I'd swap Smith and Hamill - smith retired and Hamill retained for another year. Other than that, thumbs up on that list

Himmelberg is a free agent, he just walks to the Giants and we get given AFL compo, likely a packet of chips.

Smith has likely reached the trigger, whether we like that he’s playing on or not (I don’t)

Mostyn I’d say your list is pretty spot on with what happens, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one of Hamill or McHenry is retained on the rookie list (both should be gone, though)

Was about to say exactly this. Feels like a fairly accurate prediction but we won't lose both McHenry and Hamill.

Obviously not. But why are people celebrating a defender who lets his opponent have his usual impact whilst offering nothing offensively?

He is a poor mans Chayce Jones. Which is most certainly saying something.

Good form in what sense?

Smith is definitely having an absolutely shocking year this year and deserves to be dropped.

But Smith is in the side as a rebounding HBF - his position in the side is to provide drive off of half back.

Hamill was in good form against Collingwood? Look if you want to have Hamill in the side as a lock down defender then thats one position, but we need to replace Smith with a rebounding defender.

Hamill's last 11 games have yielded 1,241 meters gained. Smith had over 1,000 in a single game in 2022.

Keep Borlase? Borlase was absolutely destroyed by an 80 year old Gunston in the first quarter. Nicks then moved him around the rest of the game where he became our leading intercept defender. The issue is that he provided as much run and drive as Butts. He had 16 disposals (9 kicks) and had 90 meters gained.

With Murray returning our ideal back 6 for 2025 is Murray, Keane, Worrell, Max, Hinge, XXX. XXX should be Smiths replacement. Butts/Borlase should be KPD depth. Worrell 3rd tall. Max gets most dangerous small. Hinge and XXX to be rebounding defenders. I don't think we can rely on Milera coming back - last time he had this injury it took him 2 and a half years to return to any type of form (and he wasn't as good as pre injury Milera).

IMO we have two big decisions for 2025.

1. How we replace Smith with a rebounding defender. In truth this is a relatively easy position to fill comparative to other spots.

2. What to do with Curtin. I don't know how best to utilize him and the sad thing is that neither does Nicks / our SANFL team.
I still prefer Butts to Keane. Keane leaks too many goals through dumb errors … it’s like he is still learning the game (which of course he is). A bit of run from a good deep small defender would likely help take some pressure to rebound away from Butts playing lockdown KPD.

A Key Position Player able to competently play forward and back would be nice. Nick Murray? Perhaps I still just want to see Nigel Smart pushed forward when we need a lift.

Also wanted is an A-Grade wing with height, pace, skill and attacking flair ……. Curtin?

Having Worrell in there for spoiling allowed him to be a little bit less accountable. We miss Worrell badly

Seek help..
what you said was legit irrelevant. He was listing first rounders and (correctly) listed Cook at pick 25 but not Edwards and Ryan even though they were equally as valid for the list.

Was a list of first round picks, not a list of top 18 picks or whatever, though that would have probably been more useful in arguing the point he was making, if slightly arbitrary.

i am still trying to work out why we chose baby John Burgess to help with our forward line. He is the wrong age demographic and has serious defects in this game - lack of pace and poor recovery - which are not going to improve at age 28. Was it because there was no-one available after Chol was taken by Hawthorn and we had to be seen to grab someone to appease the fans and supporters. I didn't like what i saw from day 1 at practice. Did we ever look at young Dear? He looks every part an AFL player.
We got him to play as backup behind TT, HimmelBerg and Gollant. We did not pay much.

Somehow he's getting games.

I dunno.

He's getting games because TT & Himmelberg are out due to injury, and Gollant has been tried & found wanting. He's literally our last option.

No one we want to get rid of has any trade value which is rather sad.

We're not holding a great draft hand, just the standard you get for finishing 12th-14th which is where we're likely to wash up after R23.

Well... he also played round 1.

So... yeah.
In R1 we were missing Tex & TT. Burgess & Gollant both played that game, with Berg being the only one to miss out. Ironically, Berg (who started as the lowest ranked of our 3x back-ups) has proven to be easily the best of them.

The reality is that we're scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

Makes some kind of sense right.
West Coast, want to trade their first rounder for him last year. We needed coverage for a kpd.
Freo has a heap of picks the following year makes it more competitive to get the best return.

I like it, just a few issues I can see.
1. We would have to have the ability to forward plan.
2. We would need the intelligence to think this through
3. We need to be able to pull it off and not f@&$ it up

Not sure I can see us doing any of those 3

I think we keep Hamill. Otherwise agree.
