I could understand if they split to draft 2 players given how deep this draft is, plus if they were able to extract more, but for Baker? Nah.
Interesting side story where the new west coast list manager is the recruiting manager who helped build Richmond’s premiership era with picks like baker bolton etc

Definitely some part to it

I think this it the forgotten aspect of the trade, the Blues have given up their F1.

Given its Carlton too, they are very capable of f**king up their season and finishing outside the 8.
Compromised draft next year, so there’s a decent likelihood their F1 is outside the top 10 again

So Carlton have effectively given up Pick 12, a 2025/1, a 2025/2 and Owies for Pick 3? In an even draft?
That’s what I think. 2 x 1sts, 1 x 2nd and a 33 goal small forward for FOS is a very high price. He’d want to be bloody good, and if WC end up with Lindsay or Travaglia, Baker (who is criminally undervalued here) and Owies, then history might well show it as a smart trade.

Wait. Where did the future picks come into it? Different trades?

Few SOS at Carlton vibes

So we have the ex-Richmond people at GC and WC overvaluing Richmond players and pooring draft picks into Richmond.

Strange.

Yeah I agree. Funnily enough, I don't particularly like this deal for either Carlton or WCE. Imo the only clear winners are Richmond: Baker is good, but 14 in this draft is a very valuable pick.

Well, from now on, anyone saying that a couple of mid 1sts would never get you a top 3 pick need only be referred back to this trade
Or clear evidence of how stupid of an idea it is when pick 3 goes on to be a multi AA, bets and fairest level midfielder playing 300 games, and picks 12 and 14 end up playing 150 games, no AA, average to good players.

Carlton essentially Playstationed this trade period.

If you told me 1 month ago that Carlton would be picking ahead of us without trading out anyone of significance... I would have laughed you out the building.
What are Port going to take for Houston now. Surely NM won't give up 2 or surely Houston won't go to them.

Big Footy mentioned as why Port Board poo pooed the deal haha

Trade Radio just said it after Board members probably read the Big Footy feedback and scrapped the deal

Classic
Their clubs board have obviously missed the 119 versions of Sack Hinkley threads then. :)
