It’s the abc remember, the only reason Tony Armstrong got a gig on there is because he’s aboriginal!
Got to have inclusivity.

Ah yes, the old "Don't hate insert minority group here, I just don't think they can get jobs off of their own merit and automatically assume they're whatever the right wing buzzword is right now hires every time."

He could be the difference between a flag in the next year or two with Geelong. Not likely to be for us.

It's why I was actually happy that we targeted Gibbs when we did. I figured he might be what we needed to go one step further than 2017. But as soon as it became clear we were falling away, that trade became a disaster in hindsight.
How far away from a flag are we?

Oliver is 27 years old - slightly younger than Dawson. If we're not up in 3 years, well then we're Adelaide but that should seriously be our goal.

Wright would be a fantastic addition however I can't see what we've got to offer him that would lure him away from Vic.

Believe there was some talk about him possibly being interested in a CEO position which we're clearly not offering, much of what he's already done. Perhaps didn't enjoy the role at Collingwood which is why he took time off/left.

Also remember Carlton tried to poach him a number of years ago which Hawthorn blocked as it was a sideways move instead of up so they were allowed to. I imagine a CEO role would be what he's looking for next however if they don't choose him for the gig, he'd be fantastic.

He's banged up physically as well as mentally

The ABC is trash.. full of lefty woke trash
As soon as I see someone use “woke” in their whinge of the day I just assume they’re not really sure what it is they’re whinging about.
A few years back it would’ve been all about “halal certification”.
F***ing mind numbing.

Geelong wasn't risking the $$, the list profile, the length of contract or the direction of a hard earned rebuild. They simply placed a cheap bet... and they won. Lucky I'd say. They'd probably disagree but it's a moot point now.

No so for us taking on Oliver. Much, much greater risk. Too much to lose IMO.
Yes I agree the risk of Stengle doesn't match the risk of Oliver but there is nothing certain about next year's draft either (or any for that matter).

I dont know. I think if there was a chance to do the deal I'd do it...but it sounds like Geelong are the only ones in the race anymore and we won't give up Pick 4 to win that race so I suppose we move on

Surely

GWS would be pushing for him to choose them by tonight
I doubt he goes into a group event like a BnF without being locked into a decision.

I suspect its made, its now just about timing! Wouldn't be surprised if GWS know either way as well. Either they'll announce it at the event, or they don't want it to bring down the mood of the event by piling onto the player exodus narrative

People who think Tony Armstrong only got his media job because of his race are the same people who probably think Will Goodings got his media job because he's a great newsreader.

I've previously been in favour of the risk of Oliver. But that was last year when the previous big fish watch was happening. Not now though. Oliver has been completely poor all year. Not motivated. Not fit. Not happy. And apparently, without mates. I have the gut feel he's damaged goods and not likely to get back (anywhere near) to his previous output.

I also value the character of some of the people at Melbourne who would have already tried to turn him around. Gawn, Petracca, Viney, even ANB is well regarded as a positive influence. Far out, even Jake Lever would have been useful. But we can all see the Melbourne bin fire burning strongly. I note he's the only one they're shopping around. Others like Petracca and ANB want out.

A complete change of atmosphere might help, as might a renewed friendship group but...man it's hard to see it coming off.

Wasnt Oliver living with Gawn's family this year?

Going by the posters on here who talk about DEI , they probably never thought about Wills job, he's white.
