

Just feel as though Carrol is our Bonner replacement, no need to lose your mind over him taking a ‘kids’ spot.
He’s pretty young, depth & fills an area of need - not every player we select has to be an absolute superstar from day one.

Bonner was a waste of a list spot though. We had zero need for him unless you had the misguided belief that Sincs is a mid. I think we were worse as a team with Bonner a liability in the HB role with Sincs playing as an average mid instead of elite HB.

Interesting? Bigfooty phantom draft doesn’t have us matching bids on Cole & Hoffman.
Have us taking Smillie, Armstrong, M.Whitlock & Gerryn.
Don't mind Matt Whitlock, only because he's the more versatile KP.
That guy just selected players he likes with no consideration to the club's situation

Any way to bluff Melbourne to take Armstrong?

Surely they're keen on a decent tall, and can still take mid at Pick 9.

If NM are taking Tauru.
If Richmond are keen on Smillie.
If Melbourne could take Armstrong.
Slide city for the Saints.

Bo Allan and one of Draper/Smith would be.... significantly pleasing

I doubt it would have much impact, young guys are very professional these days. Jack Higgins and quite a few others have been in the same position, while a few will also do VCE over two years to lessen the study load. The issue with a lot of kids is making sure they don’t overtrain. Multi sport athlete as well which I like so it wouldn’t put me off picking him at all.

With the exception of Armstrong and a poor understanding of list spots, I think he did really well.

Smilie is a no brainer, then he picked a tall forward (we have King, Sharman, Caminiti, Owens), a forward ruck (we already have Keeler and Heath developing in that role) and a key defender (fine if we pick up several quality mids as well, which he didn't). Ignored Hofmann and Cole. I'd say that's a pretty terrible job

Not interested in Bo Allen, looks a talent, but has Coffield vibes for me (just results wise, not in the way he plays)...

I want two mids, not guys that could be/may be mids.

I am interested in any of Smilie, Langford and would love Smith if he fell through
One of those and Reid works, or one of those and a pick 8 swap with GWS for a forward and second mid.
I love the idea of Smilie, Shanahan and Haynes... Or Langford, Whitlock and Lindsey...

If its Smith, we have to split to get Haynes as a point of difference to Smith! But really what are the chances he drops through.

This should be a great draft, if we can get a game changer (Smilie) and two more quality players to go with the last few years... amazing!

Prefer the look of Shanahan.

If we were thinking a tall at Pick 8.
Splitting and taking Trainor and Shanahan would be far better than Armstrong alone surely.

I was listening to draft stars yesterday and the guys on there were saying they were surprised with how high Armstrong is ranked, and would actually flip it making Shanahan a potential top 10 pick and Armstrong around the pick 20 mark! Interesting…

If those three guys go before us, we'd likely get Jagga/Draper and Langford

Allan would be a distant memory

Yes, Armstrong is heavily overrated imo. I can't see the comparisons to Jeremy Cameron, he doesn't leave the inside 30m mark and is one-dimensional as a stay-at-home forward. 195cm so not even that big

I'd prefer to take Jonty Faull in the second round if we can get a pick in that vicinity

I tend to agree, but think it may have been how coaches wanted to use him (stay at home forward). I don't love school footy, but he had some very impressive games (20 possie, 10 goal games, etc.).

Yes, I did say Armstrong wasn't a great pick. However, if he understood list spots then he would have taken Cole, whilst Matt Whitlock isn't just a key defender. Also, getting Gerreyn who absolutely slid in that draft and taking him over Hofmann I think most would accept. Check out Gerreyn's highlights and tell me he isn't a better prospect than Hofmann.

Like I said, probably made a mistake with Armstrong, but if he took a mid instead then I would happily accept his draft haul. Not taking Hofmann also would give us another DFA option for a key defender or ruck (love Knobel).

I've been very strong on this for a while. He is one of the most overrated players in this year's draft and that's thanks to guys like Cal Twomey who have a hard on for private school boys who either play for Sandy or Oakleigh Chargers.

I would have Jobe Shanahan, Jack Whitlock and Faull ahead of Armstrong by the length of flemington.
