3rd rounder for ANB surely.
They thanked and farewell him on their banner

They shown he’s going with their blessing and they’re not holding him to his contract. They will get what they’re offered

The only measure is are both clubs interested in him and paying his current salary or not. If yes we set the price against eachother, if not then it’s almost a giveaway

*they got better than us because they have drafted more quality young talent and have traded in smartly re listed afl players , they also played them and have a genius coach . They’re also not afraid to play the experienced players in peripheral roles eg sub and flank
Andy Collins as Mitchell's Lieutenant in the background has a lot to do with the Hawks success, seems to be overlooked a lot in all this Hawks talk. A proven coach on many levels.. Smart by Mitchell to get him in when he was appointed.

Premierships at the Hawks (AFL) and Sandringham (VFL) as a player. Hawks B & F, Premiership as a Coach (Sandringham (VFL), SANFL Grand Final (West Adelaide), VFL Grand Final (Coburg).

I would move mountains to get him in at the Crows.

I’d be encouraging him to see if he can find a suitor , that’s what the successful clubs do . Talk to managers , tell them he’s not in best 22 plans and see if he can find a suitor

It’s actually fairer to Laird to do it that way too
Whilst it would be best for the club for him to move on, it's unlikely for several reasons:
  • He's cooked, and everyone can see it.
  • He's got a 2-year contract.
  • He's on a sizeable contract.
  • He's settled in Adelaide, has no desire to move interstate, and no interest in playing for Port (who don't want him anyway).
  • He's not a FA, so they would need to trade for him (though Adelaide would probably accept a token pick which they wouldn't use in the draft).
Even if he was amenable to moving (which he almost certainly isn't), it's highly unlikely his manager would be able to find a suitor willing to take him.

Pragmatically, I think 2025 will be almost as bad as 2024 except a softer draw may inflate results. Hopefully Nicks sacked as soon as possible.
We should get a softer draw, and we should continue to see organic growth from our younger players. However, we will continue to have a low ceiling until our midfield problems are properly addressed.

His contract should have been frontloaded given our list the last few years. And we should be paying it to he5 him out of the club. He'd be ok depth for a contending side and might be better having had a rocket fired up his rear.

This makes me think that he’s agreed a deal with us or port and that club has probably already agreed a trade in principle with Melbourne.

That 50m last night was really poor. Some of the stuff from Laird, Murphy, Tex and Dawson last night - decisions and errors - looked particularly bad in light of the week we have had
That smother on Laird - you could see that happening a few steps before it did (and I reckon he got smothered/ deflects on another kick out as well

It's ludicrous to have Laird doing any kickouts. Does anyone instruct this, or is it random on ground?

He clearly looks like he’s lost passion for the game and he’s adding nothing in leadership for our young guys

He could have a mini renaissance at another club as a role player for 2 years for sure , he should try instigate it if the club doesn’t

It would be an absolute travesty if we land Luko and they force Walker out without him having been given an opportunity to farewell the supporters.

I argued before that there isn't room for both Tex and Luko in the same team, so I understand where they are coming from, from a logical perspective. However, treating a club Legend like this is completely unacceptable.
I'd still keep Tex on minimum wage, and he can mentor/coach/inspire. Break glass emergency if we cop injuries. Give him a farewell game end of 2025 if we can.

Yes we might need to blow up the soft cap , no point having money and a shite football program

What's the point of that? How many more years are you going to keep him on the list because you're frightened of what happens when he's gone? It's time and if it costs us a couple of wins, who cares, we've stuffed this rebuild anyway and need another couple of near bottom finishes.

I think he is 100% coming to us. I think your right, it might not get done until late but the clubs know roughly the pick range.

It could be a second rounder but there is a big difference between an early and late second rounder. Maybe we think with some players leaving and other pick swaps we can get a late second ronder.
