I think Danger Blitz and Atkins starting midfield would be a good mix with Conway in the ruck.
Rotations of Holmes Bruhn Miers.

Putting Blitz in maybe allow our first pick Osullivan to play backline and moving Duncan or Zuthrie to the wing.

I want to see Bowes with more midfield minutes.

I know what you are saying it is important to have that but we need the cattle through the midfield that we have in the midfield or the wings. Daicos is linking up with some quality midfield and wings who have Holmes like speed, we already have Tom Stewart one of the best intercept and best kicks also Duncan provides that drive as well. I’d rather him deliver to a Holmes and danger through the midfield and they release the ball and get it deep in our forward line. The 6 position is quite irrelevant in general play as well and that is when a rebound will most likely happen, centre bounces is where it is most effective.

It looked a bit that way in the second half , particularly the last 1/4 .
Holmes was involved in some positive passages and seemed to be further up the ground than half back when he received it.
Was able to run with it and generate some quality inside 50's.

Zuth has wing potential but he's developing rapidly where he is so I'd be loathe to move him unless he started to plateau

Yes I agree, with his brother in the side straight to half back. I am just thinking Blitz is the best player to shuffle from the wing to the center, leaving the wing open… maybe Miers plays higher Miers and Holmes on the wings?

I suspect we'll see a lot of Miers working further up the ground like we did in the praccy. His ball use & vision is second only to Jezza when delivering forward of centre for mine.

Whether that's actually him playing on a wing, we'll wait and see, but at the end of the day when the balls in transition he'll be roaming up and down the ground, so it's essentially the same thing.

FWIW - i havent watched preseason practise matches for years , i just couldnt be bothered , i think the last one i actually watched was 2012 ( reigning premiers ) and played Rich ( who wernt much good ) the game was at KP and the Cats lost by about 10 goals

You would have to pay me $s to watch any AFL clubs preseason game

On about Tuesday i did actually look up the result , and noticed that Geel won by about 3 goals so that was good , Guthries injury is a bit of a bummmer

When they bounce the ball to start the home/away season that is when i get keen , and i will work out which new Geel recruits look the goods etc

I've said for ages he should be full time wing. He's a better passer than nearly anyone in the League and fitter than nearly everyone.

Team V Essendon named.

Zero surprises here for mine.

Edit* Ollie Henry not named due to rolled ankle (precautionary).

FB: MOC SDK Kolo
HB : Henry Stewart Bews
C: Blitz Holmes Duncan
HF: Close Stengle Jez
FF: Hawk Miers Neale
Foll: Stanley Danger Atkins
Bench: Zuthrie Bruhn Clark Mullin Touhy Dempsey Mannagh Bowes

Emg: Conway Knevitt COS Parf

Clearly wanting to take a look at Neale, Mannagh and Dempsey.

Bews names on ground, Mullin on bench.

Conway to do his thing in VFL until fully ready or needed.

Parf is a fringe of the fringe player.

Backing Touhy in.

Knevitt was ordinary v the blues and didn’t make the cut.

Lawson not named as an EMG.

It all makes sense to me… we are going full strength and with a couple of spots ups for grabs I can’t wait to see Mannagh, Dempsey and Neale going hard to win a R1 position.

Is Ollie Henry hurt?

If not, I'd say that's a surprise, no?

Problem with Miers on the wing is he lacks pace and penetration with his kicking. He also can’t really compete for the bail out kicks to the wings. Leave him around the half forward line where his passing is more effective.
Of our half forwards, Close for me is the most likely to make it as a winger if you had to move one there. Mannagh is an unknown. Dempsey maybe.

Mullin and Bews were a slight surprise to me given their efforts the week before but maybe I'm taking too much from a scratchy

Ahh nice find.

Yeah I didn’t notice him missing.

Id be more surprised if he was named emergency but hopefully he is just resting and giving Neale, Mannagh + Dempsey a chance to get more minutes on the ground to get a better look at them.

Fingers crossed Ollie Henry is just rested here.

I don’t have either in my best 22/23.

But I got the feeling we are wanting to play maybe one of them R1.

I’d be happy for neither to play though and have Mullin just get more games into him via the VFL.

Maybe he plays a ripper tomorrow and earns his spot… still think he is a bit off being an effective AFL player… needs time.

Agreed, neither are best 23 for me. Mullin due to needing time in VFL to get seasoning and Bews just purely as depth.
What he brings isn't enough to unseat other defenders.

I think you need one of them though. We're too tall without them

Parfitt emergency in AFL but then not named in the VFL unlike all the other emergencies who are playing VFL.

"The medical staff we have are the best in the league and we back them in, we're taking the precautionary route with Ollie and expect to see him back within the next 2-3 years" - Chris Scott, probably
