2 first gamers as openers in a important test like the Boxing Day test to risky.

Na wouldn’t do it then just Konstas- Hunt to replace Khawaja, I’d put McSweeney in the side but at 6.

But need a experienced opener to bat with the debutante.Marcus Harris is the only opener out there with runs on the board who you would consider and I have reservations about him as well ,similar to your self.

I have Khawaja still playing till next summer that’s plenty of time to find that other opener. Next tour is SL and Khawaja plundered runs against Pakistan when it turned, I highly doubt unless he retires that he won’t be there

Will turn square from ball 1
I wouldn’t be surprised.

But I also remember it being an Autobahn on occasion.

Sri Lanka aren’t the worst side going around at the moment either. It’ll be interesting.

Apparently we can buy membership to the Galle Cricket club for some ludicrously low figure, which sounds like a bit of a lark too.

Jadeja passed ashwin a few years ago. Plus he has more tools than ashwin, he’s their best fielder and a dangerous lower order bat
Do you reckon? Different bowlers, not sure Jadeja is as dangerous with the ball in Australia

rashwin will bowl 100 overs in an innings if he needs to for india to win. i don't think i can see jadeja doing that.

lol, mate it didn’t turn.

The only bowlers in that series who had an average under 40 were Cummins, Starc, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Swepson took 2-266
Sajid Khan that just destroyed England in consecutive tests averaged 119.

Even Lyon who doesn’t actually need turn so much as he just needs some bounce and a bit of scoreboard pressure averaged 45.

Khawaja actually did well in India previously so has had his moments when it HAS spun, but he’s also struggled badly in Sri Lanka too so he’s not totally a lock-in commodity in those conditions.

At any rate, the last series in Pakistan wouldn’t be what I’m hanging my hat on

I just discovered something pretty interesting about Galle as a Test Venue.

It has hosted Tests in every month of the year barring May.

And it missed May by 2 days once, and 3 days another time.

I wonder if any other ground can claim that, or beat it?

Edit, same result SSG Colombo.😁

Next test you have Khawja as a opener partnered by Hunt or Konstas and Mc Sweeney at 6.So who do you have batting 3,4 and 5 and a big question mark now about Head,s injury.

Same 3-4-5 as this test. I’m still half backing Lab to come good he’s testing my patience though. Smith is at 4, Head is fine just a precaution

Lyon's record in Sydney is quite poor. Averages almost 40, only have two 5fas in his 13 tests there, both in the same match (five years ago).

Its usually pretty flat with big 1st innings totals..You need a spinner to tie up one end while the quicks rotate from the other end..especially if you only play 4 genuine bowlers

Lyon's workload will be bigger than the first 3 tests

Jadeja is much more than a dangerous lower order bat...Genuine allrounder who can bat in the top 6 if required.

Because that's never wrong.

I get the value of local knowledge, but the cricketers in question aren't locals.

It's a massive risk that could absolutely have gone up in their faces. Indians could absolutely got 270 off more than 50 overs.
Yes, they could have got the runs but it was always going to rain. I went to the game yesterday andwas at my wife’s appartment 2kms away until mid morning. I drove back to Toowoomba where I got smashed with rain. The radar was crazy with rain heading straight towards Brisbane. Probably would’ve been a 150km wide rain band.

Now the dust has settled I think we can walk away pretty satisfied overall. Batsman made runs, bowlers performed well again for the most part, overall we outplayed India.

We did lots wrong which all came out day 4 but in the end nothing would have changed the result (IMO), so we take away some free lessons.

Hazelwood, whatever happened there. We got a capable reserve bowler, use him unless 100%.

Marsh, I’m not a hater but if he’s not bowling I’m not sure he brings much value. I think McSweeney is worth investing in at 6.

I’m not convinced on Pat’s captaincy especially when the pressure in on (hello England). I’ve said it before, he’s probably the best option but things need to change when we come under attack.

I think that there are a number of Sheffield Shield players right now who may warrant some serious consideration ASAP. The first guy - apart from Sam Konstas - who I would look at is the top run scorer on the Sheffield Shield with 537 runs as of today (December 18) & he has an average so far over this Shield season of 44.75. He is Henry Hunt who is the opening batsman for South Australia. On the flip side, Sam Konstas has scored 471 runs with an average of 58.87. OK. So obviously he must come under consideration sooner rather than later given that he is also an opener. As for Marcus Harris has accumulated 445 runs so far in the Shield this season with an average of 49.4. Anyway these are 3 opening batsmen could not do any worse than the current incumbents (as well as Labuschagne). Finally, I think that we need to invest in aome younger players & so I do not see any future for Khawaja at 38 & will be 39 this time next year when the Ashes would have already started. Goodnight & good luck.

Sydney at six f$$k off he was picked as an opener .. this talk of moving him down the order because he is failing is crap

We either back him as an opener or pick another opener
I’m in the back him camp, but wouldn’t be against him at 4. Opener or 4.

Problem is 4&5 are set in Smith and Head. Now not against Lab being dropped after this test though if he fails twice, I’m on the fence on this though as half my eye is towards SL and he must be in the side at 3 in that series he’s one of our better players in the top order against spin
