I thought from the get go Houston's clear preference was to get back to Victoria, it's just that it was contingent on the interested clubs having the collateral to make it happen? Did Port ever come out strong publically that he was a required player yada yada? I get the feel they were already planning for him leaving?

TBF we did go hard at Gulden IIRC
Put me on record as stating I do not want Oliver he is a withering flame who if he keeps up his current lifestyle may only have 2-3 seasons left playing well below his capabilities. We do not have the crew to get him back on track and we are fooling ourselves if we think we do. He lived with Gawn himself to no avail we won’t fix him.
I would much prefer a different type of gamble where we take a chance on a young lad in the draft.

His issues were way more deeper than Stengle. It's rumoured it was another factor in Petracca being "unhappy" at the Demons was what was going on with Oliver re his preparation etc.

I recall him saying that ‘we’ll dig down with all the FA offers and make a decision from there’. Has NFI how the system works. The FA signs an actual playing contract with the new club and it’s lodged with the AFL. The AFL send you a copy and if you don’t match, it’s the actual player contract. Kelly is a genuine moron.
