Wonder how many people here have actually seen Tauru and Trav play in person and can compare to others they are suggesting we select?

Bit weird to get angry if you haven’t got the intel.

Also the draft hasn’t happened…..it’s just someone’s opinion who has historically done well, but he hasn’t always got it right, and he has admitted it’s a tough year with many variables.
Far to sensible from you,

when did anyone melt over Naz... i remember he was the pick of the draft for many on here

where did this bullshit narrative that Naz was a contentious call start from?
The draft thread was on here the other day and everyone wanted Hobbs.

There were melts but pretty quickly everyone decided to get behind the kid.

As everyone will do with whomever we select on Wednesday.

Considering we won't know for years it is pointless to melt. I prefer others to Travaglia BTW.

There were huge melts over nas

Firstly that we took a low posession one dimensional winger cos he was a good kick

Secondly because we took a quiet shy south Australian who was instantly deemed a go home risk instead of locals sinn and Hobbs

NWM had concerns on the go home factor in his draft year.

As far as the Carlton game and the Higgins goal goes, what do people want?

Do some people want Higgins to have questioned himself at that split second moment, to have gone against every bit of instinct and all footy education and training and deliberately tried not to score a goal? Do we want players prepared to tank a game, take a dive for some theoretical advantage in the long term? Do we want coaches and footy directors prepared to do what Melbourne did not that long ago?

Yes, it's inconvenient that it probably cost us a slightly better midfielder in the draft.

But think of what tanking a game would cost us culturally. Some teams have the luxury of playing with their culture; we don't. Andrew Bassat said something at the BnF along the lines of:

"We have everything against us so if anything less than our absolute best is going to take us nowhere"

We will draft who we draft and if we don't get the absolute cream, so be it. We cannot EVER be a club that picks and chooses when to give it everything - that is not hyperbole, that is just a fact.

Yah IIRC, Hobbs was a decent midfield prospect who seemed to be sliding (and so when he was at our pick a lot of us hoped), and Josh Sinn was a local boy with HBF to turn into a Mid vibes.

Nas was well rated, but an outside player and from Adelaide so there was a go home fear factor. Plus, we all have midfielder tunnel vision, so anyone who isn’t a mid automatically has a bad sheen to them.

In the end, we made the right call, when it would have been very easy to make the easy one. Hell, Nasiah is one of the best players from that draft class, and is tracking to be one of, if not the, best player in his position. You know that’s so, when oppo supporters don’t stop singing the praises.

Both players are nice. Don’t think anyone disagrees or doesn’t rate them. The comical thing though is we are desperate for mids. We have 2 top 10 picks. And if Cal is right, we will pick 2 defenders. I personally like both boys, but we need mids.

Carl, Barks, Roo. We are well overdue for a blonde star though. I’ll go with whatever the club decides. The recruiting department have made some good decisions recently.

These are the sorts of people who think that we should immediately go into tank mode as soon as finals are out of the question. It's a stupid, weak mentality based on a very simplistic view of the success and failure of a season.

No we’re not; we’ve got mids.

We’re desperate for elite mids. If there’s none left at our picks but there are elite non-mids available, then we should at least consider them.

We need quality not quantity.

Could someone in here watch this video or if you have already, please let me know what I'm not seeing?

So far I've jotted down;

Urgent but always rushed
Competitive
Extremely sloppy disposal by hand and foot
- Ball drop is awful, handballing a bit better as options are more obvious and he's quick to hit it - still imprecise
Marginally better than average pace but slow to hit top speed
plays half-back, a position we do not need
Strong middle distance runner and solid follow up disposals, good link up
Poor and slow surveyor of options once ball is recieved - just hovers about for a couple of seconds

If this guy turns into a GUN midfielder, I'll eat my hat. He might be okay in there evenetually but thats not what you want from pick 8.

There was definitely the same calls for not taking a 'pure mid' , go home factor, not contested enough among other issues.

Specifically, not drafting Hobbs.

What genuine top end midfielders do we have?

Dont tell me Phillipou who is a forward first and learning craft as a mid.

Don’t mention Owens who is clearly a forward.

Windy looks a likely AFL type. Not yet shown he is an AFL level midfielder unfortunately

Nas is a half back.

Wilson is a winger/flanker

Excellent post, but it's weird, after all these years I feel like this is the first time I've read a post from you that isn't a gif.

It's like hearing a silent comic talk for the first time.

Having said that, I'm still going to melt.

Isn't he saying we don't have top end midfielders? It looks like you're disagreeing with someone saying the same thing as you?
