And how do you know that we "could have paid out a couple of players"? This is a huge assumption.

"Paying out" a player means that their 2025 contract (and any future years) needs to be included in our 2024 salary cap - which has already been (mostly) spent. I sincerely doubt we have enough room remaining in our 2024 salary cap to pay out more than 1 player, and even then, that player would probably need to be towards the lower end of the salary scale.

Think everyone forgot Sloane was in our 2024 salary cap and probably $750k+.

Ummm I really like Rory Atkins and I do think he is cream on a cake type player and in 2020 cream on the cake wasn't what we needed, I reckon he's a great option for Port, he knows how to find the footy and is a good kick, yeah he can be soft at times, but port have enough tough blokes around to counter the difference.
I'm not sure he's ever going to be even that for a top team. Granted I've barely seen him play since he left us, but for us I remember him trying about 200 fend offs and successfully executing about 5 of them.

His lasting memory for me will be in the 2017 GF when we were humming, you can virtually pin point him taking advantage from a Tex free kick and getting tackled immediately as the first momentum shift that actually allowed Richmond a look in.

2.1 to 0.3, Tex wins a free in the middle of the ground and has a chance to power forward again, Rat takes advantage and gets tackled immediately, HTB. Ball instantly goes forward for a Richmond goal, and is followed within minutes by another and all of a sudden, instead of being up 3 goals to 0, we're behind and they're settled.

His confidence was sky high, which was often his downfall because he thought he could do more than he was actually capable of.

Nicely skilled at times, and I feel bad ragging on him because he really seems like a great guy and he was always a hoot to follow on social media. But there's a fine line between being the "cream" on top of a good team, and being the weak link in a good team. I'd have loved to see him taste success at GC, but not so much at Port.

Very fair comments.

They lose a rebounding Half back flanker. Historically this is one of the easiest positions to fill.

They gain a top 3 draft pick who kicked 39 goals in a shit side as a 22 year old. Is it enough to bridge the gap of their massive finals losses - who knows - but they need to give it a red hot go as they are in the window.

I agree, I never thought Houston was worth as much as they wanted.

Port in: Luko, Richards, Atkins, 13, 29, F3
Port out: Houston, F1

Coll in: Houston
Coll out: F1, Richards, Noble

GC in: F1, F1, Noble
GC out: 13, 29, Luko, Atkins, F3

If you ask me, every team does pretty well for what they need

But Port actively wanting Rat is still hilarious
Is that the actuall deal?.. is that comfirmed?

Cause holy shite that is bad for port.

Lose one of their best players.. top 3 atleast..

Lose their F1

Gain pick 13.. two speculator picks and Luko (who couldnt even make the Suns best 22 at the end of the year), some Richards lad thats done nothing and Rory fxxkn Atkins!.. taking on rory’s salary and Luko’s massive overpaid salary..

That’s diabolically bad.

Please tell me thats true..

I keep refreshing hoping they hurry up and lodge it before they see the blowback they will get from their supporter base. Just get it done before cold feet come calling

Yeah, but if they manage to offload Soldo, the only player with GF experience on their list will be Rory Atkins.

Yeah

Also looks a bit like he might be a lot keener to leave than what's been portrayed in the media to date

Probably a mistake made by Davies claiming they'd only consider a deal that included 2 x first round picks for him. They've created an expectation that simply won't be matched and their fans are now busy throwing the toys out of the cot

Rioli and Finlayson too

Don't spoil my narrative...
Well, Rioli doesn't play in big games.
And Finlayson was nothing more than a benchwarmer that day.

So Atkins would be their best known commodity come Grand Final Day.

Taking a solitary pick into what's looking like a strong draft depth wise is perplexing. Three good players in but handicapping ourselves with several contracted players whose ceiling is 'decent' level sanfl player is not ideal for a team that finished 15th.
Hard to argue with this. We should be trading someone with round 2 value to hedge our bets
