At 5&6? Or 9&10&11? Because there's a significant difference there

Cal Twomey, who rated Reid in his top 5, conceded last week that his max range is pick 8 and wouldn't be a slider if he got to 13. That's a summation of the opinions of the recruiters so clearly there are deficiencies in his game that Sheehan has failed to mention in his analysis (which is fine because he did that for every prospect)

More specifically on the speed, Reid did a 3.03 20m sprint. When you consider his play style, that's slow for a player of 180cm. Points to him turning into a Patrick Lipinski type - a half forward with stints in the midfield
Firstly, 3.03 isn’t slow…Reid has the innate ability and spacial awareness to know what’s around him & when to release the ball to advantage!
Like Nick Daicos, his footy IQ is insanely high

I think the chances of Reid or Lindsay or Allan getting to 15 are pretty Slim and if we make that choice to split 8 it is because we don't particularly rate any of them as the answer to our midfield woes. Personally I do rate Reid and Allan.

If it is Trainor Hynes Whitlock we like then 15 - 16 makes more sense but even then Richmond are a chance to take Trainor earlier.

Hoping that one of Reid Lindsay or Allan get through to 15 is not how good operators work. The successful teams identify the talent they want then move to pick them up if they have to.

I think the approach of splitting because we like a bunch of players is unlikely to succeed. By this stage we should know exactly who we want and why and all we should be doing is working on scenarios for trades that help us get the players we want when inevitably things don't pan out the way would like ahead of us on draft night.

It is OK to trade the F1 in if it is targeted to get a specific player. It is not OK for just anyone in that general area of the draft.

See the Hawks move for Weddle or Geelong for Max Holmes those were head scratching moves on draft night because they appeared to pay overs to select a player at the higher end of their concencus draft ranking. But in both cases they were absolutely right.

I think Allan is that player this year but I am a complete amateur maybe it is Tarau and North grabbing him at 2

The ones with both the extreme athletic profile and the competitiveness are worth the early punt.

I agree. But that doesn't sound like the profile of a permanent midfielder imo...as I said before, sounds like a Lipinski or a Miers or a Connor MacDonald as a half forward
Reid is a midfielder you can argue whether he makes it AFL but he won't be a half forward at AFL level IMO

His biggest weapon is his handballing in tight quick hands great vision in confined space (Greg Williams Also doubted as a young footballer) That weapon is only useful if he is in the middle. He can pinch hit up forward because he is smart and a good footballer but he is clearly a midfielder first and he his career will live and die based on whether we are right about his ability to stand up in an AFL midfield or your doubts are proven.

The Dogs have done this with a few talented midfielders recently because they had too many of them so ended up playing Wallis and Hunter and now West as forwards when they were clearly Mids.

Fast of mind beats fast of foot most days of the week.

If Reid was a pudgy, treacle slow midget then I'd understand the reservations.

But he's not.

If he can be combined with a big brute of a mid at #7 (Smilie or Langford) then that's a magnificent outcome for us.

Then we trade our F1 back in for Trainor & we are in business.

No, we don't. People just assume we need a key forward which automatically means we then want Armstrong.

We're red hot for Cooper Hynes as well as guys like Reid, Linsday and Allan. Jason Taylor spoke at a Melbourne function last week and mentioned that we will be targeting midfielders in the draft.

Would Demons look at splitting pick 9?

And Richmond have the hots for Smillie so it's back to Langford

To land Draper:

He must get past pick 4.

To land Langford:

Jagga and Smillie need to go any combination of 5/6

To Land Smillie:

Any of the above situations but Jagga lands at 6 and Smillie goes 7.

But to achieve any of the above. A tall - likely Tauru needs to go before pick 7

Full season highlights of the slick, classy and clever Murphy Reid. It was an incredibly successful season for Murphy who was named as the MVP of a Vic Metro team that won the Champs, as well as being one of the driving forces of a Sandy Dragons team that stomped their way to another Talent League flag.

Honest question.

What’s your top 10 mock looking like?

I dont do mocks as such. I have very little idea what teams are looking for (I know what I watched last year but I don't know what you have cooking in the VFL and how your positional depth looks), and I have no special insight into which prospects teams are zeroing in on outside of the kind of rumours that everyone has likely heard (such as Lalor at pick 1).

I can give my own rankings/tier list but that's about it really.

Alright, I’ll settle for a tier list/ranking please.

Doesnt need to be war and peace.

Top 25 will do 🤪.

(Appreciate you and what you do btw)

Langford or Draper, plus Reid and Trainor (Battle replacement) would be an amazing haul.

If we also had pick [emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]] in the pick swap (I know I’m being greedy), and then landed big Dodson, then we wouldn’t have too many more holes to fill at the draft table.

Especially if we matched bids for Cole (Howard replacement) and Hofmann (possible Webster replacement).

Maybe a tall forward. But Keeler could yet develop into that player for us.

Almost everything would be done as we pedal furiously to develop and grow as a team before Tasmania comes in.
