We did neither/both

If we were ruthless, they weren't ever on our list.

Instead we were sentimental with giving them a rookie spot, they got treated like the inevitable delistee they were while they were here, and we ruthlessly cut them pretty much straight away.

Managed to get the worst of both worlds.
It was a delicate situation, we extended a favour to distinguished ex-players and only gave up spots on the rookie list. Edwards and McLeod getting their noses out of joint is unfortunate but the club handled the situation fine.

For whatever it's worth, I interpret dissatisfaction with the professionalism of senior players to mean both on-field performances and also stuff like Laird's comments about the Rachele thing. If so, then I think it being called out is good.
Its training... they're referring to it is laughable. No intensity, too much mucking around. Its not professional theyre right. I had more time this year so could be in adelaide more and go and it was frightening.

More frightening is the players stuck straining in the Bs. for anyone who has watched that its like watching auskick train....

There's zero evidence it's got anything to do with training.

This sounds like bulltish to me.

Care to comment bigman

I don't think the club IS doing anything, it's just speculation. In the EPL for example, the D of F is a common role as link between the board and manager / head coach. I don't know that any AFL club has a position titled D of F, it's Head of Football or similar.

I think a D of F, if a club decided to create / style such a role, would be in place of the H of F (Kelly), not above it.
So the club is creating a new "more" important position than Head of Football that is above Kelly and at the same time makes his role obsolete?

Is this an admission from the club that Kelly isn't right person for the Head of Football role. And Nicks needs someone to hold his hand?

If the club put Roo into this paid role, with his board time coming to an end, we may as well close the club.
Lol .. we're getting to the bottom of this new "Director of Football" role now

Olsen mentioned when he pushed through limiting directors term lengths that he'd was working on finding a solution to keeping Roo in a "hands on role" at the club

Fvcking club is trolling us again .. hahahaha

It's no wonder no-one from the club reached out to chat to Neil Balme .. hahahaha

We're fvcked

An absolute sh*tshow

go and have a look
how many times did you see them train this year?
Not once but bigman went to numerous training sessions and never, ever mentioned anything like that.

So I again call bulltish.

well having seen quite a few trainings over 30 years I wouldn't say this was anywhere near the level I have seen from other squads in other periods. sorry but its honest opinion.
im talking match play, skills work etc and as i said the Bs is horrendous from the two sessions of that i saw this year.

bigman gives awesome reports i too would like to hear if he thinks the intensity is AFL standard compared to the top melb clubs

Someone with some independence and gravitas and experience and good judgement and will to fix things would be fine, if they had the authority and the backing to get things done.

We’ll probably squib it and just promote Burns to the role.
'Luckily the best person for the job was already at the club'

It was no more delicate than it was with Stefan Jarman

The error was with our talent assessment early. We wedged ourselves in

How have we handled it fine? Drafted players who weren't any good.

My feeling is that the coaches and recruiters didn't want them on the list from the beginning and that they were treated as such.

What specific role is this "Director of Football" that's being floated around?

Isn't Rucciuto referred to as the director of football? Or is he just the director who knows about football?
I am wondering if we have created that role specialising for Montgomery. It has been reported he may be keen to come, and it sounds like the other coaches are not going anywhere. So by creating this new role they have a position for him.
