Have you actually watched Goad play this season for the RoosVFL? I take it you haven't?Wouldn’t be a bad thing otherwise still have ROB or Strachan

Any chance we’ve chased EnglishWe've got ourselves into a situation where we need to trade for a young ruckman (eg Goad), draft a ruckman to develop (eg Dodson), plus trade for another stopgap ruck option to play while the first two get up to speed
And yet for years some on here have defended our strategy, “it’s easy to trade one in” my reply to that has been “not for us”We've got ourselves into a situation where we need to trade for a young ruckman (eg Goad), draft a ruckman to develop (eg Dodson), plus trade for another stopgap ruck option to play while the first two get up to speed
pick 10 on a ruck?..really.If we are smart they’ll target that pick with Freo that is currently ports 1st and offer a swap of first picks
Our future first for that port 1st rounder
Likely a top 10 pick after Port free fall
Freo will want to trade into 2025 for Warner trade collateral
Gives us 4, 10 then welsh with f/s junk
Take
Draper
Dodson
Welsh
Someone will. Not saying we should.pick 10 on a ruck?..really.

It's what we are good at.Quite the little mess AFC has created out of a simple predictable situation.
Jeez when you put it like that it sounds awfulWe've got ourselves into a situation where we need to trade for a young ruckman (eg Goad), draft a ruckman to develop (eg Dodson), plus trade for another stopgap ruck option to play while the first two get up to speed
The core of it is over-rating ROB in terms of the contract we gave him, the elevation to the leadership group and the team security we assumed was his for many years. We didn't think we needed to worry about back up.Quite the little mess AFC has created out of a simple predictable situation.
If our club had any standards at all, ROB would have been given a one-week wake up call in the reserves after his 4 marks in 4 games opening to the season. Crows 0-4.Imagine RoB sitting back the last 3 weeks and thinking ''oh no Kieran might pinch my spot '' yeah right
And purely because of what we have allowed. That old saying 'what you walk past is what you accept' applies here. We have celebrated and rewarded him for his stats, regardless of what he he did with them. The core of it is over-rating ROB in terms of the contract we gave him, the elevation to the leadership group and the team security we assumed was his for many years. We simply aren't demanding enough on our senior players. They might be good, established AFL footballers but they may still need to round off certain aspects of their game.
For instance imagine if Laird even slightly improved his ability to lower his eyes and look for a target? We'd still have a quality mid and half back springboard option. Instead we've got an older player on good money without a clear position for him.
this conversation is a large draft beerThis is why we really should draft Vic players because that's the only way we will get them. Then can lure SA players back with trades.
I too have been drinking

I agree, and then hope/trust that we can keep them for some time after being drafted. This is why we really should draft Vic players because that's the only way we will get them. Then can lure SA players back with trades.

Ummm you've obviously got me mixed up with someone else, I was never, ever keen on Hayes for the Crows because right back to his draft year there were very real concerns with his endurance, that said his palm work was always better than both Strachan and ROB. Hence Hayes went in the main draft, ROB as an overager out of the NAB League in the rookie draft and Strachan plucked out of the Bendigo Football League as a mature aged rookie
Our complete inability to manage a list correctly means that we are in desperate need to add at least 2 rucks. We've got ourselves into a situation where we need to trade for a young ruckman (eg Goad), draft a ruckman to develop (eg Dodson), plus trade for another stopgap ruck option to play while the first two get up to speed
Passed over in the MSD , very raw but if you watch some of his VFL footy for the Cats there's a bit to work with, body's already there, he's a man mountain. Rookie him what's to lose? 206cmOur complete inability to manage a list correctly means that we are in desperate need to add at least 2 rucks.
1 needs to be a genuine chance to displace ROB as the #1 ruck.
1 also needs to be a young developing ruck (hopefully we have learnt our lesson).
I know we added TMurray to the squad, but does anyone actually think he's a chance of being a #1 ruck at AFL level?
Personally I'd be trying to trade a ruck in (Moyle for example) while also targeting an ex-basketballer or young Sudanese kid we can get cheap to develop. We have a pretty strong Sudanese basketball community in Adelaide, surely a Cat B 200 cm+ Sudanese kid could be found?
I'm going to do some looking at this guy, I must admit I've not watched him beforeBeen thinking a bit about our list and what it needs, and realistically, it's
- Run, rebound, distribution off half back. Hinge is ok, Milera if he plays is ok, Worrell is nice. But most good sides have a weapon. Bailey Dale, Dan Houston, Jayden Short, NWM. Missing Redman last year hurt. These are easy to find, often re-purposing failed forwards from other clubs even. Isaac Cumming could be gettable, you'd think. He's solid.
- A competent ruck to replace ROB. These can be found relatively cheaply through the ruck merry-go-round -
Nick Bryan, Nick Madden, Ned Moyle, and Dante Vistentini (if we're feeling ambitious) all would be an upgrade on what we have and behind an incumbent, Max Knobel at Freo, Max Heath at StK, Oscar Steene at Coll some project types with a couple years of development but probably need a couple more.
- A more dynamic & modern midfield. Soligo's a start as that budget Butters/Daicos type, Dawson works given the amount of boxes he ticks, Rankine's the impactor - but you need a fourth/fifth option, especially given it'd allow Dawson to be versatile & Rankine to impact forward. Crouch is a stop gap and 29, Laird is done, and Schoenberg/Berry aren't it. Maybe it's Dowling/Pedlar. But we need more.
The forward line isn't the biggest concern - Rachele comes good. Rankine spends some time down there. Thilthorpe will at worst be fine. Pedlar if he doesn't turn into a mid worst case is dynamic down there. Cook if he doesn't end up a handy winger/half back will be a nice enough target in time. Keays is painful, but also performs a hard role to a reasonable standard. Fog is also painful but if he's as bad as it gets down there, we're fine. Prioritise elsewhere.
The one I'd love to see is try and snag is Alex Davies from Gold Coast. He was a first round talent but got onto their list via a pre-draft concession, so doesn't have the tag. 193cm mid. Just turned 22. Big bodied mids take time, we know that. He's stuck behind Rowell, Anderson & Touk, with Humper coming along, Rogers & Graham just drafted, and Lombard the wizard coming along this year too. There's a clear reality where Davies is actually a genuinely good player, but just doesn't get a look in due to only being 'eh' forward.
Always played low TOG, always had high fwd splits, but the kid has some real attributes. Great size, but not lumbering for it. Super good extractor, great hands, tackles hard and well, competitive & cracks in. Solid overhead. Would be a real point of difference for us - replacing what Crouch does, but potentially in a more dynamic way. Probably the one cheaper/gettable guy I reckon would be worth a real look - because finding mids who are difference makers is bloody hard.
He’ll look good on our half forward line.Passed over in the MSD , very raw but if you watch some of his VFL footy for the Cats there's a bit to work with, body's already there, he's a man mountain. Rookie him what's to lose? 206cm
Ajang Kuol mun (Anakie/Geelong VFL)
What a story this would be. Playing soccer growing up, Kuol mun decided to have a run around with Geelong & District club Anakie last year – his first season of footy in a decade. As they were thumped most weeks, Kuol mun was a shining light, with his impressive campaign leading to a VFL opportunity with Geelong. All it has taken is a few VFL outings for the 206 centimetre big man to pique the interest of clubs, with Kuol mun among the players undergoing medical testing ahead of the mid-season intake. Essendon and West Coast have met with the raw ruckman, with the Eagles’ interest stretching back further, and he will have a final audition with the Cats this Saturday. His rise is even more incredible given the South Sudanese talent spent the first four years of his life in a Kenyan refugee camp. The 22-year-old has huge upside given his limited exposure, having already improved rapidly in the space of 18 months.
Am I the only one that doesn't see draper as the preferred midfield option? I am all for drafting SA kids but is he the answer?Providing we don't win too many in the run home, we'll draft a potential top line mid like Draper with pick 6/7, likely we'll then have to use our second (tied to Melbourne?) to match Welsh, then have a pick or two out in Hail Mary 40 plus territory. That should be a solid draft, albeit light on in numbers.
We're not getting anything worthwhile pick wise for those leaving
