This year's and next years 1st from CARL, achieves those objectives .....otherwise keep Houston, miss the 1st round this year, and use next years F1 for Luko

PORT are still OK in that scenario .....next years Draft, expected to be down on this year .....I don't expect PORT to fold for this years CARL pick only
If Houston nominates Carlton, then Port are restricted to dealing with Carlton.

Port need to get the trade done, and Carlton know that Port keeping Houston is not a viable option, so Carlton have the whip hand here. Port put themselves in this predicament, so nobody should have any sympathy for them.

Carlton are seemingly showing little interest in offering up pick #12, so it's quite possible that the best Port can get is Carlton's 2025 1st.

That may, or may not, be enough to satisfy GC when trading for Luko. Then again, GC's Luko position is exactly the same as Port's Houston position - so they may just have to suck the poopsickle, just like Port will.

The most likely scenario is that Port get Luko, but don't get back into the 2024 1st round. Carlton get Houston, for the price they're willing to pay. GC get Luko off their books, but don't get as much as they're hoping for in return.

Good:

  • Davis comes to the club in a role that is befitting of his experience
  • Davis has premiership club experience, which is extremely valuable to us because we lack that, and he's in a position to assist our other coaches who lack premiership experience

Bad:

  • Made up a role for Davis because we didn't want to demote Burns from senior assistant and hurt his feelings, even though his role description is that of a "senior assistant"
  • Creating a "Coaching Director" position for someone whose role isn't to direct the entire coaching department means we now won't hire someone who will do that. The hope of getting two new roles (coaching director and a senior assistant) is dashed and now seems to be just the one hire.
  • Still no person at the club above Nicks with football experience to provide oversight
  • Godden somehow gets promoted and demoted at the same time?
Is Scott Burns still 'Senior Assistant'?

But you need to take into account the actual number of posters making that noise. I recall a huge hullabaloo with Doedee over Burton, but when you looked closer, it was Marty and Cleric posting over and over and over again, filling pages with anti-Dood sentiment. I doubt many posters had negative views, although, I think with Danger there would have been more reservations posted, given the rare event that came with him where he wasn't coming over to play in his first year.
yes man, agreed overall. the 'vocal minority' often takes over as we all know. and i also think you are correct re Danger being more a widely held view as (1) staying in VIC for yr 12 as you say, (2) passing up the chance to draft (probably)
the most famous surname in SA footy

For a laugh...so many previous posters cancelled or suspended but some old faves here. STO very reasonable here unlike many others.

If 10 mins and want a laugh whilst awaiting official announcements, here is one of the classics

- first post by the controversial fightingdreamer99 - Those of you bitching about the Dangerfield pick need to grow the **** up. You have no idea how this kid is going to develop, you have no idea how Ebert is going to develop for that matter. Stop putting the AFC down for everything they do when you don't have a time machine yourselves; if Dangerfield becomes a superstar you'll look like ****wits, and I hope he does because you need it to be stuck up ya.

- next post - Seriously man shut up, we have every right to be anxious about passing on a player who could have played 5-10 next year, and will odds on be a gun, who was local, and available at our pick for a kid who WONT EVEN BE IN THE STATE NEXT YEAR. Seriously man, no wonder you shit every one off

- looking at past comments on dangerfield it seems he is a specialist back pocket/tagger.. i hope there is more to his game then this.

- from the famous Stiffy_18 (up there with his 'if Gibbs could grow another couple of inches he could be the CHF we all desperately desire' when we all assumed he was coming to us as a F/S before the Roach ****** things up for us) - Nothing like Judd. He is much closer to Mattner than he is to Judd.

- Rodney Safetyoval may well be a great player for us, andI hope he is but its my personal opinion that there were better players there who could actually be at our club next season

- and the most on point...fentanyl said: yeah, so when he hits his peak he'll nick off back home to vic.

Fun reading but I couldnt find the original draft thread where people were going completely off the deep end

EDIT - the original and the best

Oh I agree, Port have brought this on themselves .....and I expect them to have real problems with their list

My POV though is ....if PORT were to accept #13 from CARL .....that means:

1. Houston is swapped for the uncertainty of Pick 14 (father/son)

2. Using a F1 for Lukosius (2nd back) .....leaves them out of next years Draft 1st round

For a team in the supposed Window, point (1) is not a good outcome .....I can see Port missing the Finals

Will be interesting if they are on the hunt for a big key forward during this trade period.
I have a feeling the KPF market it about to explode. With it being a midfielders draft this year, the teams that are needy now will likely be banging down the door this time next year.

Tex might even get another go around with a contender.

Port tend to get creative if they want something. Look at what GC have pick wise and then look at Carlton.

I could see an end scenario where Houston gets to Carlton and Lukosius to Port something like this

Port
in: Lukosius + pick 12 + pick 20
Out: Houston + Port F1

Carlton
in: Houston + Port F1
Out pick 11 + Carlton F1

GC
in: Pick 11 + Carton F1
Out: Lukosius + pick 12 + pick 20

Sorry, where does it say Burns is the Senior Assistant ? .....I can only see, he's the FWD's Coach

The Club doesn't need to broadcast from the rafters about Burns demotion ......just let it slide thru, and go softly softly.

Protect Burns feelings externally

And of all their injuries, none are key forwards.

Maybe we can dupe someone into giving us a pick for Gollant.
