Brisbane also tried to draft in pairs (e.g. McCluggage and Berry, Wilmot and Lohmann) to encourage retention. Get the best player first then use a later pick to pair him up, when the right player is available. Seems to have been an effective strategy.
Yep GWV Rebels Harry Sharp and Kai Lohmann were mates at the Rebels, they also recruited Kai's brother Jacob Lohmann for their VFL program.

Like Kai he went through the GWV Rebels program a few years ago and showed some talent but went undrafted.

Jacob was playing local footy and on a VFL club roster as a top up but pretty obviously when Brisbane realised they had a ripper in Kai Dom Ambrogio went to work on his retention and recruited his brother for their VFL program.

Wasn't that Gold Coast's plan with Rankine & Lukosius? Seems to have worked fine

You must have been happy with Kai's prelim. You called him early in his draft year I know.

Why? One of the dumbest rucks I have seen. Looks unco alot of the time.
Because I’ve seen him dominate games pre-injury. Because he’s young. Because he has X-factor. Because he is more versatile than ROB. Because he’s South Australian. Because he’s a ready-made known prospect. Because he can play Round 1.

Possible list changes...

Ins:
(T Murray)
Cumming
ANB
Pick #4
Next pick
Welsh

Outs:
Sloane
McHenry
Parnell
Burgess
Gollant (should be Strachan)
Hamill (should be Smith!)

In a perfect world, delist Strachan, trade out Gollant & trade in another ruckman.

So by my count we have 37 autographs for next season (not including Burgess, who may or may not have a contract...). Borlase, Keane and Toby Murray are Cat A rookies, and Gallagher is a Cat B.

So we have 33 confirmed primary list spots; add Cumming and ANB who are all but certain additions, we are up to 35 primary spots. That leaves us a maximum of 3 primary list spots. I don't think any of the rookies have to be promoted yet, so assuming they all stay we have 39 of a maximum 44 list spots (maybe 40 if Burgess is indeed under contract and staying).

Assuming we take Pick 4 to the draft and get Welsh - who will both be primary list signings - there's still one spot left on the primary list - unless, of course, Burgess already has it.

Then we have maybe 2 rookie spots left we could give to a current unsigned players or go to the rookie draft.

Being displaced as #1 ruck by 47yo Todd Goldstein is prob not a great sign. Yes he'd bring more x-factor than ROB but also more dickhead factor, and only 3 years younger. Suspect he'd only come for a huge offer and I don't think he's worth that.

Nick Bryan is a better ruck, he'll jump Sam.

Not a particularly aggressive type ruckman, for mine rucks need a pretty decent amount of aggressiveness to be lead rucks especially in ruck contests.

Would you classify Gawn or Grundy as aggressive or you talking Mumford aggressive?
Of course Gawn and Grundy are aggressive, Mumford was simply a brute. Surely you've watched Bryan he's more the athlete type ruck, not a lot of aggressiveness about his game style. Certainly way more skilled than ROB but ROB would towel him in the ruck contests just like most rucks with aggressiveness towel Tim English in the ruck contests including ROB.

I hope you're kidding .....he's no chance to make it, way too soft & avoids body contact ....he is so easily pushed off the ball, as he has no core strength

Why do you think ESS resigned a 37 YO Goldstein

Nope never seen Bryan, just trying to work out where he fits in the aggressive scale.

ROB isn't really aggressive either...

Or move contracted players from the main list to the rookie list to fit in any players traded in, or get up to two more cracks at the draft.

We need to take 3 at the draft, so at least one contracted player will move to the rookie list (I’m using your maths not mine).

Yes he is, very aggressive in ruck contests, you don't win that many taps if you're not.
Winning taps doesn't equate to aggression.

ROB isn't know for throwing his weight around like the most aggressive ruckmen.

How often does apply blocks or shepherds?

It’s really hard to be aggressive when you are knock-kneed!

Fine you disagree, I strongly believe he's an aggressive ruck and compared to Nick Bryan he's King Kong who was the subject in discussion.

I'm not talking about comparing to Bryan but all AFL ruckmen.

If you polled who is the most aggressive ruckman in the AFL, I doubt ROB would get a very high vote... do you?

Opinions be like....

Strange he leads all rucks in the AFL for 1%'s I guess.

Over and out.

Seems you've been taking lessons from Kramer.

You have completely ignored what I previously posted.

You equate winning taps with aggression, when they are not related!

ROB rarely lays a heavy block, shepherd or block for teammates.

There are some very aggressive ruckmen in the AFL & ROB is not known for being one of them.

Comparing him to a 3rd string ruckman to make your case doesn't cut it.

What does this have with GK?

We still need a more goal sneak type forward. He is the only one about and has come off a career season

I mean Rankine and Rachele are still in the team, they help.

Taylor looked pretty handy around the sticks when given a chance.
