I remember being hyped when we drafted McHenry and that turned out really great. I don't go crazy for draftees anymore. I wait until they prove themselves to be AFL players before I get on the hype train.
Absolutely!

I do the same... wait till they play at AFL level & can then usually make a quick call with the likes of Michaelanny & Soligo that they will be good long term players.

To be fair, we have plenty of "ruck-capable" players on our list. O'Brien, Strachan, Thilthorpe, T. Murray, Burgess, and Butts (if we're counting him) is plenty. I don't think it would be good list management to have enough ruck cover to deal with injuries to your three lead ruck options. If it happens, you either just weather the storm until one of them returns, or if they're all out long-term you get one in the midseason draft.

Our problem isn't the lack of ruck options... it's that most of them are either not good, not good yet, or players that you would really prefer to be playing elsewhere.

Thilthorpe should be used very sparingly in the ruck.

You don’t take a Ferrari 4WDing.

Imo, Thilthorpe's biggest issue is landing after flying for a mark.

Needs to be working on better landings as a priority.

Having said that, we need to develop other ruck options too, like Toby Murray & perhaps another tall.

Say it's 4 years.

Michalanney. 25 y.o. 120 odd games.
Sid Draper. 22 y.o. 80 odd games.
Fogarty. 29 y.o. 180 odd games.
Rachele. 26 y.o. 140 odd games.
Thilthorpe. 27 y.o. 130 odd games.
Dyson Sharp 21yo 60 odd games

100%. Our ruck stocks are laughably thin.

ROB - Bog average

Thilthorpe - suspect knees - should not be used in the ruck at all

Strachan - injured and incapable

T Murray - a LONG way from being AFL ready. Very raw still.

Burgess - utterly hopeless in the ruck. Might as well ruck Murphy if he's the option.

Murray - 12 months on from an ACL, absolutely should not be used in the ruck

Borlase - an undersized battler. Tries hard but gets monstered when it matters.

We genuinely don't have an option if ROB goes down.

It's an unbelievable failure of list management. We've had years to plan and did nothing.

Ormond-Allen?
Its not as crazy as it sounds

You should be getting 100% support from the ''rucks dont matter '' crowd

Imagine Dawson going up and getting the ball back from Crouch who feeds it out to him

Not Dawson, but I am kinda interested in the "we're not going to play a specialist ruck" and actually play another tall midfielder - or KPP position player who can be a threat. I wonder if they will let them have a bit of a run-up at stoppages.

I read something saying Worrell played ruck in school footy

How about the taller version in Curtin?
