Sincs ain’t getting any younger… just sayin’.

Worst case scenario we get an explosive half back out of it.

If we could somehow toss 8 to slide back a couple of spots and take him anyway I’d be more comfortable with it.
Hastie and Arie are also very worthwhile options though.

Allan appeals but he isn’t a must have for me.

I think he still fits in the 8-20 range where we want multiple picks.

Absolutely with you Barrels - worst case scenario we get an absolute animal of a defensive general who can impact all over the ground. Happy with either he or Murphy for our 2nd choice.

It was mentioned in an article somewhere in the past week that as Cole, the Hoff and Elwood played a senior game for Sandy that they would be eligible for the rookie spot.
Take the three of them and that is 2025 and 2026 also taken care of.

If he is that good why aren't clubs above us considering him at all?
There has been interest from both Melbourne and Richmond, however there seems to be a group in front of him for various reasons.
My post is simply countering the argument than many posters have used against taking him, which is that he is slow.
I would love a world where he slides to 15 if we have it.
He is a joy to watch, and I’d be just as happy using 8 on him.

There are advantages with taking Langford.

He is 191 cm probably will grow a couple more so say 193cm, a nice left foot kick, and can go forward as well as midfield.

We just recruited a multiple AA 192cm left footed inside mid in Macrae.

So while Macrae holds down that spot we have a ready made replacement that can develop as a mid while making a contribution in other areas (such as forward). Doesn't have to be ready for mid from the word go,but can develop like Wilson and Pou and Windy over a couple of seasons and hopefully be ready to go when Macrae hangs up the boots.

Apparently Dal Santo was slow, so is Bontempelli apparently. Both terrible hacks (and neither were slow BTW)

Langford won’t get past Melbourne #5…Jagga, Reid, Allan & Smillie are all chances to slide, depending how the cards fall

At 5&6? Or 9&10&11? Because there's a significant difference there

Cal Twomey, who rated Reid in his top 5, conceded last week that his max range is pick 8 and wouldn't be a slider if he got to 13. That's a summation of the opinions of the recruiters so clearly there are deficiencies in his game that Sheehan has failed to mention in his analysis (which is fine because he did that for every prospect)

More specifically on the speed, Reid did a 3.03 20m sprint. When you consider his play style, that's slow for a player of 180cm. Points to him turning into a Patrick Lipinski type - a half forward with stints in the midfield

I love the footballer Lipinski is

If we split 8 I think we miss him.

Reid/Lindsay & Trainor if we could land 15+16 🙏

Langford/Draper/Smillie at 7

Just use pick 7 - 8 and select the best players possible at that position. If one of them is Armstrong then so be it.

The last time we tried to be cute with our high picks we missed out on the player of a generation and selected a player based on need and not the best available.

Our fascination with just getting mids because we need them may be our undoing.

Reid has great endurance and an unbelievable footy IQ…his hands and decision making are elite, combined with good foot skills, whoever picks him up will have a potential 200 gamer on their hands

Interesting sheezel did a 3.14 20m

I agree. But that doesn't sound like the profile of a permanent midfielder imo...as I said before, sounds like a Lipinski or a Miers or a Connor MacDonald as a half forward

Sheezel was a gun forward who had potential to become a midfielder. That meant his floor was becoming an A-grade small forward - hence why he was a safe top 5 pick. Ceiling was...well what we're seeing him become now

Reid doesn't have that fall-back option because he isn't a proven forward. His floor is Will Phillips (who tested a 2.906 20m sprint in 2020 but is as slow as anything at AFL level). No one is spending a top 10 pick on a player that could bust that hard, even if his ceiling is Lachie Neale (because thats one in a million)
