Roo mentioned on radio this morning that a coaching director announcement will be made in a couple of days

I'm not really sure who this is going to be. You really need to have been a Senior Coach to fill this role.

Dew's lack of sucess kind of means that doesn't work and it sounds like he is going to Port.

I guess it depends on what is wanted from the role. It can be a consultant type role or a hands on coaching the coaches type.

It does not seem to be a coincidence that the Giants offering an extra year for Peatling is leaked the morning of their B&F day, certainly feels like he will stay now. I guess it just depends if there is a club offering 5 years (which Twomey has hinted at before) and whether that is enough of a difference to get him out.

Getting a deal done for Peatling would be difficult. If a club offers five years and good money you can't expect an easy trade. Different to a free agent.

It’s been couple years since his best, we said the same about Wayne Carey

Oliver just turned 27 and played 21 games in 2024.

Carey was 32 when he came to the club and didnt play a single game the year before he came to our club.

GWS upped their offer to 4. Maybe if we're offering 5 with a hefty front end / bonus in 2025 when we (presumably??) have the cap space to do it, might be enough?

And with some serious off-field issues

He’s been a key reason why Melb’s culture has completely disrupted and has dis-stabilised

Is it worth the risk having Oliver amongst our young group ?

Couldn't be as bad as our group being subjected to Nicks who clearly has no f.kn clue what he's doing.

If we are going to announce football director role this week, one can only speculate that we have made progress on Wright ?

Someone can confirm but I think Roo said Coaching Director? That wouldn't be Wright? I am sure he would need to be involved with list management and recruiting?

Its only over priced in hindsight.

Gibbs in the 2017 team? Who knows what would have happened.

But we will ever make ourselves feel better by saying we 'walked away'
We made a grand final without him in 2017, and we lost that grand final by 8 goals. Even if he was in Brownlow medal form that year, he wouldn't have made us an 8 goal better side on grand final day.

Offer 6 years and the opportunity for more midfield time and just get it done

He’s a mid on the rise - there is a reason why there is a host of clubs chasing him

That's probably our best shot with him - as stacked as our midfield is (right, Nicksy?), theirs is much more so. Tell him to look at the names ahead of him for midfield time at GWS, then look at the names on our list and ask him which ones he reckons he has a better chance of pushing in front of.

My inclination is to burn cap space (because we get nothing for going under the cap) rather than contract years . But overall agree he suits a need for us and should really shake Laird out of the middle.

Would rather that that a proven risk later on in his career on a HUGE contract.

But then, some of us think logically I suppose.

Says the bloke who rates players performances by AFL fantasy points.

1,000 posts in 2weeks and majority of it is trash. You a gr0tto burner account?

Thats the way that grand finals roll though..... We were only down 9 points at half time.

Momentum is a hell of a thing in Grand Finals (look no further than the 2021 Grand Final - history will look at that as a complete blowout, but it was anything but for the first 3/4).

He doesn’t have to make us 8 goals better.
If he made us 2 goals better in the fist half the result could have been mightily different
